  1. All Mauer has to do is show the willingness to play for him to return in 2019. It doesn't matter to me if he's a starter or bench bat. As scottz said, Mauer has been the most known entity for casual Twins fans. I'm going to appreciate his loyalty to the Twins for 17 years, and being the most known "face of the organization" over the last 14 MLB seasons. It's going to be a long time until we see another player stick in this organization for 17 years.
  2. Maybe. Escobar is a UFA after this season. And if I've learned anything this offseason, it's to not offer long term contracts to players entering their decline phase. So that would eliminate 30 year old Escobar in 2019...
  3. I would argue that's always been a part of the plan. As long as he can hold his own at 3B until Mauer is retired I'm fine with it.
  4. Concur, concur, concur. This team (until this year with Morrison) doesn't sign power hitters. He's the first power hitter they've developed since Morneau. And people can't ship him out of town quick enough... I also think he'll be an All-Star again, and come close to 40 HRs.
  5. Concur. And ideally it keeps Hughes and/or Sanchez from the opening day rotation. Pray for the injury gods to stay away and this team is a contender for the division title.
  6. They could I guess. But why would you not want the 2nd best 2B in all of baseball? They could go with the cheap internal option and get maybe ~2 WAR from him, or 5+ WAR from Dozier.
  7. And, to touch on nicksavikings' main talking point, his sinker percentage has risen exponentially over the last couple of years per Fangraphs: Sinker percentage: 2012: 21% 2013: 20.5% 2014: 25.8% 2015: 27.5% 2017: 42.2% Just say no to Lance Lynn.
  8. Lance Lynn Pitch Type per Fangraphs: 2017 - FB - 81% SL - 11% CB - 4.7% CH - 2.6% 2015 - FB - 85.4% SL - 8% CB - 4.8% CH - 1.9% 2014 - FB - 79% SL - 10.2% CB - 8.4% CH - 2.4% 2013 - FB - 73.2% SL - 12.7% CB - 10.1% CH - 4% There's no dishonesty. He's a predominantly fastball pitcher.
  9. The Twins would need to sign Escobar next off-season too, as he's a UFA. Morneau wouldn't have been traded if he wasn't dealing with post-concussion issues.
  10. Agree with all of this. I also hope he proves people wrong by signing a deal with the Twins and playing at a very high level. It's not impossible to play at a high level as a 2B in your mid-30's.... Chase Utley, Ian Kinsler, Dustin Pedroia, and Robinson Cano are all doing it right now. I think some are really underestimating the gap in production between Dozier and the replacement (most likely Gordon). Over the past four years, Dozier has posted a 120 OPS+ while averaging 32 homers, 72 walks and 17 steals per season while playing above average defense. Keeping Dozier is something a contending team would and should do. If we believe the window is open now for the Twins, why would they let him walk? I'm of the belief they should keep Dozier, and trade Gordon+ at the deadline for an impact SP.
  11. Throughout the winter Lynn hasn't interested me. Just because it's closer to opening day and he's still available doesn't change my opinion... At this point, the Twins could wait until June and NOT have to pay the draft pick to sign him.
  12. Last year I took the approach goulik mentioned in his post. Adopting players that were near MLB-ready. Now that Garver and Hildenberger graduated, I went out of my comfort zone and adopted a couple of kids in A ball. I'll tell you what, there's a lot more excitement and participation from the community compared to years past. Looking forward to keeping up the HYPE all season long.
  13. Don't sell yourself short! I remember you saying you went to a bar last season and ordered a salad during the Twins game!
  14. It's fun to see some of these guys that I've only read about. Concur with Nick Gordon looking like he needs a Double Cheeseburger or 7. I also assumed Romero was kind of a lanky kid but he's pretty big. Hopefully he can continue to get stretched out as a starter, and save the last 20 odd innings in the MLB bullpen.
  15. Maybe it's Jeremy Hellickson that's next to contact?
  16. I don't know if he has to take less years. If this off-season is a trend and not a mirage, front loading that SOB is the answer. From what I'm reading pundits in baseball are predicting next off-season will look more "normal" than this off-season. 3-4 years for Dozier is a no brainer. 5 I'd hesitate but still sign the dotted line. 6+ years is a no.
  17. Ever since I read this article on The Ringer, I'm cool with the idea of the team's best hitter batting leadoff. https://www.theringer.com/2017/3/31/16040426/2017-mlb-preview-leadoff-hitter-revolution-george-springer-kyle-schwarber-2e49f6ff7c58
  18. Didn't he say in the past it was so he could see a good high fastball to pull right away?
  19. Boy, the depth is paper thin at C this year. Good thing Castro is durable.
  20. Why even bother filling out the paperwork for an offer that low?
  21. I'm guessing other teams will offer more years, albeit for a smaller AAV. I'd be quite comfortable going 4 years, wince but still do it for 5 years, and walk at 6.
  22. See I'm pretty confident betting on him continuing what he's been doing into his mid-30's. Dozier is probably the most marketable Twin right now, and the one casual fans know the most... I don't know, it's hard to imagine a team without Dozier and Mauer within the next year. They'll have to start another "Get to Know Em'" campaign!
  23. I think it's going to be difficult to replace what Dozier does for the team. Assuming that Gordon takes over at 2B, we'll miss out on 20+ HRs that would have came off of Dozier's bat instead of Gordon.
  24. He's a top 3 2B by most every offensive statistic and WAR out there. And proved his worth by slugging 34 HRs last year after his career year in 2016.
