  1. I have an idea: MLB should go NFL on us - 9 DHs. More jobs for more players. Better quality on the field. I kid. But do I?
  2. I do think Schwarber's injury is a cautionary tale, whether Sano gets injured in the future or not. Schwarber is a HITTER, not an athlete who belongs in left field. He is therefore going to be prone to accidents, whether running into people or into walls, or just getting twisted up with the grass. And I have to think with speed-demon-mad-man-get-them-all Buxton patrolling centerfield, a collision with Sano one day is "more likely" than "less likely." What thinks thee, Seth?
  3. A Beatles inspired play? Let me think. Pschedelic curveball? John Paul to George double play?
  4. Don't you have a refrigerated drawer in your desk to store your beer? Sheesh.
  5. I would have written "manure spreadin," but that's probably just me
  6. Welcome aboard the New Baseball Season, everyone. I hope you're all stretched out and ready to go. Bring your best every day, even if your best is just typing in some lame (I mean funny) comments. Twins Daily is the place to be! (sung to the Green Acres tune?)
  7. I will add that Wilson Ramos's WAR (whatever you think of it) with the Nationals averages 1.1 per year, which translates as a "Reserve," not a "Starter" and not an "All Star." So I think enough has been said about that trade being so terrible for the Twins.
  8. That would just confuse the hell out of the old timers looking at the box score in the newspapers.
  9. Solid trade, in that Murphy is a catching prospect, and we did not have anyone coming up.
  10. Statistical experts say that the University of Northern Iowa, when they led by 12 with 35 seconds left, had 99.9% chance of winning! So ... you ... never ... know. (Then again, you usually know.)
  11. I just saw that Paul Krebs (29 years old right now), out of UM Crookston, was drafted by KC, and he batted. 1.000 in his minor league career! With an 1.000 OBP! (2 At bats; a hit and a walk). The only player ever drafted from that school. Funny stuff.
  12. Subbuterean could become a word to use on a regular basis. "The seafood at Seafood Foodie Heaven was subbuterean. "Yeah, I agree. it wasn't really a hit with me with me either."
  13. Excellent article, as always, Nick, but I think it's presumptuous at this point to anoint Buxton as "in another class entirely" than Hicks and Gomez. Time will tell. Many first overall picks have failed to make good in the past. If he's not significantly better at the plate through April he will need further seasoning in AAA. And then time will tell again.
  14. There's a lot to shake out: Will Buxton blossom? If so, when? Will Arcia make a comeback? But only that, he must improve. Will Santana flame out like he did last year? Or play like he did the year before? Will Sano work out in right? Will Rosario match last year (would be fine), or will be backslide or improve? Will Quentin come back and surprise us all? Or will be released soon? (Same with Sweeney.) None of these players are established. The new season shall be fun to watch from this perspective.
  15. I get your logic. It's sound. It is no doubt what will happen. I just don't care to see Nunez playing baseball for the Twins. So the answer for Polanco is "later." I do look forward to seeing his mettle tested.
  16. We know Nunez's ceiling is pretty low, so I would hope, sooner rather than later, the Twins go with youth (Polanco) over the old guy with known limitations.
  17. Your analysis is superior to mine. I will have to look into the advanced metrics (wRC+). Thanks for the push.
  18. I hope you're right about Polanco. He has committed a ton of errors in the minors, mostly at SS, which is where he has mostly played. At 2B he seems to have done better. He's only 22. When will we finally see more of this young man at a Twins uniform?
