  1. IMO for what it is worth I bet Lew was the kind of guy that thought 'I can't believe I am getting paid the kind of money I am to play a kids game' Based on where he has played I would say you can't argue his love of playing baseball. I play in an over 35 town team baseball league. It is a blast. I will be 42 this year myself. Hopefully more years of playing to come. Congrats on the continued longevity in the game Lew!
  2. Gardy's look would have been priceless to get in a photo. One can only imagine what was racing through his brain when Lew said they met online.
  3. However you slice it he is playing very solid ball...here is to Jorge keeping it up as best he can! He is certainly on a red hot pace. Twins have themselves a very good player under contract for years to come! Win Twins.
  4. Here is my few cents worth...on the hitting side of the fence the I believe the staff is telling the hitters 'if that 1st pitch is THE pitch for you SWING"....beyond that continue to work the count and believe in yourself to be a good 2 strike hitter...to other people's point that is one area Mauer excelled in (2 strike hitting)...not very often (without any exact stats) to back it up did it seem our hitters in recent memory took that swing early approach...again not exact stats to back it up but it the games have the feel to them that our favorite 9 is swinging early if the pitch is in the happy zone...no one seems to be panicking if they are down 0-1,0-2 or 1-2...on the other side if they are up in the count they aren't swinging just to swing...they are working the count and are also making the pitcher bring a pitch in the zone they are most comfortable with. Rambling over...WIN TWINS
  5. Here is to hoping this FINALLY will be the wake up call Sano needs...hopefully Cruz, Gonzalez can assist him on the professional side of the game...IMO he just doesn't seem to realize this is your 'profession'...you just can't show up and play you must put in the work!!! That means on the field/off the field during the season and after the season. He has all the talent in the world!!!
  6. If he is or isn't it is certainly up for debate. I am thankful that he plays for our organization. Just a gut feeling on my part (no special metrics etc to site) but I believe he is one of those players that will be special. Relax don't think too much...just play ball. Have a great year in the minors Royce and lets see where the chips fall next year,
  7. If memory serves me correctly didn't WCCO sponsor Upper Deck season ticket packages back then for $83 full season package? Poor TK having to manage those rosters. No manager should have to do that at the big league level.
  8. The Twins need to petition MLB to exclude AL East teams from their schedule except Baltimore.
  9. MLB/NBA/NFL/Gopher football/baseball/World Series/Super Bowl/Final Four/concerts/monster trucks...horse trough bathrooms...fresh dome dogs (insert laughter)the list goes on and on! Iowa football fans had too much fun one time...
  10. You could say the Metrodome played a significant role in the winning of said World Series...way to go Teflon white/dingy white roof!
  11. 90-72....90 wins gets the division title this year...
  12. Fair statement. I don't see a wild card coming out of the Central. IMO it will take 89-92 wins to win the division.
  13. That commercial was classic! Never met Joe nor a single member of his family. IMO I would say from all accounts the Mauer clan seem to be top notch people. I purchased a vehicle from Billy he was a straight up gentleman in how he carried himself. I would say those 3 boys were raised with humility/respect and thankfulness for what they were afforded in life. I don't recall one time during his career that he intentionally made any accomplishment or hurdle in his career about himself. Had one hell of a career that was unfortunately derailed somewhat by the concussions. Top notch athlete in 3 sports. Team mates/peers he played against seemed to show respect all the way around. HOF will certainly be debated from several different angles. Great career Joe enjoyed watching you play a game you genuinely loved to play.
  14. Very simple statement by my simple brain,,,2019 is a HUGE year for the organization as a whole being tied to the performance of Sano/Buxton. In terms of who may or may not come up in 2020 ready to contribute and perhaps just perhaps the front office saying go for it and opening up the checkbook in free agency. 2020 could be the year to reclaim the division. Should be an interesting offseason in how we play in free agency as well.
  15. Regardless of who they sign/extend etc. there is NO reason they can't hit $150 million in payroll. That is not asking to much of ownership!
  16. 2019 is a very important year for Miguel. This organization has shown a great deal of patience in him. The fan base has also. There have certainly been flashes of what he is capable of doing on the ball field. IMO he has to look in the mirror and ask himself how bad he wants it. The talent it there without question!
  17. He needs to get right between the ears and decide if he wants to be a ballplayer or not. Work on your craft lose some weight and rededicate yourself. The talent is there no doubt. Time to get to work Miguel!
  18. Where is a Mark Grace slump buster when you need it or a Mike Redmond running through the clubhouse? Twins at a minimum need to win 3 of 4 against Cleveland. As far as 'must win' series in early June I think for the psychology of this club it is a must win series! Just one rubes opinion. WIN TWINS!
  19. I would hope between Mollie/Hunter/Cuddy/Morneau/Kaat/Oliva/Blyleven/Morris which all have ties to the organization that someone could get through to him! Those are some fairly successful names within the game of baseball. If they can't get through to him assuming they have or will try then I don't know what to say about where his head is. Actually I would know what to say but will defer to keep it clean.
  20. Unfortunately I think his arm/shoulder has just flat out had it. You can tell how badly he wants it to be there but it just isn't.
  21. IMO the biggest difference/weakness and there are more than one is the bullpen....that 72-1 figure WOW I forgot them being that lights out. I don't envision this team going on a '06 type of run. What has to happen is guys getting healthy and then giving the ole look in the mirror and asking themselves what do I need to do to help this club win games? It is May 2nd...but everyday you say it is only such and such a date is another game on the schedule you are losing to that mind set. We need to start winning series and like now! We hear the old cliché all the time of this being a business and we are all professionals etc...well it is time to start playing like it. Everyone gets paid to play and has a job to do. Our club has been very poor thus far in '18.
  22. Agreed...add on to that an ole TK saying 'We will be/are as good as today's starting pitcher and how he performs'...gotta play fundamental baseball. Make the plays that need to be/should be made! Get some timely hitting/run the bases well...do those things along with your comments and you should be a good ball club.
  23. Copyright Mark Grace...he needs a 'Slump Buster'...if you know the term you know the term. I honestly think he is trying to hard. Yogi once said '90% of the game is mental the other half is physical'. He is thinking way too much I bet you would find if you put some truth serum in him. You are one of the new guys and trying to prove yourself can be difficult especially with a start like this. Go up there swing the bat like you know you can.
