  1. But I think it is fair to say his minor league OPS was inflated due to speed before as well. That is nothing new. I do enjoy the perspective though. It will be interesting in 2-3 weeks to see what his stats are with two strikes. HIs MLB numbers were completely and utterly awful with 2 strikes.
  2. Really glad Buxton is dominating. Let's give him at least three weeks down there, if not longer. The worry is the struggles continue, like they did for Arcia last year. Glad to see that hasn't been the case so far.
  3. I think you need many more starts than that to get a read. May and Gibson were awful in their first 10 starts, while Duffey was lights out. My gut tells me that they would rank May, Gibson, and Duffey over their careers.
  4. It's math. Starters pitch 180-200 innings. Relievers pitch 60-70 innings. Cody Allen had the highest WAR last year for relievers at 2.6, he would have been 40th among starters. Some guys fail as starters and become really good relievers. Glen Perkins, Hochevar, Wade Davis, etc. come to mind. Mariano Rivera started 10 games his rookie year and he had a 5.51 ERA as a whole that year. Some of these guys don't fail neccesarily, but teams are able to conclude they are likely to be better relievers. Let's see if May and Meyer fail to start before we move them and harness that value gap between starting and relieving. Seems like a small ask.
  5. Yeah, outside of Sano, the last top prospect that came up and dominated was probably Francisco Liriano. But we need to see what we have and get the jitters out.
  6. If I had to bet what WILL happen, I would guess he is more likely the closer than in the rotation. So basically the same thing we did with May. I have to say, taking your biggest upside arms and move them to the pen because of need is certainly an, um, interesting way to run a franchise. We have basically filled our rotation with #4-#5 starters and shelled out a ton of money for them ($28M this year for Nolasco, Ervin, and Milone). Then moved the good pitchers to the pen and cut their innings by 70% or so.
  7. He will only get in games that are out of hand or where we have no option
  8. I want to see our best arms fail as starters before preemptively moving them to the pen.
  9. Meyer should go to the rotation. Milone a long role. The weakest reliever is voted off the island.
  10. Decisions should be made with an eye on the next playoff team. So of course Meyer should start. We should also stop messing with these guys. Meyer was on a roll after a terrible 2015 in which he was moved to the pen. Then he starts the year with three dominant starts and we promote him to the big league pen, where it looks like we are afraid to use him. Baffling is literally the only word I can use.
  11. That is the stat that shows he needs to be sent down. I was in the camp that he may turn it around and needs more time. But when he got two strikes on him, he tried concealing it with a poker face. But his confidence was pretty low with two strikes. it shows in these numbers
  12. If Berrios doesn't work out and Meyer is in the pen, pitching once a week.... Then the Twins will resort to a Jose Cuervo partnership.
  13. Pretty cool stuff. I hope he stays on the MLB roster for the next ten years. Not to say he won't struggle right away
  14. Good article. I agree we need a new perspective and the game has passed Terry by.
  15. I think this fails to see the forest. Our closers have blown more saves than they closed out. Fien and Jepsen can't get anyone out and Perkins is hurt again. Lastly, Trevor May is striking out over 14 guys per 9 innings and he is slated to pitch only 60-70 innings this year. The construction of the pen and lack of foresight about the back end has been the issue, causing us to keep a zillion mediocre pitchers to fill the void.
  16. I would say Turner has as good of a shot to being the Twins catcher in the next 1-2 years as Murphy, Garver, etc. But I think it is a stretch to say he is going to solve a dilemma. The dilemma is this is a position the Twins have completely neglected for years and for some reason didn't realize Mauer wasn't going to catch forever. as a result we have a lack of catching talent in the organization, at all levels.
  17. I really wish I could argue with you. This is a very competitive game and the decisions the Twins don't seem to value add up over time. A table roll over to the better poker players. Like not signing a quality reliever or two this off-season. Really a meager investment that we passed on. The results, May will likely never start again and our 40 man is a total mess because going quantity over quality kind of hurts you here. This bleeds over to our 25 man as well, giving your manager no bench options over a period of time. We were years behind in defensive shifting. Other teams were doing it because it works. We have never devoted a position to a platoon. I am sure we could come up with more. The reality is it is not the head coach, or the hitting coach, it is the culture. The culture here is one that lags many years behind the league and constantly plays catch up. Culture can only change from the GM on down.
  18. I have a really difficult request of the Twins. I am not overly worried who they bring up. But I am about how they use him. If it is a AAA lifer over 28, let him ride the pine in case someone breaks an arm. If it is a top prospect, like Max Kepler or a 24 year old that has shown some promise, play them every day. Capish?
  19. So I am watching because I had this illusion that Meyer was here to 1- give him a quasi start and pitch from the 6th on 2 - steal Milone's job Outside of Meyer not getting there in time. I have no clue what this team is doing
  20. I really love the in game division updates Dick gives. As if we are paying close tabs on the division race
  21. Is Meyer there? Or we can't pitch him in a tight game. Because God knows, with the talent in this pen, 16 inning games, etc we need another once a week guy back there
  22. On the planet where I fast forwarded through the whole game so I could see Meyer. Then heard the announcer say they gave Santana an error in the play at the plate so I assumed Milone only had 1 ER (and had no idea he had 9 base runners)
  23. Optimism river. I see you and raise you. Meyer finishes the game with 4 scoreless and a win.
  24. Decent outing for Milone. I was Going to say I hope a scout is there from every team, but I don't see 29 people there
