  1. We must be watching different teams. With the injuries and in season moves, the roster is terrible.
  2. Given the injuries and lack of production from key players, it's hard to blame Molitor for the start. Sano and Burton's problem isn't in how the manager is using them. Pressley is turning into another Michael Tompkin, everyone is thinking he should be a lot better than he actually is. Based on his career, April was the fluke not May and June. Reed's usage is normal for his career. And let's be realistic, he signed with the Twins because there wasn't exactly a bidding war for him this off-season.
  3. His value is quickly becoming his worth in "trade value". Hopefully he continues to pitch well into July and can bring back a good prospect.
  4. From Fangraphs article, the Twins maximize the dollar amount. There are many ways they could use the money. "As for the Twins, there is a certain dollar threshold at which the payroll flexibility for next season became more important than the 74th pick. As a team expected to be in contention, that money could come in handy as early as this year’s trading deadline, but more likely this winter. The team has around $30 million committed in salaries next season and Brian Dozier will be a free agent. While trading a draft pick away for cash isn’t a great look for a small-market team wanting to rely on homegrown players, the cost they extracted from the Padres is higher than we’ve ever seen before."
  5. All players have flaws and discussing isn't showing a lack of appreciation for what a does well. It's like saying we should just be happy the Twins made the playoffs last year and shouldn't discuss what they need to do to improve team.
  6. It's easier to carry a non power Mauer when your second baseman hits 30 homers. If they don't resign Dozier, first is a logical place for a power upgrade. I find it interesting that in the Dozier forum, posters were not willing to give a younger and twice as valuable player more than $15 million a year, but are okay with giving Mauer $10.
  7. Just like Breslow's increased spin rate we heard about last year,I'm sure just like Terry Ryan's signings, one of these will work. Just after losing several players by removing them from the 40 man roster and through rule 5,I had hopes for an aggressive off season. This move and the whole off season looks like they are not planning to contend this year and are building for 2019.
  8. It's all depends on what they do with the final roster spot. They lost 3 players clearing roster spots and if they lose a couple player in the draft, they better pick up some valuable players.
  9. Bought is probably a better description than swapped, since they paid the $4 million in salaries.
  10. Going to be rough, - likely to be adequate at best in right field, doesn't sound like "all but certain" failure. Just like with the Souhan article, it easy to read what you want to read and miss what the author is trying to say. Which is why I said I believe the outrage here is based on the messenger and not the message.
  11. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/21807-article-calling-it-miguel-sano-will-be-al-mvp/ Back in March 2016, when you were calling Sano as the MVP, it appears failure wasn't "all-but-certain"
  12. Reusse wrote a similar column in spring training last year and received similar criticism. I don't think the "when"the column is written is as important as who writes the column.
  13. Wouldn't that ERA of Berrios be similar to May's first year and about 3 years younger?
  14. Upside of a #3 starter and maybe the second best pitcher on the worst staff in the majors sounds like the definition of mediocre.
  15. Didn't the Tigers get this year's rookie of the year in the Cespedes? Waiting seemed to still get them a very good prospect.
  16. http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/minnesota/1973.html I'm a huge Winfield fan, but I think the legend is growing. He actually never lead the team in rebounding, he played his 2 years with Jim Brewer, so it would have been hard to lead the team. He went to the University on a full baseball scholarship, not a basketball. He played basketball in his junior and senior season. He was drafted by the 3 sports, but in basketball and football, he was drafted in rounds that no longer exist. In the 5th round in the NBA and 17th round in the NFL. Back when Winfield was drafted in the NBA, they were drafting trainer in the late rounds and the NFL was a hometown Viking pick. It's a great show of respect, but he really wasn't a prospects in the other leagues.
  17. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/evaluating-the-prospects-minnesota-twins/ Here's a 2014 Fangraphs scouting report saying RF or first is probably where Sano will end up. Unless we are also considering Fangraphs prospect evaluations horrible, the Twins decision to move him to the outfield can't be considered a crazy. Sano's lack of prep and gaining weight is more responsible for the failure than the actual move. Hopefully he works harder at being a competent third baseman this offseason. Overall it's a very interesting scouting report on Sano. Questions if his walk rate will continue (15% in 2015, down to 10% in 2016 and 7.5% for second half of 2016) and his weight issues.
  18. Can't be afraid of trading veteran players at peak performance. Dozier and Santana should be moved this off-season.
  19. I understand your point, but Mauer isn't actually hurting for money and also isn't in the need for a lucrative career after his playing days. It's a billionaire versus multi-millionaire. We are upset if the billionaire doesn't spend enough of his money because we feel we paid for the stadium. But we shouldn't be upset with the multi-millionaire who contract is paid by the money made at the publicly financed stadium if he underperforms expectations.
  20. It's okay for a player to grab every dollar, but if an owner maximize profit, he robbing us?
  21. The Twins were in good company in cutting Valencia. Boston, Baltimore, Kansas City and Toronto always dropped him.
  22. For a 100 loss team, nobody should be untouchable. If Park has value and you have a in house replacement, you should have him available.
