  1. Agreed. If this is an evaluation year, then the point is to shuffle through all of the options and discard bad players. If this is a contending year, then there's no room for those kinds of players anyway.
  2. Couldn't agree more. They need to step up and make some investments if they want a good bullpen. I don't know how many more years we have to keep playing supplementary pieces in high leverage roles... Hasn't worked for 4+ years.
  3. I've always favored the number x, but it took a while to figure out what it was!
  4. At the very least minor trades need to be made to shore up the rest of the rotation... Ideally I'd like to aim high and find a person who could be at the top of the rotation with some years of control. If it takes a prospect or 2 + someone on the MLB team I'm alright with that.
  5. Call it stubbornness, but I'm still all in on Greene. If Falvine are the pitching whisperers like they were touted as they were hired, I'd like to give them an 18 year old to let develop him as they see fit.
  6. So let's say you order new furniture.... Is it normal to expect the company to pick up and discard your existing furniture?
  7. It's a tough choice, but I think I would roll the dice on Greene. Wright is a nice consolation prize, and what do I know? From all I've read, and KLAW's quotes above, he's got a prototypical SP body and a good attitude. If he's a hard worker like Berrios, I'll certainly be rooting for the kid to succeed.
  8. Haley is another subject in itself.... 89 MPH with minimal control of his pitches by the 2nd time in the batting order? I don't understand why he's worth protecting on the 25 man roster.
  9. Melotakis or Burdi is an easy call up IMO. I've said this before in other threads and will continue beating this drum. Relievers don't need x amount of innings at A, AA, and AAA in order to be "ready" for the majors. Ride with the hot hands and get rid of struggling relievers.
  10. Still bitter about Little Falls knocking out the hockey team I was on in the state tournament...
  11. Hate to say it, but I think I'd go with AAAA filler or a bullpen game on Saturday. Much like Berrios earlier this year, Gibson has goals to accomplish in AAA before getting the call to Minnesota again. I doubt he's accomplished those goals in 2 starts.
  12. I agree with you definition of an ace. And through May 16th this season, Erv can be described as such. Another huge piece to truly being called an ace IMO is doing all of those things for several years in a row. That's where Erv falls short....
  13. If you have to ask the question whether someone is an ace, he's probably not an ace. Nothing wrong with it, as I believe there are only ~5 true ACES out there in baseball. Staff leader is a good term to describe Erv. He's been lights out and a good signing for this team.
  14. I came into this season under the assumption that this is a ~75 win team. Because of that, I was ready to sell off Dozier, Erv, any veteran that produced. If they're over .500 on June 1, I'll be glad to change the strategy to contender, and think about buying SP instead of selling. Sano and Erv are playing at All-Star, even MVP levels at the moment, and both are healthy. The fanbase is so very tired of losing. It's going to be a very interesting next couple of months....
  15. Welcome back Berrios! Looking forward to watching him pitch again under the bright lights.
  16. If it has something to do with the WBC decision this is the most passive aggressive Minnesota thing they could do.
  17. Pictured: Thad Levine returning to 1 Twins Way after finding and signing something called Adam Wilk http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2073/2132148736_685535202b.jpg
  18. This guy isn't even a 29 year old retread. He's a 29 year old never was. Might as well save the plane ticket money and pick up a player from the St. Paul Saints
  19. One of life's many mysteries, John... As Mike Sixel would say mind.boggling.
  20. On that list, this would be my priority: Sano Buxton Kepler Polanco Dozier I wouldn't even talk to Dozier until the first 4 are locked up.
  21. Can't say I agree with this approach. Gibson arguably has more upside than Tepesch and Haley for example. If you're struggling that much where you're giving up hard contact and can't get out of an inning, upside doesn't matter. There's no place to hide Pressly in this bullpen when it's all hands on deck. IMO they need to keep this group fluid and rotate out struggling pitchers for someone else who could do better.
