Verlander didn’t play to his potential with the Tigers when they were struggling. Some guys get used to playing meaningful games for contenders and need that extra motivation.
Drop Adrianza, let Schoop or Marwin backup Jorge. Sano/Marwin platoon 3rd with Astudillo getting a start or two a week. Sano covers the Cruz offdays. Or just drop Castro.
Garver vs righties La Tortuga vs lefties Castro traded for anything off the 40 man and salary relief. Fill 40 man spot with Craig Kimbrel. Go to World Series
I’m all for the roster rules changes. The three batter minimum and position player pitching rules are only baffling to me. Forcing a guy who doesn’t have it that night to stay in will only make games longer. A lot of LOOGY will lose their job also.
Twins have a ton of young guys coming up and little on the books going forward. Even with signing a close to $20 million per year deal enough wiggle room exists to make a mid season trade. It would be nice to have Keuchel around as an Ervin type of anchor for the rotation. 3/$50? The guy has a Cy Young in the not too distant past and a winning resume.
You say bad luck for Sano. I say good luck for the Twins. Let’s quit putting our hopes on a Chris carter, Mark Reynolds type. Time for Marwin and Astudillo to shine.
I don’t really see the need for a backup 1B/DH/PH. Who would he pinch hit for? Castro? If so then why not just pinch hit with Garver or Astudillo? Twins only pinch hit 100 times last year. I don’t think it’s a very good use of a roster spot for a pinch hitter/1B only player.
I’ve wondered the same thing. Why sign Cron for 4 million more than the player they already have in the same mold? It shows zero confidence in Austin. Great trade they made, pay for half a season of Lynn so they can have half a season of a dime a dozen no option first base only player.
100%, and the FO wasn’t dealt any of these guys. These are the cards they chose. It would of been nice to get Mauer on a one year deal or Moustakas short term. Micheal Brantley has picked up a first base glove for Houston. Marwin or Manny could’ve created a shuffle. I’d rather give Astudillo a shot there than Duda.
I’m a little concerned about his age. Maybe they should’ve only gone four years. He had good LAR(laughs above replacement) last year but they weren’t as high in the decibels. Is this just a one year hiccup or the start of a new trend? I have some under ten aged nephews and they weren’t so excited to see him as I’d hoped. The Cedar Rapids Kernels have a nice up and coming mascot in Shucks. It’s always nice to see homegrown talent make it to the big league club and I’m concerned they may have blocked him with this move.
He’s here for injury insurance and to showcase if he’s still got it for injury insurance with other teams he can join after he doesn’t make the roster. Also doesn’t hurt to catch a little more pay.
I agree with you on Berrios and Rosario. Gibson is a qualifying offer for me, if he plays like last year and not the previous ones. Buxton and Sano I’m an outright no thank you.
Putting him in the bullpen this year doesn’t exclude him from starting in years to come. The Cardinals have done this with lots of their pitchers over the years and have become the model mid market team.
Their is no substitute for learning how to get major league hitters out, ask Berrios. Taylor Rogers learned a slider last year during the season while working out of the pen.
Because the rotation is full and we have a lot of depth I want to put him in the pen. The best 12/13 pitchers should be on the roster and he is definitely that.
I’m all for the “overpay” for any proven MLB talent. Would just prefer it comes in the form of AAV not extra years. Would be ecstatic to have Keuchel for three years, at ANY price.
