  1. Good observation - in a league and time when everyone is desperate for RP our DFA squad says a lot about their value.
  2. Has anyone seen Aaron Sabata lately, I understand we once chose him in the first round? I am looking for a lot of movement in the Twins system and am glad Steer and Wallner are getting recognition.
  3. 12 runs in two games against 39 - 43 Texas and we lost both! What is the analysis - they scored 15. What is next? When is that summer win streak supposed to start? And why was Luis not starting. He comes in for one AB and gets one hit!
  4. I just got in to Ketchikan and finally found wifi - I was hoping for better news that this. I love being in first place, but we have not shown the killer instinct against bad teams and I am not seeing us in competition with the Yankees, Dodgers, Astros, Rays, Jays, or Red Sox when the season ends. Please FO do something to change this perspective. I loved seeing Byron back in the field, but twice worried he was injured again and his bat is still HR or nothing. Gordon and Arraez continue to do what we need from them. Jeffers is over .200!!! But SP has now joined RP as a big concern.
  5. Someone has to drive in the runs and our stats for RISP say that the men who get a hit when it counts are extremely important.
  6. “Durability trumps ability,” Bud Grant. Buxton is most valuable when he is in CF. So far he has been in the field 42 games out of 85 - just under half. He has 22 HRs, he is batting 216 and has only a 291 OPS - is that an offensive star? I love Buxton when he gives us the entire package, but with his speed and ability did we really expect this level of play? Glamour weeks and dreadful weeks. I did expect more on the bases too. Expectations are sky high, but he has not come close to meeting them for more than half the games and if they can baby him to 100 games this year he will be far short of 100 defensive games. 8 years 511 games started - an average of 63.
  7. Just keep winning. It is not the team chasing us that matters - it is us taking care of business and building a team strategy that will work in the post season.
  8. It doesn't. He is the pitcher we use when we want to save the arm of the position player who might be asked to cover an inning.
  9. I had the Braves - you have the Brewers. The teams we connect with when we are young stay with us our entire life. Have a wonderful trip.
  10. As much as I hate to do it - Yankees - Mantle, Maris, Berra, Ford or stretching it out - Gehrig, Ruth, Hoyt, Lazzeri, Coombs, Pennock
  11. Time to call Uber Eats and order new BP pitchers - forget the salad.
  12. Thanks - I too have less reliance on Buxton. Great power, great speed - just is not on the field enough, if he is DH his value diminishes. Batting 218 his value diminishes. I want Byron to be a top four, but he is not there now and has been only for a few stretches.
  13. So Pagan read Nick's essay and went to the mound knowing he can save the day - oops. We cannot undo the Rogers trade - I hated it, so we are stuck and have to figure out how this pen can work. It is so hard to see the team unwind from a good series and a good offensive game. I still would have left Ryan in. In the good old days (my days) they let starters figure it out and sometimes they were better at the end than the beginning. We do not have the luxury of using 5 good arms out of the pen. Maybe Duran can learn to pitch with both arms so we can keep him in for two innings - one right, one left. Days off with a days off and it is too much to ask a really good hitter to PH in the 10th???????? Come on now. The 10th inning is when BA really counts and Jeffers is batting 192. And yes, Rocco, it is okay to advance the runner to third! Ryan has to figure out how to hit again, but this is not where he should get batting practice. I have been without internet for a few days here in Alaska so I am catching up and it is fascinating to see so many repeat issues - days off, RP, short starts. I will be off and on for the next couple weeks - will anything change? I hope so.
  14. Great to see Winder, Miranda, Kiriloff doing so well. The youth of the Twins is pushing forward. We need a new SP and a couple RP to emerge, then we have to find a way to bring in Steer. I like the way the future is unfolding. Just keep Winder in the rotation!
  15. The way for Pagan to succeed is to use him in the noncrucial innings. To rely on him is a form of Russian Roulette. I appreciate your optimism Nick, but this is a hard sell.
  16. One problem for the Twins is that every team is now limiting their starters and thus relying on more RP. So the number of RP is spread out through the league and trading for them is more difficult. MLB has created its own problem. When pitchers like Spahn, Marichal, Verlander, Carlton, Morris were in the rotation the need for RP was limited and thus a team could get by with 2 - 3 quality RP. Now we have 6 starters and 7 relievers and need three - four RP per game. Math is not my strong suit, but I believe the crash is apparent. So we continue to bring up AAA and AAAA arms and expect them to be quality arms. No, there needs to be another strategy and it is not the stupid opener - it is long relief, 8 SP, three of which are there to come in and give us 3 - 4 innings at a time, a rotation of these arms like the SP rotation. Very few RP are high quality and so every team anguishes over this.
  17. I am in Alaska and get spotty coverage of both TD and the team. I really appreciate these summaries. This game fits with the batters you trust essay.
  18. Where does Miranda rank now? Like all the other posters I want Arraez first. Buxton does belong here. It's hard for me to rank 4 or 5.
  19. I am delighted to see him get some positive coverage. He has really stepped up for us Whether he is bumped by Lewis or Steer in the future he has shown he belongs in the majors.
  20. Tough loss. I know we still won the series but this is Baltimore and we should be able to score three or more runs. Tired of Wells looks like somebody who is a significant loss for the team that is in need of arms. But good for him.
  21. Winder needs to be a starter. If Archer can only go four innings he is perfect for long relief. Not sure about the other two, but why not?
  22. Along minor league rehab would be great especially if he looks really good in the rehab. Then we have some value, but not very much. It's not just twins daily readers will have seen him flail too many times.
  23. Thielbar had me nervous. It felt like s BP meltdown coming. Thank you Ryan, Arraez and Buxton. Glad to see Miranda continuing to hit.
