Twins Could Trade for a Former Free Agent Target
High heat commented on Ted Schwerzler's blog entry in Off The Baggy
You originally didn’t want to go the extra year, now wanna get in on it after 2 prime years you would have originally would have wanted are gone? I like Darvish and like the idea of trading for him but not sure it’s worth paying prospects and big $ for him. Unless you can get away with cubs dumping salary and you give up some low level C type prospects.- 7 comments

I wanted Donaldson last offseason, but I think he had a make it good year and will now get a good size longer term deal. Didi would be a perfect Twins fit. Twins need to improve defensively and adding Didi at SS and move Polanco to 2B, which I think he would grade out extremely well and having Arreaz to 3rd or a utility role would help the pitching out tremendously. No thanks on Edwin, a DH part time 1B and his better days are behind him.

This is my thought! I think Sano can be as good as Cj Cron was defensively at 1B, but it requires all offseason and lots of innings this look at bringing in a guy like Addison Russell Or Jose Iglesias. Polanco would likely be a good maybe great defensive 2b. all the sudden the poor infield defense becomes a strength.

What has happened to Ben Rortvedt? Great defender and a left handed bat perfect back up catcher to Garver with La totuga as the 3rd.

Front Page: The Future Value of Luis Arraez
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The kid can flat out hit. Knows the strike zone very well. Puts the ball in play all over the field. He doesn’t have any other above average skill but can play multiple positions. I think he is our 2b next yr and we can go move nick Gordon -
Brian navarreto has always interested me. Big dude who plays really good defense behind the plate. If he could just figure out the bat. Maybe he’s a late bloomer with the bat and last year was a starting point.

Article: Prospect Spotlight Series: Royce Lewis
High heat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’m going to nit pick a guy yet I hope he stick at SS. Footwork looks slow, yet foot speed looks well and can see he can get there with the sliding stop up the middle up to his feet quickly. But getting footwork down and into throwing motion is needed. Arm looks strong but looks long. Meaning takes him a long time to get ball out of glove and long to first. Not sure if it is all footwork related or if it’s natural long throwing motion or a combo of the 2. Neither is detrimental just adjustment before big league ready. Expected from any 19yr old. I would argue his value changes segnificantly if he has to move off SS and into the OF. We’ll have to see what 2019 holds but a serious of interesting prospects to keep an eye on. -
Jonathan Schoop should be a guy we look at for 2nd base. Plays good defense and has had a good bat with power. I think a guy like Matt Shoemaker remind me of a guy like Joe Nathan. Has had some success but can’t stay healthy as a starter. Move him to the bullpen let him throw hard for 1 inning and not worry about setting up hitters.

I’m a fan of going after Jose Iglesias but if we miss out I would not mind them bringing back Brian dozier. I think a corner bat is needed I’m a Josh Donaldson fan on a one year deal or multiple years anyway to bring him in. Carlos Santana would be a decent vet and Phillies is likely to just give him away at this point.

Article: May Day is Coming for the Twins
High heat replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With starters rarely going passed 6 innings I think guys like May are perfect to be given the ball and told you get one time through the entire batting order. Get us as deep as possible. Then he's given the next day or 2 off. Everytime in that's his role.- 78 replies

Article: Logan Morrison: Bad or Just Bad Luck?
High heat replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A guy who is in a slump and has a .043 average can push a bunt down the left side and walk to 1b? You take the single a few times and teams stop doing it. How stupid can these guys be? -
Article: Jason Castro and a Cup of Coffee
High heat replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have nothing against Castro but he is an average MLB catcher. Passes the eye test for me defensively has his moments offensively but isn't a game changer. Tell me why not Graver. Has hit everywhere he has played, put up good defense numbers in the high minors. Seems OK behind the plate seems more of a comfort thing then anything. Convince me why not Graver more moving forward or why should we. -
Adrianza is a better shortstop and he started at 3rd and LF. Polanco is going to be the SS until he proves he can’t. If he’s functional and the bat continues to produce he will stay at SS but Polanco is not a long term option at SS.

Article: Deadline Primer: The State Of The Central
High heat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think there is a way to stay competitive while still selling some pieces. I am a believer that we have seen the best of Ervin santana. Put him on the market as soon as the remaining teams loss out on Grey. Could likely get a pitcher ready to fill in now. Plus future assets. Dozi er should be another on the market. Polanco move to second and role with adrienza and escobar at SS. You can still buy some relief help like Hand and Neshek and still be in the same position as now -
Hoping zack Granite is in Rochester by the end of the week. Another good month in Rochester he could be dawning a twins uniform. Injuries are bound to happen and premium defense in the outfield has been key to our success this far. Robbie just won't cut it filling in long term in the outfield from what I see.

Here to hoping Brian Navareto can learn how to hit. By all accounts he is big league ready defensively but if you can't hit .200 in single A. You might as well bring a purse with you to the plate in the bigs. Looks like he is doing better the first month this season hoping more at bats like today!

I would love to buy out some free against years now from Sano. He looks so much more engaged at 3rd then he did in RF or DH. I would also talk to Buxton and see if he would take $ up front and buy some years showing confidence in him as well

De Leon, Alvarez, Scott Kazmir. Get it done and work on moving Ervin Santana. Maybe kazmir stays health and is effective and you can flip him later. -
Article: Predicting the Twins 40 Man Roster Additions
High heat replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very good point on needing to keep guys who you can cut on your 40 man to sign players. The rule 5 is either high upside guys or guys ready now who are blocked in other systems. Pitchers are easier to hide and let pitch up mop up duty, so Remero and Jorge should be givens to add. Garver is close to the majors and plays a position of great need around the league also a given. Here is my argument for adding Vielma and leaving Palka and Granite off. Vielma has great speed and plays great defense at a premium defensive position. If he hits he has All star talent, he is easy to stick on the end of a bench pinch run and defensive replacement especially in the NL. Palka plays corner outfield and isn't great at it and hits left handed. Hard for a guy to stick on the bench who doesn't add much unless you think he is good enough to be an everyday guy. If he was right handed and mashed lefties I'd have a different opinion. Palka would get drafted but would likely come back to use. Granite is a fourth outfielder, had a great year last year but just doesn't have that high upside. If he did what he did for multiple years or at triple A I might had considered it more but the rule 5 doesn't consistently see guys like Granite get drafted and stashed. I want to keep a spot open as well so we can draft someone in the rule 5. We have the first pick correct?- 18 replies

Article: AFL Recap - Week 3: Garver Powers Saguaros
High heat replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Like to see hitting well and that the coaches think he is one of the top hitters as well batting him 4th. Also it sounded like he threw out 2 of the 3 would be base stealers and had some nice things to say about quickly learning new pitchers and working with them. Would like to be able to count on Garver as a catching option in 17.- 13 replies

Article: 40-Man Roster Decisions: The Hitters

I'd cut Grossman, Santana, Centeno, Plouffe and add Granite Palma Garver Vielma. If A spot isneeded For an extra pitcher I'd remove ABW.- 37 replies

I'd like to see Vielma get a long look this spring. He battled injury this year but he has good speed and some have said the best glove at SS in the minors. I don't mind Escobar there but Polanco cant play SS. Either him or Dozier need to be moved this winter. As for Gordon the next few weeks in AFL will tell a lot about where this kid is and has to go work on. His skill set should be intrigueing
-
I think Vargas and Polonco plays a factor in Grossman staying or going as well. Vargas and Polonco are out of options next yr, if you are keeping Polonco as a utility guy or the SS that leaves him or Escobar as the super utility. Vargas has played well and his upside is like his body type. If he is the DH I don't want Grossman taking at bats from Vargas or Escobar or Polonco. I think it would be a different story if Grossman played better defensively but he has been a far cry from the former CFer. That's not even considering any free agent signings or players acquire by trade. I think Grossman is going to be the 26th man and a victim of the roster crunch if he is worth something get it even if it is a flyer on a young guy in the low minors.
