  1. Well, maybe he should calm things down in KC? I thought he was for sure going to replace Yost last year if they missed the playoffs. He seems the type of manager DM wants, local writer Joe Posnanski has always spoken highly of him. The Royals are a Twins-like team. Anyhow, it looks like he wants to manage again and I hope he gets a job.
  2. Why on earth would the player's association be ok with that? Do they get a clause granting FA early if the player out plays his expected return on the contract? I know, as fans, we tend to root for the team over players but that's pretty extreme.
  3. I don't have any doubt that, if the Twins take Aiken, they'll sign him. They'll have worked something out with Close before hand. The issue is solely on how they view his medicals.
  4. Great. I'd love for Aiken to be our pick if the docs ok it.
  5. Seth would know better but I believe Ryan and Steil have done a lot of house cleaning of coaches in the minor league systems since Ryan came back. I remember the AA manager in the late 00's had some friction with the FO.
  6. Has Ryan let a potential FA just walk away since he got back? I guess he's let a few guys go (Casilla, Marquis, Parm). He's traded (at the deadline and beyond it) Hammer, Morales, Butera, Carroll, Correa, Morneau, Liriano. You could make a case that he should trade guys like Dozier or Perkins (like he did with Span and Revere), instead of having them under contract for the next nucleus but I do think he's done a decent job of trading away the parts that he's decided won't be part of the future clubs.
  7. Well, it's baseball season so even if the Twins are bad, it's baseball season. It's the only sport I care about anymore. I think the Twins can be a .500 team but a lot will ride on Nolasco and Mauer rebounding and the continued improvement of guys like Arcia and Gibson. And I'm extremely anxious for Meyer to debut. I'm also very excited about the prospects - especially the ones we have at AA and above. Guys like Harrison and Walker could have breakout seasons for us to go along with the high number of impact prospects.
  8. I would argue the opposite. Ryan's keeping a level head and basing his decisions on a bunch of important factors. He saw that Meyer's control is really bad right now. He understood that you use more than 5 starters in a season so who is on your April 5 roster isn't that important. He probably wanted Hicks to win CF but saw that he's still not hitting and decided to go with two guys who will probably hit as well and probably play better defense.
  9. Did anyone actually see how he's pitching out of the stretch? Same issue as last year or was he better this spring (in SSS)?
  10. Nice article. Gibson has been listed as a break out guy by Schonfield at ESPN (along with Arcia) and an article at hard ball times. Don't have the links for either but both noted his ground balls and his strange splits - he had some clearly dominating games to go with some absolute stinkers.
  11. Nice article. How much did Davis sign for? Hopefully the team can get lucky with a few of these guys.
  12. I like May a lot. I said I thought he'd lead the Twins in strikeouts this year so (course, I also said Meyer would get the 5th spot so Nostradamus, I am not). I really hope he's on the ML roster from the get-go.
  13. Well, you can also go by history. In any event, I think we both want Meyer and let's hope that happens. We still have a few weeks for trades, injuries and bad play to come into effect.
  14. I get what your complaining about and I want Meyer on the opening day roster, too. But I think your larger point - that the Twins aren't promoting young arms isn't particularly fair. Until last year, they didn't really have any young arms that were worth promoting. And May, despite posting a 50 ERA+ and large negative WAR got more starts than Pelfrey or Milone and 6th most on the team. Certainly, Ryan has created a number of very young rotations in his time, so it's a bit of a stretch to suggest, as some have, that he doesn't understand getting pitchers up quickly.
  15. Seth, What is EST like? How much time a week to players put into baseball? Do they have jobs on the side? I assume they play scrimmaged games?
  16. I honestly can't see how anyone can say that. First of all, we do have a GM who has done this before. It's not like Ryan doesn't know how to rebuild a team with prospects. Cripes, he's already on record saying he thinks both Sano and Buxton will debut this season. I'm always amazed at how upset people get on here about events that haven't happened. Hunter is not blocking anyone right now and if it ends up that he is, the Twins will do something about it.
  17. Maybe, but the Twins go with Vets thing is old and overblown. And they had the same issue last year and went with the rookie over three vets.
