  1. What would also be interesting, since the silver slugger didn't start getting awarded until 1980. What would be the Twins Silver Sluggers from each position since 1980???
  2. 1988 Gary Gaetti blows anything Castino has done out of the water. We are talking about 1 good season instead of career, right? Since Bostock had an awesome season with the Twins before going to the Angels.
  3. My original point was.... "Hey Pot, I hear the Kettle calling." During this current administration, to run down the last one, is kind of difficult. Once this administration actually does something then they can run Terry Ryan down all they want. But technically under his guidance they actually won a series and some games. So to make fun of him when these guys have won none is a little hypocritical.
  4. Bundy has been ok, but because he can't get passed 5 innings ever he causes the Twins to have to occasionally use a guy like Pagan, so Bundy does ok, but because he can't go further the Twins lose some of his starts and other pitchers starts that can't go more than 5 innings because they have to use guys like Pagan. They can't use Duran and Jax every night.
  5. I think the overall problem with analytics is this. Remember in the movie Moneyball with Billy Bean (Brad Pitt) said. If we play like the Yankees in here, (scouting and development), then we will lose to the Yankees out there, (actual games). So that was a baseball guy teaming up with an analytics guy to come up with a plan to do things differently than the Yankees/rich clubs. So now the Yankees play moneyball, and use analytics to build their teams. Now the Twins also are using analytics to build their team. The problem comes when you try to build the same types of teams through analytics. I feel like the teams that don't have the big money to spend like the Yankees and Dodgers etc...... They can't be trying to play the same moneyball that the big spenders are playing. So over the last 5 - 6 years the Twins should have been going after say Stolen bases while the Yankees didn't care about those. Then those players that provide stolen bases are cheaper than the guys hitting 40 homeruns. Now that the ball is changing and possibly changing the game a lot of the teams are going to start going after stolen bases and now, over time, stolen bases will get expensive. At that point in time the small market teams will need to identify something that the other teams are not targeting. So a lot of MLB is being controlled by the computer geek guy who is just looking at analytics. Where they probably need to team up with some better baseball guys too in order to identify what this or that organization can do differently than the Yankees to challenge them. If they do analytics the same as the Yankees then the Yankees will outspend them to get ahead.
  6. Because on the flip side the media is too scared to ask those types of questions because if they ask the wrong questions too many times about the organizational philosophy then they won't have a microphone anymore to ask any questions, so they keep it copacetic. Then they at least get to listen to the rehashed drivel that comes out all of the time. Now if the media were to ask difficult questions to one of the players then they'd get away with that, but the organization won't let the media ask difficult questions that the organization has to answer.
  7. "I'm just here so I don't get fined." Maybe Rocco should take some notes from a classic.
  8. Yeah I'm not saying that they are coming into the dugout and telling him what to do. But they are saying that, you have a lefty reliever in the pen, you have a left handed hitter up, we don't care if the starting pitcher is throwing a shutout on only 68 pitches we expect you to put the lefty vs lefty matchup everytime, it doesn't matter that the starter has gotten that lefty out twice already. The other night Mahle was pulled after 83 pitches, he has thrown over 100 pitches 10 times this season and with a high of 119 in a 5 -3 complete game. So I get it when you can bring in a guy like Duran or Lopez. But when you have to use them every night against the same team they are going to probably get hit. So if Mahle goes 1 more inning and they bring in Fulmer in the 8th and Duran in the 9th they still win 4 - 0 probably. Then last night if Bundy goes at least one more, maybe two. Then Theilbar, Jax and Lopez closes it. Duran and Lopez don't get over exposed. People always say the bullpen is getting overused, the actual pitchers arent really throwing too many innings, it's just that, to me, they are throwing too many times against the same teams in a row. These MLB hitters are good and if they see you one day and then get to see you again tomorrow their odds go up. JMO
  9. Is it the manager who is in love with the bullpen or are the decisions coming down from the top? Like I mean if that is the situation and Rocco doesn't do what they say he will lose his job. I mean that's kind of why St Louis got rid of their manager last year and he was in the manager of the year running I think?
  10. Good thing Fletcher bunted since that never works. Twins will now win, right?
  11. Did he make any bad calls when twins hitters were up? Umpire crap usually goes both ways, it usually evens out over time.
  12. They are doing fine, but what worries me is when teams see the same guys over and over again. It would be nice to limit that a little by only having to pitch 2 - 3 innings per night instead of 4 - 5 innings.
  13. He got turned around before he jumped. I think if that doesn't happen he probably gets it.
  14. Yeah like 68 pitches abd they pull him. I mean I think the twins have proven for most of the year that their 6th and 7th inning of the Bp isn't usually very good.
  15. I suppose it's time for Rocco to pull Mahle since he's at like 68 pitches already.
  16. He's playing, just been up and down this year. Now that the Angels got rid of Marsh he will probably get more and more chances to play.
  17. Yeah the Angels have been really bad since Trout and Rendon are both on the IL. Walsh is hitting like .130 for the last two months, Ward has fallen apart, they look bad but like have a lot of potential if everyone is healthy.
