  1. Good article. I'm not sure that I'd call Pelf "one of the best pitchers in the league", no matter what his stats are so far. He still has a high WHIP and low strikeout totals.
  2. I like the idea of trading someone, whoever has the highest current value. I also like the idea of a 6-man rotation. Perhaps you trade someone and have a 6-man rotation once Nolasco comes back.
  3. Cut Mauer, who cares if you have to eat his contract, he's unproductive Help Vargas improve his defense at 1B Trade Plouffe when his value is highest, even if Sano isn't ready because Escobar can cover 3rd temporarily Help Santana get back on track to take over SS Rosario in LF, Buxton in CF & Arcia in RF with Hicks as 4th OF should be next year's starting lineup DO NOT under any circumstances offer Torii Hunter another contract to play, offer him a contract as a coach for next year Trade Arcia while his value is highest and bring up Kepler, Hicks can fill in if Arcia's value peaks before Kepler is ready
  4. I'd offer him a coaching job for next year & no contract to play. If he still wants to play then he can go elsewhere. His bat isn't enough better than Vargas, Arcia, Pinto, etc to take at bats away from them as a DH next year and he doesn't belong in the outfield anymore.
  5. I hope that Dozier's approach is one that it isn't easy for opposing pitchers to game plan against. I hope that Molitor will soon move him down a few slots in the lineup so that he can drive in more runs.
  6. I agree that this is interesting. I guess Molitor wants Buxton ahead of Dozier in the later innings instead of Buxton ahead of a pinch hitter. I hope the Twins can at least split this series with StL. Somehow I expect that they'll lose 3 of 4 or even be swept...
  7. I agree that it's frustrating. The Twins should have let him walk to the Yankees instead of giving him that huge contract. Investing that many years & millions in an aging player is a mistake.
  8. I hope to see more time with Hicks in RF and Hunter as DH. If Vargas struggles again then it might be time to send him back to AAA and let Hunter be the full-time DH and Hicks your full-time RF. Hicks' defense should be enough better than Torii's to justify moving Torii to DH and Vargas to AAA if he struggles.
  9. I hope this isn't a desperation move due to the recent disintegration of the offense.
  10. When I fell asleep last night Pelfrey had thrown over 80 pitches in the 5th inning and I said to my wife that there was no way the Twins would hold on to win 2-1. I thought for sure that Boston would score more runs. I was shocked to wake up this morning & see that Pelfrey went on to pitch 2 more innings & that Perkins was brought in during the 8th. I was so happy to see this! I hope Molitor continues to show forward thinking like this. Gardy would most definitely have not used Perkins in the 8th & the Twins would probably have given up at least 2 runs in the 8th because of it and thus would have lost.
  11. Exactly! The Twins should trade when his value is highest, even if Sano isn't 100% ready. Escobar can play a replacement level 3B until Sano is ready to take over full-time in the big leagues. Another option would be to trade Arcia or Hicks or Rosario when their value is highest and move Plouffe to the outfield. Based on the strides he has made at 3B it seems he could be a decent defensive outfielder.
  12. Unfortunately it looks like it will be a long season. Molitor isn't proving himself any better than Gardy at managing his bullpen or lineup. Santana's defense was awful yesterday and Escobar should be starting at SS.
  13. This is the key for this season. I hope that Molitor will give Pelfrey a short leash in the rotation and put him back in the bullpen if he struggles.
  14. Considering that PED 1st suspensions are now 80 games it surprises me that teams wouldn't put a PED clause in a contract which would penalize a player for a positive test more than the 80 games of lost salary. This would also afford some protection for the team.
  15. If you're worrying about that lefty in the 8th inning with the Twins holding a slim lead it could make sense to bring in Perkins and let him pitching more than just 3 outs. Especially if the lefty is batting with 2 outs in the 8th, bring in Perkins and let him take responsibility.
  16. Is there a good article anywhere on TD that explains how the MLB service clock works? I've never understood it. I read about players having "options" and being a "super-2" player but I have no idea what any of that means. Thanks...
  17. If right now this market is just a bidding war between the teams it seems the prices would be higher than once a draft is instituted. Perhaps I'm not understanding it correctly, but how is the current situation better for the Twins than having a draft?
  18. This is a great move by the Twins! I read an article a year or two ago on ESPN about how the Cardinals were at the forefront of this movement both with major & minor league players. It's important for the Twins to look out for their players because keeping them healthy means they'll be more successful. I'm glad that they have nutritionists to help the players make wise choices and to provide them with 3 meals a day so that the minor leaguers with their low pay aren't forced to eat Ramen or McDonalds all the time.
  19. I agree. His comments point to a potential attitude problem. I hope the Twins can fix this.
  20. I like the idea of Mauer second because he can move runners over either with a single, a walk or a ground out. His propensity to take a lot of pitches allows for steals & hit & run attempts. However, he has to improve over last year. If Mauer starts out hitting as poorly as he did last year then I think he has to go down to 7 or 8 in the lineup. I also like the idea of Mauer batting leadoff because of how many pitches he takes which would give the rest of the lineup a chance to immediately observe how the opposing pitcher is throwing. However, his lack of speed could be a liability on the bases because he couldn't go first to third on singles as often as Dozier or Santana or Hicks.
