  1. I'm going to write the final act for Joe Mauer. 1. Joe signs for one more year and says he'll retire at the end of 2019 2. Joe plays some back up at 1B, DH and pinch hitter 3. Joe pinch hits in game 7 of the World Series next year and drives in the winning run. Fun to think about...
  2. I liked Riverbrian's response to this thread topic. However, I would like to suggest another idea. The real fear is that extra year of service time and he becomes good or great... Why not just sign him to a long term extension now? The Twins should take a flyer and just do it. There are risks to both parties in this scenario but I bet the Twins can get a better deal now than later. If you think this kid is going to be a great or even an above average player this is a no brainer.
  3. If Buxton and Sano were playing like they have always been projected, yes I would make the trade. Since the core 4 is now 2 at the moment I think it's better to keep the young talent in the organization.
  4. Thanks for the game recap. Couple of thoughts as I was at the game: 1. Saw Patrick Reusse at Murphy's bar before the game. He was walking around and saying hello to all the Twins fans. He was fun to speak with. His shirt was soaked with sweat... 2. It was so hot today at the game I think I lost 25 pounds in water weight. Maybe had 10 beers and never had to visit the restroom (I know TMI). 3. Sat behind home plate and it looked like the Ump had a hard time finding the strike zone (including Jose). 4. We lost and we still had a great time at Wrigley. The Cub fans are nice people. Best regards, Twinssporto reporting from Wrigley Field
  5. Great article. Thank you for articulating what I have been thinking and posting comments about for the last year or so (sometimes at my own peril)... I like the approach the Twins are taking with him right now. As Brian said above, he could probably use a good life coach or mentor. I think most of this is mental. Sano seems to be a smart guy and has a natural talent for baseball in general. I loved to watch him work the pitchers two years ago. His confidence has obviously been shaken. Time to find his groove again.
  6. This is on Sano. Its not the F.O. Agree some of this is under their watch but most of its injury related issues. I'm not an apologist for the F.O. but after Polanco decided to take PED's, Mauer got a concussion, Buxton broke a toe, Sano pulled his hammy (his only excuse), Castro blew out his knee cap and Santana had finger surgery....things went down hill. Oh, Dozier isn't hitting either. When it rains it pours.
  7. This offense should be like rolling thunder right now. However, nothing seems to click. I think the biggest culprit right now has been injuries. Buxton has missed a lot of time, Sano has missed a lot of time, Mauer is out and Polanco is detoxing. The things we've seen so far this year from Rosario is what I would expect him to do. Same with Kepler. Escobar picked up right where he left off last year taking over for Sano and is playing as expected. When over 1/3 of your lineup is out, injured, detoxing or out of practice you're going to see inconsistent play. I think missing Castro behind the plate also hurts the team. Unfortunately, this seems to be the theme for the 2018 squad.
  8. By the way, sat next to Dan Gladden Wednesday night at Ike's in Minnetonka. He was very nice. There were some little league kids in there with their baseball uniforms on and they came up to him and said hi. He chatted with them for 5-10 minutes then went over and spoke with their dad/coach. It was fun to watch. He was giving the kids some pointers and teasing them that their uniforms weren't dirty enough.
  9. I did hear a report on WCCO today that Minnesota and Wisconsin were at war with each other. The reporter mentioned that some individuals on the Wisconsin side were lobbing grenades over the boarder into Minnesota. The Minnesotans were throwing them back with the pins removed.
  10. As I said in my post, I hope I'm wrong about Sano......I do agree that when Sano is playing he's probably two million times the hitter Buxton is. However, it will be interesting to see how durable Sano (and Buxton for that matter) is this year and what type of production he ends up with. I'm cautiously optimistic.
  11. I would continue to let Buxton play. His bat will come around and his defense is too important to waste in AAA. I would love to see us bring up Flash Gordon. That might provide a real spark. Regarding Sano, I hope I'm wrong but I don't think Sano has the durability to be a huge factor on this team this year. We can pray for a Sano storm but I think the production will be choppy and inconsistent. A ton of strikeouts then some massive homers, slump, homer, strikeout...
  12. He's overthrowing. He knows he's got a one year contract and wants to be lights out in order to get a 4/80 contract next year in free agency. He'll settle down soon.
  13. I think some of these rehab assignments are ridiculous. I can understand missing well over a month of baseball games but for a guy out 10 days even three weeks, get him back in the game. We are starting to see more players coming off the DL and going right back to work with their major league team. Buxton is unusual in the fact his defensive skills are so much better than an average outfielder. I'd rather see him playing right away than sitting in AAA. I can't stomach another game with Grossman patrolling the outfield.
  14. I love reverse psychology! You saved this game! Thank you!!!
  15. So well said! COULD NOT agree more. This is a place for highly intelligent people and baseball people... Dos anyone now how to get red of the wine hiccups? I'm in real troble.
  16. I got game thread tomorrow...Gonna keep the streak alive people! Nervous though...Lots of pressure. Topic suggestions? It's a NL game so I'm confused on what to do. Something serious? Joking? Lying? Ugh!
  17. The GM's that passed on Yu Darvish 5 years $120mm and Lance Lynn 4 year $80mm dollar contracts look genius. The deal we got for Lynn was still good. I think... The days of huge contracts for pitchers over 30 are clearly going to decline in the future. Sorry, just ranting.
