Lots of fans are looking for the "big splash" which I understand and would have loved but keeping your own quality guys and developing them (ie Tampa Bay) allows a smaller market team to consistently be competitive. Getting short term deals with players and then moving them for top prospects or young players on the cusp is what we should be doing. We did it last year and it paid off tremendously.. Walker on a 2 year deal... Trade Rosario for a quality pitcher and we should be good to go....

Have been hoping we would sign Walker... still young and had great stuff when healthy. 2 year deal similar to Pineda would make a ton of sense. Has a chance to be a quality arm with the upside of a 2 or 3... floor of a 5 guy or long guy. Should be reasonable.

So the FO has been there three years have had the team in the playoffs 2 of the three years winning the second most in team history and coming off a great season and we are complaining? As I have stated we do need an ace to get to the next level but they are extremely hard to come by. We will need to trade for one or develop one ... so yes zero post season wins the past three years. Guessing there are about 25-28 teams and their fans that would trade places in a second.

Respectfully your logic is flawed. So they help us get to over 100 wins and are two of the better FA pitchers out there... if we don't sign them we are looking at "worse" options or inexperienced system minor leaguers. If treading water is 100 wins count me in....

Interesting view... So the Twins sign the 9th best overall (according to ESPN) FA a pitcher... and the 15th overall FA also a pitcher.... worked to get 2 other FA pitchers that signed elsewhere for Horse reason (Bum) and was given a 4 year contract with major medical concerns (thanks for being responsible FO)... Signed a quality backup catcher... Signed Romo and Clippard to help our improving relief corp..... and according to some are in the final two for Donaldson.... We just came off a 101 win season and have the manager of the year ... and folks act like we have a bunch of bums ... Grinch get to your house and steal your trees?

I would be good with either.... Would fit nicely into the rotation. Would clearly depend on what kind of return they would need. Although there is not likely an "ace" to be had there is still some pitchers that could help us out there on the trade market as well as FA market... The front office is likely working on Ryu and Donaldson right now which would determine what still needs to be done. We are fine... the sky is not falling....

Evidently folks don't understand how the FA market works. Top end FA are going to go to top teams in Large markets or go to places that they have history or interest in .... Baumgarner to Arizona because his horses are there... Wow. Front office is working to try to land the talent but if the agent and or player doesn't think it is a fit they are going to go elsewhere. There is a reason why players tend not to come to MN.. past has been $ but also the spring weather... Likely going to need to spin a trade for a starter and use our depth in the minor league to fill the gaps or to be part of the trade. Folks this is the reality and has been for years.. getting pissed at the Front office for not getting Cole, Strasburg, etc is pointless and beyond what anyone in that position is going to be able to do. Sucks but is true....

As 5th starters you go to your depth to develop starters. Then you go to Smeltzer, Grateral, etc.... Spend the money on a high end pitcher that can help the front of the rotation and let the prospects take care of the 5th spot. How are we ever going to develop pitchers at the major league level if we don't give them a shot?

May want to check your stats... Per baseball reference. Dobnak had ... 28.1 innings pitched... 9 appearances 5 starts ERA 1.59 and whip of 1.129... Would love to find a Ryu to head the staff but Dobnak at the 5 is going to be fine.

Yuck.... please no. Lewis just around the corner to play short... put Polanco at 3rd where he should be fine and his defense would be fine. Don't panic folks. Donaldson would be fine as he could go over to first if needed and Sano to DH after next year. Biggest need is Bumgarner.... period. Get it done guys we need that top of rotation guy that can beat someone in the playoffs.... overspend please.

Only way I would take on Price for that "price" is kind of like the NBA trades.. will take that bad contract if there is something that comes with it.... Price and one of the killer B's would do it. Send Rosario back to them with a low level quality prospect.....

Nice clean article and pretty much right on target. I tell my baseball freinds that Twin's are going to have a tough time advancing in the playoffs unless they get an ace. They are actively romancing Bumgarner... and Ryu. Everyone in baseball knew we weren't getting Cole or Strasburg. Not sure why the negative nellies are even more negative. We signed 2 good FA pitchers.. just happens they were our own. Still a trade for a young quality arm is more likely than anything and do not forget we have several quality arms in the minor leaguers... that is more like what we are going to be doing for the future. Stop thinking we are going to "outspend" the Goliath spending teams... just has never happened and never will. It's okay.. it's life in a small market town.

Odo ..... 17 mil 3 years..... should be good as he has stated he likes it here... Pineda.... showed he is back... owes us... should be fairly reasonable... 2 years at 11 mil is what some have stated... the Three would cost at these rates 58 mil to the payroll... not cheap but do believe it puts us in a good spot. As pretty much the Theme here... ALL IN in getting top end pitching. Need to sign one of the top stud pitchers. Of course Cole would be mine and everyone's priority. Love Rendon but not at the cost of not getting the best pitchers on the market. Our lineup is fine as is....

Need to BREAK the bank on an ace and if possible 2. If that means trading a top minor leaguer so be it. Our everyday lineup is great the way it is. We need top end pitching to go anywhere beyond Division winners... Which was great but.... Beating the Astro's or Yankees will take Studs at the top of our rotation. Which we now lack.

MOST important is Cole ... give him a blank check.... 6 years 240Mil?? Have to have an ace to get anywhere in the post season. He and Barrios are a good 1/2 puch. Hopefully Odorizzi will want to stay and do a reasonable contract... 3 year deal? 45 mil? Can fill in the 4/5 spot after that. Odo as a 3 is where we need to be if we are "serious" about getting to the Series.

Understand the love for Davis but he is no longer a Twin so... makes little sense he be on the list. There are others "still" in our organization that are deserving and would mean a bunch to them...
