  1. I know. Those are the worst! That's my second Buxton walk-off HR game of the year!
  2. More or less, yes. I think they built a staff pretty reliant on young arms stepping up. That's a big reason why before the season started, I was saying that how far this team goes will be determined by the youth. And there is obvious risk involved with that approach. And I think I've been right about that so far. And I think injuries have depleted the possibility of that approach working even further. I've always kinda thought this year was intended to build towards next season. They did a decent job of avoiding a bottoming out, but not enough to really be truly competitive.
  3. I think injury has played into this quite a bit. Winder made the roster as a piggy back for Archer. Injuries to the rotation forced him into the rotation until he too was put on the IL. Beyond that however, you might be correct.
  4. The Twins are just toying with them like a cat does for a mouse. Got 'em right where they want them! Peter Gammons name dropping PJ was a nice touch! ?
  5. They went 17-10 in June. That's a run, especially when the twins went 13-14 in the same stretch. I agree that Chicago is a threat, but they've got quite a bit of work to do.
  6. Or Thornburg...either day! We seem to be at an impasse!
  7. I will say that it's very clear to me today! It's clear that it would have made no difference. And if it did, Rocco probably played it correctly, sadly.
  8. His name is definitely Tyler Thornburg. That's about all I can say.
  9. I don't think the FO figured that they'd be as competitive as they are in the division at the start of the season. Or that the division would be as brutal as it has been so far. The Correa signing flies in the face some, but the pitching staff was not a competitive compilation by any means. I think they've gotten quite lucky with the starters to this point. Injuries have depleted the relief corps, but that's not the whole reason that it sucks. I still don't mind the trade, but acknowledge the risk involved with it. I had figured that they'd be able to supplement the bullpen better than they have. I also hoped that they had something else up their sleeve like when dealing Donaldson to free up cash for Correa. They may have, but it didn't materialize if they did. The offseason approach looks to me as one of a team trying to retool for the next season, making moves to avoid completely bottoming out yet not quite real. I think that stance is still accurate. They're good enough to win the division, but little else. I'm not sure that Rogers moves that needle at all, frankly. But they could certainly use him.
  10. Yeah. Molitor had a couple of guys like that too. It drove me nuts then too. Bullpen usage has evolved even in that short timeframe, but that only makes it worse.
  11. If this is the case, I hope it brings some consistency with it. It's great to see the younger players blossoming, but young players aren't typically known for being consistent. Simply being more consistent would likely help this team out quite a bit.
  12. I'm not really upset about it either. I won't say that I expected it, but when I heard what the available relief corps was, I kinda saw it coming.
  13. If a manager essentially refuses to use a reliever unless forced to, then that reliever shouldn't be on the roster. Today's bullpen usage doesn't allow for that. And it's pretty clear why Thornburg was a last resort.
  14. Correct. Every team blows leads. In the end, I still don't think Cleveland's run will be sustained, but they can certainly do some damage while they're on it.
  15. Grasping defeat from the clutches of victory 3 times in a 5 game set is rather disheartening, to say the least. Hell, grasping a losing series from the clutches of a sweep is even worse. Gotta do something about the pen.
  16. So, how 'bout that bullpen?!

  17. @Irishmansays that he's done with the Twins on nearly a daily basis it seems, yet he keeps coming back! Misery loves company.
  18. And the comment that you initially replied to was about the whole season. I'm not even disagreeing with you about today's game, but that wasn't even the point I was making with my initial post. And that point is still valid because it's been a problem all season long. It's not relegated to just today. Which is my point.
  19. That's been a problem all season too. The bullpen struggles have overshadowed the offensive struggles. They're both a pretty big problem. Bullpen is a bigger one though.
