  1. Jose Berrios was bad last year, after coming out of Spring Training with a dead arm. I believe his career ERA is over 4.2. He's always been that guy that looks amazing, with great horizontal movement on his pitches(was it a 4 seamer or sinker? I don't recall, but it looked like a slider at times). Then he had these blowups every 4th or 5th start. I kept thinking that one of these seasons he was going to put it all together and win a Cy Young. After last season, I no longer think that. He is what he is. He has great stuff. An innings eater that will get quality starts, some Ks and rocked often enough to leave you scratching your head. Just enough talent to get paid like a front-of-the-rotation starter. Just enough inconsistency that you don't want to roll into a playoff series needing him to win as your #1.
  2. I agree that he's not a bad player. I remember having this discussion with people regarding Mark McGwire in 1991, Wade Boggs in 1992, Frank Thomas in 1998, etc. I don't know that I would take the risk on him though. Certainly a new and interesting idea that I hadn't seen yet.
  3. True and a fallback for him could eventually be a strong bullpen arm.
  4. I agree with you on Sale. He's been one of my favorite players in baseball since his rookie year. There was a thread duscussing it last week and the general consensus was that most in this forum didn't want him. I think it was in response to an article that Nick Nelson wrote. I think Boston is open to trading him, but it would all depend on the distribution of salary.
  5. It's definitely an off the wall idea, I've seen each of these names thrown out on this forum over the past few weeks. As you all know, 6 or 7 man rotations can easily be 2 by the season's end. Heck, the Dodgers going into the season with Bauer in 2021 were looking like an over-crowded rotation. By season's end only 2 starters had not missed time at some point. And, of course, last season our Twins were trying to figure out how to accommodate 6 starters after the trade for Paddack (who I also like). If not these 8, perhaps a few changes but conceptually, I wonder if it could work. Seems like it could be a unique situation with this group, because some may be on an innings limit as they return from significant missed time last year. Piggy backing some of these guys could work. Or it could be a colossal failure. Anyway, it was more meant for fun than a serious idea. And I agree on Bauer. I'd have attitude concerns.
  6. ... throw it all at wall and see what sticks. ? Seriously though... could you get 5 deep all season with (I have my doubts): Bauer Lopez Gray Sale Mahle Ryan Maeda Ober Let Rocco do his thing. Rather than 5 pitchers, you got 8 to get your 900 innings. Ha! Sorry... was just thinking of the most wild thing that they could do right now. Maybe Wacha in place of one.
  7. Good, they shouldn't include Arraez for a pitcher that was bad after his 7th start last year, in his only healthy season no less, and doesn't have amazing stuff. Pablo Lopez is a depth piece, not an impact frontline starter like many seem to think that he is.
  8. Interesting take. Baez is a guy that's not even on my radar. Hypothetically, if the Twins were to trade for him, where do you see them playing him? I guess he could DH but that seems a waste of his glove. Or play him at 3rd, move Miranda to 1B and Arraez to DH? Just curious what your thoughts are on Baez?
  9. I'm operating under the premise that they use him to get MLB ready value or hold him. The Twins could create value if they use him as a second piece to land a starting pitcher. His drop in homeruns could be approach, but I think the balls were different in 2019.
  10. Where we at with him? Personally, I like the OF with Buxton, Kepler, Gallo but obviously there has been some speculation about him being shipped to a team like the Yankees. Now that the Twins have actually had a solid off-season with the addition of Carlos Correa, does everyone want him traded? Who could they reasonably get from the Yankees? Gleyber Torres would be a nice addition, but last I heard the Yankees have decided to keep him now. I'd love to get Gleyber in a package that includes Kepler and Polanco. That's only a lazy man's dream, since I haven't worked out how realistic it would be on either side.
  11. I would imagine it would depend on who becomes available to the Twins. Obviously, I can only speculate like the rest of you but if, for some odd reason, Corbin Burnes or Logan Webb were to become available to them, I think they'd find a way to make it work. The won't be, but I was struggling for an example off the top of my head. (I've always liked Ketel Marte, how's that for a random name?) How high? I guess I don't know. I doubt they're taking on Mike Trout or Gerrit Cole (again, in Bizarro World). They probably have room for one more solid addition like Michael Wacha (and, yes, he IS solid), barring a trade.
  12. I agree. I just imagine him in this clubhouse and it seems kike he'd fit very well.
  13. I agree with most of what you're saying here, but when I said that they were way below market value, it's because they were. I don't care about AAV, one team was willing to pay him $350M and another $315. They were way under market value. Yes, we could split hairs about whether or not the Giants were way over value, but I think the Mets were the sweet spot. $300M at least was expected and, in the end, if not for extraordinary circumstances, even that was no higher than 3rd. Correa is better than Xander and right up there with Trea (better in many regards). Trea cleared $300M, Xander was closer than I expected.
  14. I'd love to see the man in the Hall of Fame. Probably won't get there because of the roids back in his Rangers days, but the dude etched a place on my ballot (I don't have one) after 2019 alone.
  15. I'm more interested in these kinds of moves if they're supplemental moves. I don't want to wear a bunch of accessories with no suit to match. Now that the Twins have their Armani, sure let's start looking at adding some depth. Wacha wouldn't be my first choice but if he's a reasonable price. I'd rather the Twins trade for a top of rotation starter though.
  16. I'll have the Garlick Pagan with a side of toast... On second though, just bring me a Gallo. Vintage, please.
  17. I agree on Correa. He repeatedly stated how he only focused on things that he could control, such as his conditioning, during the process. But what REALLY made me happy was hearing that all of the Twins players texted him after the agreement was announced and how he and Buxton stayed in constant communication. He very clearly has the respect of that clubhouse. Regarding Boras, I expected to have the same reaction as you but I was pleasantly surprised on that front. He seems to genuinely care about representing his clients. I think that's genuine. Yes, he makes money but there's a reason why he's so successful. I seems like he genuinely considers it a privilege to represent world class athletes and their families. I don't think you could have-arse that and be so successful. I'm glad I watched it because I came away impressed with Boras, Correa and Falvey. And Falvey made a great point also in that this was an excellent baptism by fire for the newest Pohlad. On that front, when Pohlad was asked if there are more to come and he said that the team would take it on a case by case basis, I guess I would have liked to have seen a more encouraging answer there to build on the fan's goodwill at the moment, but at least he was honest.
  18. I just watched the presser and it was fascinating to see how relationships are developed and deals get done. To that end, my criticism of the FO is muted somewhat. I heard Boras and Falvey talk about how Falvey was in constant communication, even when agreements were already in place. Yes, their initial offer was way under market and that's why I don't let them off the hook because this signing worked out due to extraordinary circumstances. They would have lost the player, but in the same respect they didn't throw out a massive contract and pull it back. That can be equally if not more damaging to a fan base. The Mets will be fine with their cavalcade of stars. Corrrea was just the cherry on top for them. But Giants fans needed a superstar and have got to be extremely disappointed. Glad it got done.
  19. Yes, they should if he's available. He had some back issues last year that might have been the reason for a slight hiccup in late May into June. Missed some time with it, but has great stuff and had a nice season for the Pirates. I'd love to see him in the Twins bullpen.
  20. That would be part of the fun for me. I love watching some Twins fans in this forum cry about the many ways in which they do not want to have super-star players on their team.
  21. Just as much as it would take, possibly more that it would take, to get Alcantara. A year ago? Maybe. The secret is out on Gallen after his amazing season this past year. He's an upper tire pitcher, just like Alcantara.
  22. Oh please. Now you're confusing players that did bad or unethical things with a person that is disliked by his teammates. These guys may have cheated or been surly but with the exception of A-Rod they were either respected or loved by their teammates, Not undermining snakes with toxic personalities that disrupt team chemistry. Barry Bonds was loved by his teammates, with the exception of Jeff Kent -- who was, by all accounts a grade-A jerk. And those teams won nothing. Manny Ramirez was also very well liked. A-Rod? Perfect example of how he held a team back that could (should) have won many championships. But even then, the level to which he was a toxic teammate was vastly overstated by the New York media. Kevin Brown? No. And are you seriously comparing those guys to an accused rapist with a history of being disliked by teammates? Give me a break. A toxic personality is not good for any team, sports or otherwise. And there's a huge difference between a toxic person and a person that cheats. Bauer just so happens to be both.
  23. I think you're missing the point. Nobody ever wins with a bad clubhouse.
  24. I don't agree that clubhouse vibes are overrated. Sure, a great clubhouse doesn't guarantee winning. But it only takes one bad seed to create a toxic one and a bad clubhouse very rarely, if ever, leads to success.
  25. I would do this in a heartbeat if Miami would consider it. You could easily use Farmer and/or some combination of Harrison, Gurriel, Belt, Reynolds (via trade) to replace the lost bats. Or heck see what the Yankees need for Gleyber.
