  1. For the life of me, I don't understand why I willingly clicked and watched that link.
  2. That's why the correct answer to that scenario wouldn't involve Nunez at all. Polanco plays 2B.
  3. He's a very nice sell high candidate, but you don't need to give him away. It would be nice to free up PT for Polanco, but like mazeville stated above, it would be nice if he could get slotted in somewhere regularly.
  4. I was thinking the same thing. Good to see JRM starting to find some life at the plate and not just behind it.
  5. Incidentally, the Mets acquired Kelly Johnson today. That probably lessens their desire for a trade for a 3B a bit even if Johnson is a utility guy.
  6. I agree and it's about time the team figures out what he can do at the MLB level since they've exhausted his option years without already figuring that out.
  7. Agreed. Many of the moves that they have made would be reasonable if the team were competitive and being in the thick of relevancy. Obviously, that is not the scenario so they make little to no sense. Aside from being forced to due to injury, Buxton would be the most notable exception of a prospect being called up and actually playing. This team is in a position where the notion of prospects coming up and playing every day should be the norm, not to exception.
  8. I'm right there with you, even with the statement that they won't have a choice but to make a change. I'm just not sure it'll happen.
  9. Kepler is only playing everyday due to injury as well. He rarely played when he was first up. Buxton came back up earlier than probably anticipated because of injury. It's good that they're actually playing, but the FO's hand was forced.
  10. I wish that I had your optimism that a move will actually be made.
  11. Good read. Like others have touched on, I'm worried that the necessary changes won't be made. A failure of this nature has to result in changes, but this team isn't one to make those decisions.
  12. Agreed. It's okay to make a mistake, it happens. What you can't do is continue to compound the mistake by doing absolutely nothing to fix it.
  13. Agreed. Polhad's comment is a very stark contrast from that of the Padres owner, whose team just unloaded their key offseason pitching acquisition. We'll see if there are more moves made from the Padres, but they've already shown more of a willingness to change what ails them than the Twins have. You can't publicly state that it was a "total system failure" and then do virtually nothing about it and be taken seriously.
  14. Since the flurry of moves that came around the time of that comment, no other moves of substance have taken place. There was no wholesale movement to improve the team. If it weren't for injuries, the likes of Buxton and Kepler might still be in AAA. So not only have they not learned a thing, they've done very little in the way of trying to overcome what got them there in the first place.
  15. Rosario earned the demotion, that's why he's in AAA. Arcia didn't earn the privilege to play more when he was playing more. That's why Grossman is playing. For the bullpen, you're asking the same questions everyone else has for some time.
  16. I agree with your last statement. I like Plouffe quite a bit, always have. I respect what he's turned himself into despite early struggles at the MLB level. I'm happy for guys like that. It will suck to see him moved. That being said, it's (past) time to move him. Most of the reasons for it aren't even his fault. Moving him solves so many problems, relieves logjams, and makes the managers job so much easier that holding onto him at all makes absolutely no sense.
  17. I agree with pretty much everything you said, but I do think that both approaches were similar. It's just that the Royals were able to actually execute it properly and have the results to show for it. Most FA moves the Twins make are disasters or aging vets that are on their last legs. Big money deals the Royals made worked out for them, they haven't for the Twins. That's the biggest difference IMHO.
  18. And the food...man the food is good. And what a variety of said food and local beer!
  19. Agreed. It was fun while it lasted, but expectations definitely needed to be tempered coming into this year. I believe that I had them at around 75 wins but hoped that they'd hang around .500. Even that seems to be overly optimistic.
  20. I really like Plouffe and hate to see him go, but I've been advocating a trade since the trade deadline last year. That was solely to get Sano in the lineup with a set position, as he's clearly in the franchise's future. I've always hated the move to RF for multiple reasons. One of them is the logjam it created in the outfield, as you've touched on.
  21. This. Straightening out the logjams that exist on this team should be the priority. Guys like Plouffe and Nunez are blocking prospects or forcing them to play out of position. Maximizing the value of those players is secondary, but important. My only concern is that TR makes moves that end up creating other logjams in the process like the Park signing. Even though I think that signing has potential to be a good one, it just created more problems for Moli to put a lineup together. The pieces of the puzzle need to fit together better than they currently do.
  22. Last year was the worst thing that could have happened to this team, IMO. It led to complacency in the FO and overhype from the fan base. I did provide some hope that things were turning around, but I think many fans worried that they caught lightning in a bottle and still needed to make some changes to actually improve the team. Losing 90 games in 6 of 7 seasons would result in mass shakeups in every FO in any professional sports team anywhere else. Will a 100+ loss season result in anything different?
  23. My only real change to that would be to call Kepler up. I know he's hurt now, but I would have given him a chance anyway. He was trending in the right direction and didn't get a real opportunity while he was with the big club. If Vargas wasn't blocked by two guys, I'd add him to that list too but I don't know how to use him.
  24. My only real rebuttal to your points is to give the kids they do call up an actual opportunity. Don't sit them on the bench rotting. Actually play them. Every day. Buxton is the only one that got a real opportunity in my view. If they struggle, they struggle. They at least get a taste. They figure out what it takes to be a MLB player.
