  1. 70charger- l would talk to Frankie "Sweet Music" Viola. He had a little bit of a reputation with the ol change up.
  2. I have a conservative view of who should make the HOF. I'm also a Joe and Twins fan. Those biases probably cancel each other out. I look at Joe as a HOFer. Catcher- Joe's defense was best in the league. Stopping balls in dirt, framing pitches, working a staff, positioning a defense. All top notch. On one of his rehab assignments he significantly reduced the minor league teams ERA. Offensively 3 batting titles as a catcher. Only catcher every with 3. That is elite. One MVP. First base- If Joe can win a Gold Glove he cements his status as an elite defensive player irregardless of position. That is elite. Joe's power numbers are tricky. Home runs not HOF. Doubles and alley power outstanding. DocBauer has a very interesting point about Joe's likability. I.E. non steroid or growth hormone usage. That lack of home run totals could work out in his favor. I see Joe as a HOFer. Not first ballot, but about 5th year off eligibility.
  3. Mr Brooks I started this conversation by stating I doubt he makes 3,000 hits. Then said he could get close. Very true close is a relevant term. Being a huge fan of all things Minnesota I'm both a Twins and Mauer fan. Perfect scenario Joe leads the Twins to a World Series Championship. I also believe Joe is far from a part time player. In a lot of ways similar to Mark Grace.
  4. Sorry Old Goat but you unfixed that. 3 years on top of this year Joe will be well past 2,500 hits. In the neighborhood of 2,600 to 2,700 base knocks. That puts him close to 3,000.
  5. A 3 year $30 million deal to get him close to 3,000 hits. Cement his HOF career.
  6. I think Joe is a HOFer based on his work as a catcher. His position switch is turning out to be one of the best ever. Maybe not a first ballot but definitely a HOFer.
  7. Joe has 2,000 hits and is closing in on 900 walks. This year he will hit 3,000 times on base! Effing AMAZING. Hours on base % is closing in on .600 for the year! REALLY
  8. I doubt it will happen but, I would love to see Joe hit 3,000 in the Twins uniform. No doubt Buxton will jump up they stolen base list. Triples is another list Buxton should climb.
  9. Kelly Vance I agree with you. My example would be the addition of Jeff Reardon in '87. The big bull in the back of the pen can really solidify a pitching staff. The "super pen" strategy uses a closers mentality as early as the 6th inning. Back in the day Rollie Fingers and Goose Gossage were getting 3 inning saves. Now those innings have specialists.
  10. Gimenez, Santiago, Perkins equals addition by subtracting. I'm sorry folks I didn't mean to go all math.
  11. The traditional Twins rotation consisted of bringing black powder muskets to nuclear arm's pow wows.
  12. Not a fan of the DH. What is nice, is the contrast between the AL and NL. Doc Bauer mentions QB's blocking and tackling, Sammy Baugh lead the NFL in interceptions multiple times, and punting as well. If you don't know Slingin Sammy Google him.
  13. Too many shortstops is kind of like having too many pitchers. The more the merrier.
  14. It is with great anticipation I watch for Sano to play a full season and what numbers he will put up. A personal dietitian might be necessary to help with the weight. If he can play 150 games it wouldn't be unreasonable to see a run at 60 Big Flys. Maybe a Cecil Fielder check swing accidental Big Fly.
  15. If it gets lasted in the process, maybe, just maybe, Arrieta could blink and sign a 1 year deal. I want an Ace!
  16. I believe there are multiple components to a championship rotation. The higher the quality of each component the better the teams chances of winning the last game of the year. A big, bad, bull in the back of the pen would be my #1. An Ace to set the tone is my #2. 3 quality arms to bridge from starter to closer, two right and one left, is #3 on my list. At least one other high end starter, preferably two, to cover any hiccups is my 4th option. Making my case is Reardon and Aguilera, followed by "Sweet Music" and Morris. Blyleven was the quality second starter bordering on ace.
  17. Seth, I'm guessing the staff writers think this fella had potential! LOL I hope he is half as good a advertised.
