  1. Don't let scorching hot Jose Abreu beat you, Mr Ryan. Then we're good.
  2. I don't think that's true, but in any case it's irrelevant. The question is, will a fresh reliever have better success against the top 5 in a lineup than the third time from the starter? As RB noted, the runs given up count the same no matter the actual reason. I don't care if Bundy's ERA might be slightly lower if he got to face 27 hitters instead of 22. I care about not giving up those runs in the first place.
  3. Completely, totally, utterly wrong. At the end of the day, RBI are the single most valuable contribution a player can make on offense. Sometimes not predictive, sure. But when evaluating performance in terms of contributions towards winning, nothing a player did was more valuable. Nothing.
  4. Buxton just turned and got the ball into the IF as quickly as possible, in the general direction of 2nd base. He didn't have time to aim to a specific teammate. What's kind of funny is in each snippet of replay, none of the announcers quite knows what's going on (except possibly Perkins). Like me in real time, they thought Urshela needed to throw to 1st to complete the triple play. Even the last one, where Dick is back after the commercial break, he calls it a "9-5 triple play. That's 8-5, Dick.
  5. In case anyone needed a reminder that walks are indeed NOT as good as hits.
  6. I don't think his run would have counted. In this case, tagging Moncada was the second out, stepping on 2nd the 3rd out. There was no time out, the ball was in play the entire time. There was no needed "4th out." The two plays weren't similar. edit: I just re-read your post and noticed you said "1 out." In the immortal words of Emily Littela, "Never mind." In the also immortal words of Bert Blyleven, "I ****** that all up."
  7. I'm not at all convinced his bat will continue to be playable, but happy to concur I've been wrong so far.
  8. Planet? Call me a homer, but I'd argue best in entire universe.
  9. I found this exact quote on "White Sox Interactive" only they seemed to think it was Twins pitchers getting all the calls.
  10. Regardless if you support or question removing Bundy--and for the record I support it--IMO it was most certainly NOT a "gut level decision." I believe this was a decision made--using data and a plan to compensate for weak starting pitching--prior to the game starting. The definition of managing by spreadsheet. I don't think that's even controversial. Hell I'd argue it was a decision made before THE SEASON started.
  11. An 8-5 triple play, the 1st in MLB history, and something even rarer: Jeffers throws out a runner!!
  12. Why would you just "let him go?" If you throw him out the game's over.
  13. It would put the 2nd run on 2nd base. The 2nd run in extras is pretty important precisely BECAUSE the other team starts the bottom with a runner on 2nd. Plus Buxton might beat it out. It's defensible either way.
