  1. Signing Wacha only makes sense if the plan is to trade Gray. Which probably makes sense anyways. Right or wrong, he made public statements that he didn’t like how he was handled with the 5 and fly philosophy. Chances are he’s not gonna sign an extension here. I wish I knew what they’re trying to accomplish. Because right now the offense will be worse than last year and they weren’t all that good to begin with. I can see the pitching staff being above average if Gray remains a Twin. But you’re not going to be a contender if you’re league average on offense and pitching.
  2. My point is Joe Mauer and Byron Buxton mentioned in the same thread or sentence is silly. They’re not even close to the same type of player. You bringing up Joe Mauer in this thread is ridiculous.
  3. You’re back pedaling faster than Cam Dantzler in soft coverage here. “The playoffs don’t give you bravery points for playing your starters without a functional offensive line and the entire league has been taking cheap shots at will against your star WR all year long.“ So what do you want? For the starters to play and win? Or “hedge their bet” and lose?
  4. Joe Mauer’s 2011 season, where he played 82 games, is the only season in his 15 year career that comes close to Byron Buxton. These 2 players aren’t in the same universe when it comes to availability playing baseball games.
  5. They looked at #1 seeds who rest their starters or not over the last 10 years. What #2 or #3 seeds advocated resting their starters in that time frame? Or in @nicksaviking’s words “hedged their bets” by intentionally losing?
  6. I don’t think the SI study is garbage at all. But as long as you came to the same conclusion, welcome aboard.
  7. Clearly. .333 win percentage resting vs. .786 win percentage not resting.
  8. Do you expect the #1 seed in the playoffs to win? If so, there’s your answer.
  9. Yeah, it would make them rusty in the game you want them to play against, the Giants.
  10. We’re not talking about a 7 game baseball series. We’re talking about 1 game each week. And what @Mike Sixel and @nicksavikingare advocating is disrupting the athletes’ routine for no real reason besides either wanting to lose so they can play the Giants instead, or some fabricated argument that resting players is good.
  11. Flawed argument. Using data from the past 10 years to see if resting has an impact on the first playoff game a team plays, the data is a bit surprising. Comparing the win percentage of teams who rested their starters to those that didn’t, the rested teams had a staggeringly poor .333 win percentage in their first playoff game. The teams who did not rest their starters had a .786 win percentage in their first playoff game. https://www.si.com/nfl/chiefs/gm-report/the-recent-history-of-resting-starters-in-week-17-provides-a-warning-for-the-chiefs
  12. 4 win Cardinals team knocked a familiar team out of the playoffs once upon a time. Call it what you want. You are advocating for the Vikings to lose. The Bears still have a good rushing attack with Khalil Herbert and David Montgomery. It’s no gimme game for us either. As much as Kirk gets blasted every week, he’s still there the following game. I want to win the game.
  13. We’re not going to know that until after our game is over. You would prefer taking the loser mentality and hand them the #2 seed without a challenge?
  14. I’m not concerned about Kirk getting hurt at all. And we still have to win the game…
  15. Justin Fields is out for the Bears with a hip injury. Nathan Peterman is starting. I’d play the offense for the first 3-4 series, then play all backups the rest of the way. Might even sit Jefferson the whole game.
  16. We did it! A person on Reddit created a fun thread on the r/baseball community and concluded that the September 29th game vs. Chicago White Sox was indeed the most meaningless game of the season.
  17. We just haven’t hit the point of no return with the team yet ? I love baseball, but I must say I am growing more apathetic about the Twins. Winning will help, but I think it’s a bit deeper than that. The constant turnover on roster and style of baseball the Twins have played the last couple of years isn’t entertaining. I don’t know what they’re trying to do right now. They’re not building a great offense, nor a great pitching staff.
  18. Potential explanation of what happened to Damar on the field tonight.
  19. No kidding. Can’t believe it took coaches stepping in to provide common sense. I know this is very minor, but ESPN is putting Kolber, Schefter, and Booger in a really bad spot filling time. For the first time possibly ever, I’m agreeing with Booger. Call the game, and figure out something else to put on TV tonight.
  20. Before the coaches stepped in and provided some common sense to suspend the game, the first suggestion was to have the players take 5 minutes to warm up and keep playing.
  21. There’s really no other choice but to cancel it but they’re still waiting it out for some reason.
