  1. I know the new "metrics' thing is all the new wave... but... I am old school... have watched tape on all three and although I like Thorpe Smeltzer are nice and think he still has a chance to be okay... I think Duran and Balazovic have a chance to be special .... don't see that with either Thorpe or Smeltzer... both likely to be long men for the rest of their career.
  2. Respectfully Cody you are WAY off course. We actually have very little need at this point as the only real concern on the offense is the DH and if need can fill from within... As far as pitching we have 3/5 starter pretty set. Dobnak is the 4th and have a slew of arms right on the cusp of being ready. Have plenty of arms for the bullpen also. With that being said there are literally hundreds of FA that we will have a shot at so be worried... not at all ... instead am VERY confident that we are doing just what we should be doing... waiting and making some minor league invites. We will have several nice signings after the first when players will be looking to find a home.
  3. See that Castillo from Cincy is also on the block... depending on what they would want that would be a blockbuster that would be a great addition...
  4. Ken was bored.... not happening. Have controllable high end talent in the system that allows the team to be contenders for the long haul. Don't see us getting Story or Lindor. More likely the names that we have mentioned here that are decent stop gaps at reasonable prices. This front office has been smart ..... don't see that changing draining the minor league quality depth for a short term player...
  5. Would love Bauer like everyone else but not seeing Pohlad dropping 30 mil per for 4-5 years. Guessing that is what it will take. Would love it but not seeing it... Would like DD to come over and play short.. great defense.. nice bat with some pop. Let Polanco be the super utility guy ... know he can play SS, 2B and 3B... keeping him healthy and his bat will be strong. Pitching wise guessing we find 3-5 good relievers that are inexpensive... 1 or 2 reclamation projects to bridge to our pitching studs coming up... as far as lurking for something big... we can all hope! Just not sure what we need other than pitching....
  6. Need to give Donaldson a day off about 2x per week... to keep him healthy.... He is a top notch defensive and offensive player when healthy. Don't see anything promising in the system at this time unless Keoni Cavaco shows that he can play.... otherwise we will need to find someone on the FA heap when Donaldsons contract is up... hopefully he doesn't fall apart .....
  7. I take it you have never been in business..... just giving the employees their requests with something coming back is not great business and over time will be a problem for the owner of the establishment. I like others love baseball "the game".... but we have to be real and understand that just going out and risking recourses without responsibility is just not smart. Don't be emotional about this ... is just part of the deal. We should be happy as our current ownership and front office have shown to be fiscally responsible while still putting a very competitive team on the field....
  8. .... this is a business and both sides are negotiating. Period end of story. Not announcing the DH is directly about expanding playoffs.... more money for older players with the DH and more money for the owners with the expanded playoffs. The drama is par for the course.... stop with all the drama and baseball not caring about fans.... they do... but business is business.
  9. Don't think that production vs cost is worth his value at this point.
  10. Not worried about the bullpen. We have some nice arms coming up and with Rogers, Duffy, Alcala, Stashak and Colina there to be the core we are okay. Literally a hundred relief pitchers out there. They will do there homework with some metric magic and find a few guys cheap that will do fine... Do need one good if not great starter and we are pretty set. Would be nice to spend on Nellie.. 2 year deal with a mutual option for the second year ought to get it done.... Lots of options for the utility guys.. just depends on costs... value...
  11. Would guess he would want at least 2 years... so 3 year deal... at 12 mil per. With the third year being a team option. Or .... just let this play out... trade him at the trade deadline and bring up his replacement.... one of our young studs.... His call. Take it or we move on...
  12. Pitching depth is always something EVERY team needs. If we could get Wacha on a 2 year deal for say 8 million... do it. Injuries always play a part... so having a veteran to pick up innings would be a very smart thing. We all would like a top end pitcher but realistically we aren't going to get them here most likely.... We have some great prospects coming and they may be ready this year... or not..
  13. Really don't see the issue here.... Garver and Jeffers both home grown .... quality catchers and cheap. Astudilo at AAA or on the bench as a ulility guy. Next issue....
  14. Celestino is a much better option and is already on our 40 man roster. GREAT defensive CF and his offense is coming around. Might not be ready this year but.. There will be a ton of cuts coming up so NO need to give up any pitching assets for a defensive OF.... just not needed...
  15. Would like Odo to come back.... 3 year deal for say 25 year per season ... 3rd year player option 4th year team option... I think would be pretty fair. Keep Cruz... extend one year with second year a team option.... Hill and Bailey is a wait and see... have no idea what we may get. Seems like a filler for just this year.... Gonzo is likely gone... Blankenhorn and or Gordan may be replacing the the utility guys... Blankenhorn steps up a bit he may get a look at a full time gig somewhere. Love to keep May around but will all depend on what he is wanting.. Have plenty of arms coming up that can possibly take his spot... and cheap.... If I was a betting man I would say Cruz and May likely stay and the rest are somewhere else next year....
  16. Not sure I agree.... V1 we gave up one prospect and got who we wanted. Clean crisp. V2 we give up same top prospect ... a quality depth player that can handle Of and 1B as well as a high draft pick... in return for same guy ... a catcher with a poor minor league record and cash. I would rather have the pick back and Raley. If the catcher had been a quality arm that was in a ball... maybe okay but prefer V1 Glad we got our guy though....
  17. Would all depend on what LA would want for Maeda ... if we could get him for less of a cost ... heck yah! Going to be an interesting next couple of days.
  18. Guessing Boston got all the kickback and "made up" extra concerns knowing that he had medicals that showed his past issues.... knowing LA wants this to go badly I would not be surprised if they add one of their own to get it done. Interesting and encouraging that the FO has not budged.
  19. Great day! have Maeda at a bargain price of 3 mil for the next 4 years. Love Gratarol like most but getting an established player that is more of a 2 or 3 .. trade is good for the Twins. Still have some stud arms on the way ... all is good.
  20. As many of us had stated we were going to sign a low risk - (hopefully) high reward. My guess is we will sign at least one more of this type pitcher. Having as many options as possible is what the FO should and has been doing. One more minor league contract for a major league vet would be nice and pick from as the spring training goes. Nice job FO....
  21. If the price were minor leaguers that we are deep at a position say OF I would be good. Celestino as they are needing a CF.... Catarino for a quality SP prospect and Gordon who isn't going to stick for us but could be useful to them. Would think that would get Archer. Kind of like that Trade simulator thing... 9.0 for Archer trade value.... the Three together we send at 9.6.... so according to the simulator it would be fair value. Not sure either team would do it but...
  22. With spring training around the corner there is still plenty of time to make a deal. Archer is going to be costly as he has a big name.. but the production hasn't matched his abilities yet. He also has a favorable salary at 9 mil in 21' and 11 mil in 22. So we would be trading for 2 years for whatever assets we would be giving up... I do believe there will be other options out there but not likely with the talent of Archer.
