  1. The "fly in the ointment" to the relief pitching match-up ploy (that was excessively used this year) is that NY won't have 11 or 12 pitchers--probably only 7 or 8. The rest of the roster will be position players allowing frequent use of pinch-hitters nullifying the strategy of using a "marginal" LH pitcher to get one out.
  2. Game on! Kluber: 4-1 2.0 ERA in last 5 Bauer: 5-0 2.67 ERA in last 5 Clevinger: 3-1 +1 ND 2.16 ERA in last 5 Carrasco: 3-1 +1 ND 2.02 EWRA in last 5 Tomlin: 4-0 +1 ND 2.54 in last 5 I stopped looking--there might be more.
  3. Or, maybe the players got tired of getting their butts kicked and began playing to "their level"?
  4. Relax, so the bullpen sucks--they were going to lose tonight anyway. Think of this as KC's 17-0 loss--they bounced back--so can the Twins.
  5. I am curious to see how posters blame Molitor and Falvine for tonight--but I am confident they will do it.
  6. I see different things: a blog that is almost a "fan club"--stopping short of asking for a credit card to buy votive candles and "inside access" and a dying media outlet desperate to maintain circulation in order to maximize advertising revenue. At least the contrast of tone gives rise to some semblance of reality in "Twinsville".
  7. Garver at 1B dovetails nicely with decisions like: D, Santana, Escobar, or Sano in the OF, and Gimenez at P. "Flexibility." Oh, I forgot (probably because no TD poster has mentioned it for awhile...) Mauer at 3B.
  8. Will Tyler Duffy pitch in this series? We use Canadian bacon in the U.S.--and no one is upset about that.
  9. The bickering about the use of Boshers... This bullpen is full of losers, Keep tossing a new RP in the game and you'll find one. Sure Boshers got nailed--but I've seen him get two consecutive outs with two on in a close game not long ago. This bullpen is a crapshoot--literally! Put better players on the team! But also remember the other teams use professional players too--sometimes they will succeed and even faced by a pitched who is also RH.
  10. The manager's job is to be the face of management. He reflects the team's philosophy, character, and personality. Can/does Molitor carry said values and lead the players to carry them out? How "in touch" is Molitor with the players (and they with him)? Is this the making of the planned "team of the future"?--or is the 2017 simply a transition from the past? If this is merely a "transition team" then Molitor's tenure is near it's end and is ready to be replaced by the "new". IMO, to replace Molitor with an "in-house" guy indicates that change was never intended--simply the appearance of change was the plan. I hope that that was not the plan.
  11. The Twins went "outside" to redirect their organization, this trend should continue. The "old gang" created the mess continue the change. The public is looking for excitement--not "hope". The "ya never know" mentality has been worn-out. The new standard in professional sports is the "super team"--and that's what will be needed to create the requisite excitement.
  12. Extend Dozier? For how much? At what level do you say No. I don't see hundreds of thousands of shirts with Dozier's name on them happening. If he demands a huge contract--will he generate the revenue to support it? Mauer did, but I don't see Dozier as an heir-apparent to Mauer as "the chosen one". Several posts have shown Dozier's statistics to show him as very much in the middle--as a 2B--but not as "the big gun". A middle-of-the-pack 2B can be had without a premium contract. It would make more sense to spend the "big money" on a "Slugger" DH or a solid #2 starting pitcher than on Brian Dozier.
  13. "Win with Dozier and Mauer"? Please define "Win." 82 wins, #2 Wild Card?, A.L. Central Division? The World Series? (or a least get there)? As we observed the Twins were badly out-classed by LA, HOU, and BOS. So, it's safe to say "Forget the World Series"--but the others, sure.
  14. Not True. They did try in 2010--but failed. The failure to develop top pitching internally proved their undoing--considering they were never going to spend to the level necessary to actually buy it. In fact that development failure continued and when they did start to buy pitching--well you know the rest.
  15. Ignoring facts of the game: Gomez was deliberately "plunked" and Escobar "ole`d" that bouncing ball up 3B line--he should have got in front of it and at least keep the ball in the infield.
  16. Players also assess the probability that there new team will make the playoffs. I'm confident that ATL was considered "unlikely" to be a playoff team this season--yet they had to pay ~$12MM to sign Colon. What if the Twins outbid ATL? Now what would people say/think? I'm guessing not many would say: "no such thing as a bad 1-year contract."
  17. ...and then we would have read endless posts about how these guys were blocking the young, power arms from the upper minors.
