  1. I totally agree with this. It needs to be a top 100 prospect to pry him loose. I know that seems like an over pay but the team that does it also has a chance to trade him later and get something in return. As Brock stated I don't see any reason to trade him just to trade him and we are going to have trouble protecting our prospects the way things stand right now not sure we need more mid level prospects. Also we need pitching if we want to compete next year so he is valuable to us as well. If you can get someone to overpay then go for it.
  2. I like the list and wouldn't change it. I agree they have to find room for the top three and they will. I think Garver gets added because he has offensive potential and has gotten better defensively. Unless the Twins trade for a really good catcher he is essentially a for sure add. To add Turner I think you need to decide how you feel about Murphy because Turner and Murphy look pretty similar to me. I like Granite and have been watching him come through the system but if you add him them you potentially have 8 outfielders on the 40 man. I don't see that happening. Maybe Walker and Palka are considered more DH\1B than outfielders and Santana in center might not be ideal, but IMO the Twins need to decide about Santana this year if they want to add Granite. Get rid of Santana and Granite is an easy add. Also even if the Twins lost Granite they have Wade coming up in a few years who should be able to do pretty much everything Zach can do. Just have to wait a couple of years. Trade Nunez, Dozier or Escobar and Vielma is an easy add. He is never gonna hit for power but he can hit and plays better than average defense so he looks like a utility player for sure and maybe a quality starter if he can hit some gaps. Would hate to lose him and he would be a good rule five grab for a team because he already brings quality defense. I think they should give Wheeler a look in the second half. The last time I went to bat for him he pitched terrible for a whole season so I don;t know what to think about him other than he might be a fifth starter type. Thing is we have plenty of those already with a crop of guys with higher potential on the way so unless he pitches really well at the MLB level I don't see the twins protecting him. Granted there are guys who can come off of the 40 man but I think it will be hard to find 6 spots. The roster is getting younger so it is getting harder to find spots to hide guys. Will be interesting to see how the Twins value these players and what decisions they make. Personally I hope they trade or remove some of the marginal guys and vets on this team to make more room.
  3. I take it we are not signing Balazovic? Isn't the signing period almost over?
  4. Thanks for all the info Jeremy. They really did a nice job getting the High School picks to sign. I really like the upside for this draft class. Whether anyone reaches there highest potential remains to be seen but I like that these young guys will have some time to develop in the minor leagues.
  5. Rosario is on fire. Granted he didn't walk tonight but I guess when you go 4 for 4 you don't need to. Man he wants to get back to the bigs and I would rather see him than Buxton right now.
  6. Benninghoff deal is a steep price for the 11th pick. Will that affect the Balazovik Signing? Also they had a couple of other high schoolers further down as well. This is gonna get interesting.
  7. Happy to see Miranda signed. Hopefully we find out about the rest fairly soon and see what they end up with this year.
  8. Wheel house is back with a vengeance. Don't know what happened to him last year but he is starting to look like the pitcher I thought was worth keeping two years ago. I defended keeping him over Gilmartin and last year that didn't look so good. Hoping he keeps this up.
  9. As usual, I agree with most everything you say here. It is sad that we are giving him away for nothing especially given his age and potential. And yet on the other hand I don't see him as a good fit on this team. He doesn't have a great eye at the plate. He doesn't field any position well. Given his splits he looks like a platoon player. So basically he could be a DH with no real position flexibility. I just think the Twins can do better than that. If they had a crappy farm system I would say this is a huge mistake but they have Vargas, Walker and Palka in the wings as well and if Grossman is the find he appears to be I think they all are as good if not better options than Arcia at least at this point. While I am sad to see him go and have success elsewhere we can't keep everybody. It is a waste that they did not develop him properly and will get nothing back. I cannot defend that, but at the same time I think it is time to move on.
  10. I tend to agree with you. Not every pick is a value pick as sometimes they want to pay a player less to pay an other more (ie college seniors). Lot's of boards have players ranked way lower or higher than other boards so consensus beyond the top 50 is iffy at best. In the end hardly any of these players will make it to MLB. You hope the scouts can find one or two guys a draft that can help the big club. That is a lot of swing and misses every year for every team.
  11. I like the picks 1-5 which equals 7 as they all seemed to be picked right about where they should be and if not have some high ceiling potential. I am coming around on the Kirilloff pick. I thought college pitcher was the better value there but going with a young hitter for the next wave probably makes more long term sense. He has a lot of tools and a higher ceiling than the college pitchers so it makes sense. I hope he is a good one. I loved the Rortvedt pick and his signing so fast makes me like him even more. Glad he is ready to get to work and become the star player I think he can become. I hope they can sign most if not all the top 20 players and that this becomes a great class for them.
  12. I like the list. It's a good list but tough going for a first round pick when you start out at 9th. Typically they start in the top 5. Lot's of first round picks and international signer's in that top 10 so I guess that makes sense. Like others I could quibble about placement but swapping is just a matter of preference at this point. I take it we would see the top high school catcher in the top 20?
  13. I have been a big Eades basher, but have to say he has been pitching pretty well lately. I still think he is better fit for the pen but am happy to see him playing well.
  14. Happy to see the Twins going hard for hitters and going young. Should help set them up for a second wave. Low minors has been short on good hitters the past few years as they focused on pitching. Hard to say if these guys turn out but they did seem to get a little of everything. 5 tool guy, power guy, speed, the best prep catcher etc.
  15. That is a pretty impressive top ten. I am hope, hope, hoping that the pitching will translate to MLB. If it does I think this team is ready to be really good for quite some time.
  16. Nice to see Wade moving up the list. He was quite a find in the ninth round. I love Walker but the K's are a killer. I think I am on to rooting for Palka. He appears to be a bit more well rounded. Bummer about Thorpe. I have been anxiously awaiting his return. Was hoping he could get himself moved up to high A by the end of the year. With all the past arm problems does this mean Meyer is officially a bullpen arm?
  17. I am hoping there is value at our slot for a High school pitcher. Given the way our pitching is stacking up I think that makes the most sense at least long term. I also wouldn't mind a high school bat there but not sure the value will be there either. It seems like the value will be college pitchers where we pick but who knows how the draft will go. I am OK with a college pitcher there but we could have quite a glut of starters in High A and AA next year. Not a horrible situation but not ideal either. Not in love with a lot of hitters for pick 15, but would like to use second round picks on hitters if value is there as our system is in need of better hitting at most all positions except maybe SS.
  18. I am sure you are right but have the Twins ever had a pitcher with a K9 rate that Chargois has? I don't know how much more Chargois can do to get his shot and I don't know how much more desperate the Twins can get for help in the pen. Considering all the other crazy moves they have made why not Chargois? I guess after the draft we will start to see changes as short season ball starts and they make room for more players.
  19. Wheelhouse pitched almost as well in 2014 and made a believer out of me. I thought he had things figured out back then. Then came 2015 and he really looked bad. Maybe he was injured or something I don't know. All I know is I am not sure who the real Jason Wheeler is as a pitcher. Good to see the strikeouts up but he is still a bit too hittable IMO. Could be a good potential pen arm. I hope he continues to do well because they pretty much picked him over Gilmartin and Gilmartin has done well as a reliever for another team.
  20. I agree that none of us know the exact right time to promote players and the Twins Coaches have a much better feel for that than than the box score fans. However, you start looking at what those guys are doing are high A and you start to wonder what more do they have to learn at that level? It just doesn't even seem challenging for Gonsalves, Stewart and Jorge there. Sure promoting to soon can be detrimental and the jump for pitchers from High A to double A is a tough one but life is full of challenges and risk. In many ways you either sink or swim as you move up. There is a lot of support for players and a lot of these guys have tough mental makeups they aren't really made of glass. Promoting too slow has it's own risks. It can create a sense of over confidence and can stunt growth as the player is no longer challenged. It also wastes the Orgs potential use of that player over time if they make it to the MLB. So there is risk either way. Can't argue on Eides it is just my opinion based on box scores. He has a good game and then a bad game and he gives up a lot of hits. Just seems better suited to the pen to me. Something could click but he seems to have been the same pitcher all the way up so I personally don;t see him changing.
  21. I think you took what he said the wrong way. it seems to me he is simply stating those types of players shouldn't stand in the way of the young pitchers that are showing potential to be number 1, 2 or 3 starters. I don't think he was saying get rid of every pitcher who is a non-prospect. Right now the only interesting prospect pitcher at AA is Slegers and even he looks like a four or five to me. You could say Eides but really in the end he is just too hittable. They really should move him to the pen unless they just want him to be filler. The rest of the spots appear to filled by guys that have peaked and at best would be number 5's. Why have those guys block the prospects with greater potential? You can say it is early in the season and it doesn't matter but these guys are only going to throw so many pitches\innings this year and it makes more sense to challenge them and acclimate them to a new level as soon as possible so that you can decide what they can do at the upper levels and if they are worthy of being added to the forty man or helping the Big club ASAP. A lot of us don't see the point in delaying the young pitchers when there is no one of note blocking them.
  22. I am a big Jay fan but I was worried about early this year. he seemed to giving up really good contact early in the season. Maybe he was working on stuff but he was very hit-able. Lately his result seem more in line with Stewart and Gonsalves. Hoping he has turned a corner but he still has me concerned. It is just his first year in pro ball but he was a high first round pick so am expecting great things.
  23. I like the idea of going High school pitcher in the first round. It should match up well with where our pitching is at at each level. As long as we get some bats in the second round things should even out. We have three picks in the second and we need more productive bats in the system. We should have good pitching at all levels shortly so hopefully we focus on bats in this draft.
  24. Have been a huge fan of Gonsalves since the Twins picked him. If he continues to pitch well he has the best opportunity to move to the big club first as he is left handed and it seems the Twins are always looking to get a lefty or two in the rotation. Really a lot of great pitching prospects in the system right now. That big grouping in High A is gonna push that excellent pitching all the way to AAA and then MLB. Most of those guys look to have the stuff to make it if they don't get injured along the way.
