  1. I guess it comes down to how much they are willing to pay and what either player will take (assuming they are willing to come to the TCs) and whether or not that 4th year could be a team option year since we are speaking in the hypothetical.
  2. I'm gonna keep it real. I would take Wheeler or Bumgarner if they were willing to come here on a shorter term deal like 3 years or something like that. While i would love to have Cole or Strasburg or Scherzer I also believe in the philosophy that Beggers can't always be choosers
  3. Exactly. It's along the lines that people don't want to play for the Twins because it's Minnesota and the Twin Cities kinda like people don't want to play for the Sabres because it's welllll Buffalo.
  4. Yeah. It's time to go grab an ace (if he's really serious) or shut up as the saying goes. Quite frankly and honestly (again playing capt. obvious) this was the year they should have done it at the trade deadline and they did NOTHING on the starting pitching front. We will never see a regular season outburst like this again from this franchise in our lifetimes. Next year (if they stick to the status quo of what they've got for players) i expect them to regress in wins by about 10-15 games. No way will the team have 8 players hitting 20+ homeruns.
  5. BINGO. Let's face it the Twins feasted on the cellar dwellers and struggled against decent competition. Until this team can consistently beat good teams (aka acquire some decent starting pitching for heavens sake), and find a manager (Maddon is available, go get him!) that is interested in running this team with some fire and spirit and not coddling these guys like it's a daycare / spa this will be the result. There is absolutely NO excuse for a 101 win team to play like this in three straight games and not come close to pulling off one win. I've been watching Twins baseball for a long long time and this was totally PATHETIC!
  6. If they (twins) lose game 3 like the first two it’s an utter disgrace. I’m watching the Nats Dodgers game and watching Scherzer pitch makes me envious. If only we had ONE starter that could do what he does, just one.
  7. Again agreed 100%. The should have signed Dallas Keuchel assuming he was willing to come to the Twins Cities for one season and or traded for Zach Greinke or Marcus Stroman. The Pineda suspension is all on Michael and he screwed over his teammates royally, although it's hard to imagine it would have put them over the top against the Yankees by himself. I feel your sentiment. We'll probably never see such an offensive outburst from this particular franchise again our lifetime. What a shame to have squandered it like this.
  8. Lost? LOL. This team would have been embarrased by Houston which arguably has 3 aces in Verlander, Cole, Geinke. Until this franchise is willing to spend big on good starting pitching they will have to be satisfied with AL Central titles every 10 or so years. Simple as that. You have to have good starting pitching (capt. obvious) to win playoff series let alone the big one and the Twins don't even have three solid starters they can march out there against the Yanks. I enjoyed the regular season but everyone knew this was the likely result (AGAIN) without significant starting pitching upgrades. It was forseable. I think i saw a stat on ESPN that Minnesota's record of playoff losses to the Yankees is a record for all professional sports leagues (NBA, NFL, MLB, etc.). Pretty embarrasing to not be able to managed just one win.
  9. Commenting on the cable aspect of your comment. It's not just MLB that's doing this the NHL has been like this for YEARS! They nickle and dime you every step of the way just to gain the privilege of watching their regular season and playoff games. Every time i open a cable bill that's almost $300 I keep thinking what the heck am i paying for here? Seriously! If you can't get the game on a local station you are going to pay out the wazoo to see it. If i didn't have to carry highspeed internet at home for work (i work from home often) and did give two hoots about sports and some tv stations i would have cut these bums (cable) off a long time ago.
  10. I disagree. I think it should be a resounding "HELL YEAH" in favor of Dobnak starting over Gibson and Perez. I've seen too many BAD starts from Gibson and Perez since the all-star break to think otherwise. If it was up to me i'd be willing to make that gamble.
  11. I don't know but it would be interesting to find out. This guy went from A ball to the majors and is doing just (knock on wood). How awesome is that!
  12. Congrats to the Twins! I gotta be honest i had my doubts with the rotation and bullpen issues, but this team persevered. Lets go get 100 wins and then on to the Yanks. I think it's time we beat them in a playoff series.
  13. I want to be optimistic but i just don't think our starters match up very well with the Yankees and certainly not the Astros who arguably have 3 aces in Cole, Greinke and Verlander. Amazing rotation they have.
  14. I gotta be honest, i think the Twins are crazy if they start Perez in a playoff game against the Yankees or Astros. He will get destroyed in a heartbeat.
  15. EXACTLY. I don't see how the Twins start Perez or Gibson in a playoff series at this point. Neither pitcher can get anyone out.
  16. Nice analysis Tom. Really enjoyed your assessments of Dobnak, Stashak, Smeltzer, Graterol and May. I think Dobnak is the real deal.
  17. I'm not quite sure yet if he's ready for post season relief work with 7 innings so far but I think the Twins can use his help. Long term he has the potential to be a dynamite closer and if he adds a third pitch to hi repertoire he could be a lights out starter. What i like about Graterol and Dobnak as well is their lack of fear in attacking the strike zone. That's awesome to me. They've had sooo many starters in the past that don't have that mentality it's refreshing to see this.
  18. I think Thorpe is starting material long term. In some ways its a blessing in disguise that guys like Smeltzer, Thorpe, Dobnak, and even Graterol are getting experience down the stretch here.
  19. Just because they used them doesn't make them legal. They were still cheating. Diuretics are a banned substance by the NCAA, NFHS and every State High school athletic association. If you get caught using steroids or diuretics in high school athletics it's an automatic two year suspension in most states. If you played a varsity high school sport your coach (if he was a good one), should have gone over the rules on doping. They did on our football team and soccer team when i played.
