  1. Good point. People are going to believe what they want to believe. We are seeing that a lot lately and not just in baseball. I doubt it. If LaVelle said it after the trade, then it sounds a lot like damage control to me. That's fine; we all spin. The front office needs to spin. I just have a hard time believing it. I doubt the front office made Escobar an offer and he rejected it, which is what the poster I responded to is implying.
  2. They might not finish second. So, F I hope we can look back on this as a year of mistakes, and I hope the front office learns from those mistakes.
  3. I think the poster was referencing a contract extension, different than a qualifying offer. And I still also think they get a lot more out of letting the fan favorites play out the season. Just my opinion but even stronger opinion now that the deadline has happened. Losing begets lots of ill effects. I'm seeing a lot of ticket promotions on social media all the sudden. Some not so awesome. (Hey! buy frozen pizza, get free tickets! was one of the promotions-- about one step up from "someone broke into my car, and there on the dashboard...")
  4. disagree completely. This team has plenty of talent for a postseason run. Just need to get the best out of it.
  5. 1. Joc Pederson (L) CF 2. Manny Machado ® 3B 3. Matt Kemp ® LF 4. Yasmani Grandal (S) C 5. Brian Dozier ® 2B 6. Cody Bellinger (L) 1B 7. Chris Taylor ® SS 8. Yasiel Puig ® RF 9. Rich Hill (L) P
  6. On the contrary, sports is inherently unpredictable, and games ahead or games behind in the standings is maybe the only number that matters. They were 7 games back when they traded Escobar. Unlikely, but doable!
  7. I think the running analogy falls flat. It was dire, mostly because they were giving away too many games. I would have liked to see if they could rally. "When the going gets tough", and all that.
  8. we were sniffing it when Escobar was traded. We weren't there yet, but we were sniffing it.
  9. Again, you are forgetting the pennant race. I know it angers many people to say, but the Twins were still in a pennant race.
  10. It's the opinion of you and others that the Twins were out of the race, despite evidence they were not, and despite the fact teams make up 7 games more often than you would think.
  11. I give credit to the radio team for giving an extended interview to Dozier after the game last night. It was nice to hear his voice.
  12. I'd bet all these guys are filler, at best, except for maybe the guy in the Pressly trade.
  13. Next step in Garver's development: actually throwing down to the base the runner is attempting to steal.
  14. Or, for those who prefer to read standings, 7 games back.
  15. Now the front office is telling LaVelle they tried to extend Escobar. Well, maybe. I will bet on that being pure damage control instead.
  16. I wasn't talking about trade return or "expecting/hoping" to get back any prospects. I was asking for clarification that the short term pipeline was robust, which I sort of read as "upper minors is already stacked," which I disagree with.
