  1. Three-batter minimum? No thank you. I enjoy seeing the manager work his bullpen magic vs the other managers lineup magic. Universal designated hitter? How about home team chooses to play with or without a DH everyday? 20-second pitch clock? Let’s make it 10, but not have a clock with runners on base. Mound visits? I’m not sure if these really NEED to be regulated, but will agree if taken advantage of they do grind the game to a halt. Roster size? I’m not a more is always better kinda fella. 26 would be fine I guess. Likely would just cause more pitching changes. Anti-tanking? Just outright a fruitless idea imho.
  2. Signing #5 pitchers so you can drop a #5 pitcher with options from your 40 man seems like a bad way to prepare for injuries.
  3. That looks like a list of perennial contenders to me. Except for the Angels you could have said any of those teams were viable WS candidates on a preseason prediction. Money is the #1 factor.
  4. I agree it will take more than 3/45 to sign Kimbrel. I’d be willing to go 3/60. Astudillo could take a starters # of at bats between catcher, 3b, and 2b, or should, IMO. This team is really lacking in contact.
  5. 1) 3/45 is a steal for Kimbrel. If the FO is into value signings, that’s about as good as it gets. 2) Unis are unis 3) I like the trio Twins have behind the dish. Imho it’s been a long time since this kind of depth and upside at catcher.
  6. Considering Cave has options he’ll probably start the year in the minors. Austin isn’t really cut out for the job. Granite also has an option. So that leaves Reed. He’s right handed which is nice for balance and is a capable CF, I’ve heard. Based on last years results I’d have to make Kepler or Buxton the 4th. That’s just me. Or Adam Jones would be a nice pickup, split time with Kepler and show Buxton the ropes.
  7. Amen. It’s a cookie cutter league. Moneyball was running the show after Oakland made a nice run and now it’s the young guys and their analytics. Don’t follow the trend, set it. Look at the NFL. Not every team can trot out Brady or Brees so teams have to find different ways to contend; great defense, clock control. Their aren’t enough quality starters in the league to fill out 5 spots on 30 teams. So find another way to get 1450 quality innings.
  8. The more I think about this I’m seeing Perez and Mejia battle out for the fifth spot and the loser opening for Odor and Pineda.
  9. If fip and xfip are so far off the actual results I have trouble believing they’re reliable predicting the future results.
  10. It doesn’t make any sense to me. Why pay extra money for a roll of the dice? He doesn’t have options so that advantage is lost. Twins have plenty of dice to roll that can be sent down and picked up for another roll again later, and they’re making minors money most of the time.
  11. Berrios, Mejia, Gonzo, Romero, Stewart, Littell, DeJong, Thorpe. It’s true, not a lot of mlb innings there. It’s not like Gibson or Odor are irreplaceable, or can’t be upgraded through FA or trade next offseason.
  12. I’m all for Berrios being a Twins lifer. Rosario is a nice candidate for a big payday. Polanco has a good start going, let’s wait and see if it’s the PEDs or if he’s for real. HUGE no on Buxton and Sano. These guys were demoted to the minors last year, and for good reason. Kepler is decidedly average and those aren’t the guys you give money. Gibson? I don’t know, I’m not a fan. I saw up thread someone compared an extension for him to the Hughes extension, and I’d have to agree with that.
  13. He’s the best catcher in the game right now. He’s not Mauer or Posey in their primes, not even Lucroy when he was in Milwaukee. Realmuto looks so good because two way catchers are almost nonexistent in the game right now. A Garver/Castro/Astudillo mix behind the dish has some promise. With the state of the roster I’d not give up a top prospect for an .825 OPS, no matter what position that .825 OPS plays.
  14. Polanco is a nice well rounded player. Seems capable of holding down SS, especially with that slash line. I don’t see Gordon being any more than injury replacement this year, no reason to get his arbitration clock started. So far as bringing in Machado. My preference would be to start him at 3rd and move Sano to a 3b/1b/DH/bench bat role, he’s earned it. I believe Torreyes deal is a split major/minor league deal so he’s not a 25 man crunch issue and will likely get first dibs over Gordon should the need arise.
  15. The Twins don’t have a core to build on but just so happens that some elite in their prime players are available and Twins have ZERO money on the books and a cache of prospects coming in the next few years. Perfect storm?
  16. I’m no Machado fan either, hitting catchers in backswings, Donaldson incident, Pedroia spiking, foot stomp, etc. He is definitely a top end talent though, and the Twins are horribly lacking in that dept.
  17. Exactly!! Thank you for expanding on my post. Both him and Harper seem to be just as concerned with breaking the AAV record as they are with getting that mega deal. They played in the same market all these years. I say why not let them continue that but on the same team.
  18. Harper, 3/115 Machado, 3/115 Keuchel, 3/60 Kimbrel, 3/60 Opt outs after the 2nd year for everyone Let’s go win a WS!!!
  19. The MLB isn’t Cinderella. Pumpkins don’t turn into chariots and carry you off to the ball to meet your Prince Charming. That’s what is gonna have to happen if this roster plans on contending/competing. Blow it up or push the chips in. I’d even be happy if all the chips were pushed in on a bluff.
  20. Wondering how many teams outside the top 1/3 of payroll have won the WS in recent years. Off the top of my head; Royals, White Sox?, Marlins, Angels? Not many. Payroll isn’t the end all be all money can’t buy happiness, but it sure is a good down payment.
  21. Any one year deal for veterans on non contending teams is so they can be flipped at the deadline for prospects. This is something the last FO didn’t make use of and I’ll atlest give some credit to the new one for taking advantage.
  22. If unspent money was going to be spent in later years Twins could sign Machado and Harper for whatever they wanted.
  23. Yes and yes. The money is off the books, prospects are just that and let’s not worry about blocking someone years down the road. A spot can always be made. This team is decidedly average everywhere. If only a couple of star players, or maybe just one superstar, were available for big money/short term the Twins could actually look like contenders. The Royals make a push when they’re looking good. Brewers are currently all in and have shown a willingness to make big trades/FA signs for long term and rental pieces when they see a window. When was the last time the Twins made a win now move, Lance Lynn and LoMo don’t count?Maybe a couple real win now moves shows these guys the FO believes in them and this “core” might just step up and become just that. I’m about to be a Brewers fan.
