Of all the stat leaders (top 5) - Which guys do you see sustaining their numbers / performance rate for most of the season? Providing all stay healthy. Are any of the numbers not sustainable?

Article: Young Arms Flourishing In Twins' System
lightfoot789 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't be surprised to see Duffy get promoted to AAA before Berrios. He has done so every season and with great success. Any word on his higher drafted college teammate Chargois? or higher drafted 2012 classmate Bard and Melotakis? Duffy could be one of those steals of the draft. Gets it done! -
Walker had 44 BB last year in High A and that was more than everyone on either of the Twins AA & AAA teams (except Romero). That number would have ranked him 4th on the Twins MLB team last year. Still a work in progress but lets put things in perspective. He is getting better. His K Rate in 2013 was 20.8% (Not bad for a power hitter). I believe he can get back to that since he has shown he could do it before. We all assume what these kids are trying to work on, but no one really knows what these coaches are asking them to work on too. It would be nice to know what the system plan is for these kids each part of a season, before we pass assumptions. I'm guilty as well.

For what it is worth - Arcia had a .375 Career Minor League OBP (7 seasons). Sometimes the obvious outcome isn't always the obvious outcome. Now he sports a .304 OBP in the MLB. Who here would have figured that and if so why? Mauer's OBP stayed similar from the minors to majors. Torri spent 3 years in AA and his second season in AA resulted in a .305 OBP. Sometimes the obvious outcome isn't always the obvious outcome. Torri's first 4 years in the MLB resulted in a .316; .309; .318; & .306 OBP respectively thru those years. He now sports a career .334 OBP. Players evolve every year and when it clicks - BAM - you have yourself a 10+ year vet. We need patience with all these young prospects.

Today he would get killed by Major league pitching. In the near future, I'm not so sure. The same thing has been said about him since the Draft and Rookie ball. All he does is continue to help his teams win games. Not just an OBP guy who never seems to pass second base. By your theory - Polanco doesn't have a chance. He has less walks than Walker .

I agree that 5 weeks isn't enough to change rankings. I appreciate everything you wrote. My assessment of Zach is that I always thought him a Top prospect. Inconsistencies and all, because all he did was win at every level. And with amazing stuff. Love reading this stuff and hearing counter points.

My Chattanooga Boys are representing well this season. I have to say - I think Duffy's stat line is worthy of a "Slightly Up" grading. He has the best Whip on the staff and his K's are second only to Berrios. Also a 2.76 ERA ain't so bad. Great to see Kepler off to great start. Just hoping he stays consistent and healthy for the entire season. His swing is amazing. Walker is up to 8 doubles and is starting to put up numbers like he had in Cedar Rapids 2 years ago. Now if he can just curb those K's some. The most exciting thing for me about Walker this year is that 5 of his 9 HRs are to the opposite field. Batting 3 thru 6 is middle of the order. Batting 7th is at the back of the order IMO. Harrison has a steady approach at the plate and will fight for the Doubles title at seasons end again this year. Great eye around the zone helps with his excellent OBP. Turner is arguably the best defensive catcher in minors. 39% is ridiculous! Reed is starting to look like the Reed of old. I wouldn't be scared to put him in during a close game anymore. Righting that Ship. For the Record - No Way Zach Jones shouldn't be a Top 20 guy.

Nice Article in Chattanooga newspaper on Max Kepler as he is tearing up the ball lately. He is having a Player of the Week kind of series in Birmingham. http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/sports/professional/story/2015/may/12/berlin-born-lookout-max-kepler-enjoying/303665/

It was Berrios all day until Malone finished his game. You have to go with Malone if you aren't going to penalize him for being a major leaguer. Berrios was awesome as well and is light years younger.

Definite Pros and Cons PROs His total career minor stats translate to the following thru an 162 game yearly schedule: 35 HRs - 125 RBI - 103 RUNS - 311 TOTAL BASES CONs 182 SO - 47 BB - .310 OBP MLB TWINS in 2014 Top Statistical Numbers 23 HRs - 80 RBI - 112 RUNS - 249 TOTAL BASES 129 SO - Plouffe was third on team with 53 BB (to put in perspective) Take away from his usual averages - 12 HRs and 45 RBIs and 62 TBs and he equals our best player from last year statistically. Santana was second on team with 70 RUNs scored. Now imagine if he can figure out AA over the next 2 years. Patience

ABWII 2nd to Buxton on team in SLG%; Total Bases; & RBI. 1st in HRs and 3rd in Doubles Typical ABWII season except for the fact that he is usually 1st or second on team in runs scored. This year he is 3 behind second place Sano. The question becomes: Can we live with him leading the league in HRs every year (or amongst the Top) and RBI, but sporting a low BA and OBP? For many the answer is still no. "He won't be able to do the same thing at AAA / next level" Bottom line is when he does what he does - His teams win. Because of awesome team talent and key contributions from him. It's who he is.

Chattanooga should bring up the guy who was an All Star pitcher for Ft. Myers last year and one of their aces all the way to the championship. Brett Lee earned a promotion from his performance last year (10+ wins) and should have been with the Lookouts out of spring training. Lee has been a major factor in that groups winning ways for the last 3 years.

I would love to know the hitting approach minor league directors and managers have for each prospect. It would probably explain a lot in terms of how and why prospects do what they do. I think everybody would be excited if he hit 10% walk rate.

http://www.local8now.com/sports/headlines/Lookouts-top-Smokies-5-3-301507621.html 3rd Home Run to opposite field this season. Surprisingly hit 4th this game instead of 7th. Big win despite not playing Sano - Polanco and Harrison. I expect those 3 players to comeback recharged and lead the Lookouts to a series win Tuesday and Wednesday. Great game by Berrios. Zach Jones is a stud and most underrated player of the Twins bullpen prospects.

Lookouts just got deadlier with the addition of Kepler today. Question of the day is: Where does he play and why in your opinion?................................. Just curious as to what all of us "want to be" GMs / Managers would do with this Chattanooga Lineup now?

Buxton at 32% Sano at 33% Harrison at 33% I'd like to think they all end up improving as they become familiar with AA pitching.

The good part is that this is AA and is expected to be a huge learning curve. Starting off with high Ks is not as alarming as finishing season at same rate. You're right. Everything is small sample size.

Buxton, Polanco, Turner, and Walker have only 1 walk. Walkers track record is much worse in that category but his production record (Runs/RBI/HRs) overall is much better. He's the type of prospect that you will probably have to take the good with the bad. The good part is he is doing what he normally does right now, but with his best start of season (.303 BA) ever. To piggyback on above comment, Walker actually leads all AA leagues in Homers thru 8 games. Good start. "I'm Out"

Article: For Young Hitters The Struggle Is Real
lightfoot789 replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great read. How much of that is emphasized in AA or AAA? Or do they wait to see if player can adjust on their own? My biggest question is How much video is shown to minor leaguers and are they taught how to watch film? Film is the biggest teaching tool in sports. In baseball it seems to be only emphasized at the MLB level. You never hear about minor league fim sessions with coaches. At least not like other sports. IMO
