  1. I've gone on record here about why I don't like Pablo Lopez in a trade for the Twins (poor ERA after start #7 last year, his only healthy season, not amazing "stuff" etc.). I'm very tempted by some of their younger starters though... Trevor Rogers, Jesus Luzardo, Edward Cabrera (would love to also get Max Meyer or Sixto Sanchez as a 2nd piece for 2024 and beyond). I'm not going to piece together a package for people to scrutinize but if Luis Arraez is the cost, then these are the names that I want in place of Pablo Lopez.
  2. Regarding Gallo, the thing people don't mention often is that, despite his down season with the bat the last year-plus, he was the best LF on the market and still carried a plus WAR. I've been down on the move because I don't think that they needed to take a chance on him, but, honestly a one year contract is low risk and he's incentivized to perform well this season to get paid next off-season.
  3. I still feel health is what will make the Twins better this season, but also addition by subtraction is in play here. In two ways. 1. Sano and Sanchez are gone. Gallo is here, yes, but that's one .200 high strikeout player, not two. Plus Gallo can be an upgrade in getting on base and defensively if he rebounds at all. 2. Correa's return means the Twins don't lose his bat and glove, which is crucial. It means that Farmer is infield depth and might even allow them to move an IF via trade. But, really, not losing him means that they didn't downgrade. Looking forward to your Podcast on this, Nash.
  4. Which, oddly enough, is a 50/50 proposition for Correa based on track record to date. Take out COVID season and shortened rookie call up season, and he's done it 3 times in 6 seasons.
  5. Awesome! Things couldn't have worked out any better for the Twins. This should not be a blueprint for signing top free agents though. Let's hope his ankle holds up long enough and the FO is motivated to supplement this with additional roster improvements. I'd actually like them to keep Kepler now and roll out an OF defense of Buxton/Gallo/Kepler. That's legitimately a strong OF defensively.
  6. Gross. Rather they stand pat than add that junk baller. Speaking of players well past their prime.
  7. If we move past all that other "stuff" about Bauer, what would the Twins really be getting? He's wildly inconsistent. Do you get the 4.50 ERA guy, the 6.4 ERA guy with the Reds in 2019, or the Cy Young pitcher of 2020? He's still a rotten teammate, by all accounts And, of course, he hasn't pitched professional ball for almost 2 seasons now.
  8. I'd definitely welcome Chris Sale here, though not so sure about taking on all of the remaining contract dollars. His fall hasn't been due to productivity but rather, injury. His health is the only risk, but it is a big one. The upside is only worth it if the cost is low.
  9. This is spot on. I'm more concerned about the damage to the sport that a competitive spending imbalance creates than rich owners wisely checking in on their investments. I know that they are two separate issues, but to Steve71's point, MLB has bigger issues. The only "issues" that need to be discussed are how liable an owner, team executive, or "source" is for sharing medical information with the press before pen is put to paper. Correa has a legitimate gripe if the Mets and Giants owners leaked his medical information to drive the cost down. But, again, I am less concerned about any of that. Teams diminish players' accomplishments all the time in arbitration to get a better price -- though we rarely hear the arguments made to the arbitrators -- or at least I have never seen them made publicly.
  10. I hope he has a speedy and full recovery. He's a character. Good for the game.
  11. I said that I would "dance, and sing, and leap for joy, and I don't care who is watching" ... But then, I do that every night before the nurses administer my meds. ?
  12. I believe Albert Belle had an arthritic hip.
  13. I hope your sources are correct, so we can put all this to rest, the Twins get their SS and I can go buy a #4 Correa jersey.
  14. If I had to speculate, and that is all any of us can do at this point, Correa doesn't want to move much off the length of contract. That's just a guess though.
  15. Even though you're speaking on behalf of the player, I hear your point. In this situation, however, it's a fair question. Is he just settling? Does he think his value is higher and will sulk or seek a trade? Or simply underperform? Correa doesn't seem hardwired that way, but it is a reasonable question.
  16. Sincere question... not trolling. I'm new here so I don't know everyone. Are you connected to the team, somehow?
  17. If they do sign him, I just hope he WANTS to be here. Clearly, he'd have preferred the Mets. The Twins don't need another Tommy Herr situation.
  18. Not really sure what that means? What's wrong with having a relationship with Boras? He's got all the nice toys.
  19. The problem with Reyes is that I think he's damaged goods. In 2021 when he was an All-Star, if I recall correctly, he had a rough second half and has had sporadic control issues. The Cardinals are a smart organization and let him go at the expense of what would have only been a cheap salary ($3M) and a spot on the 40 man roster. That tells me they obviously have moved on, yes, but also that they no longer see the value. He's been in their organization since 2013 and has had health issues almost annually -- pitching half of his 145 MLB innings in 2021, where he was only effective for half that season. Having said all that, I would definitely take a flier on him if he'd accept a MiLB deal. Which I highly doubt.
  20. I want Correa here, but this roller coaster has exhausted me.
