  1. Here's hoping this Bird in hand will be worth 4 in the bush, bush leagues that is. Addressing your #1 need with no immediate cost, lots to like. I did watch Povich pitch in Cedar Rapids, and he does look like a goodie. Wish him and the others well.
  2. Twins selling while in 1st place sounds like a good recipe for establishing a losing culture. Better to win a division and make the post-season than not, every time. Nobody expected the Twins to win it all in 87 or 91 either.
  3. Competent bullpen arms for non top-10 prospects: our pen has cost so much in the win column, just the ability to get through an inning would be welcome, especially with the manager and staff's dependence on relief pitching.
  4. Thanks Jeremy. Pretty nice to get your first 18 of 20 signed sealed and delivered, even sneaking a few HS players in there on day 3. And thanks Doc for a great post
  5. Well according to Twins Daily's own draft tracker, picks 1-18 are all signed. https://twinsdaily.com/minnesota-twins-draft-picks/2022/ MLBs draft tracker shows picks 1-3 are signed https://www.mlb.com/draft/tracker/2022/all/team/twins
  6. Certainly a possibility - they were the team I feared most coming into the season, not the Guardians. If they get going, game over.
  7. That would be the definition of going all in with your pants down: Correa, then Ohtani. Wouldn't that be fun? As I recall, the Twins were a finalist on him, no?
  8. Interesting reading this thread. Was just looking over his career numbers on baseball reference: just 7 years ago he finished 3rd in the AL rookie of the year, albeit by a mile, to winner Carlos Correa, then Lindor. But after the anticipatory hype, he flashed 18 HR, 52 RBI, .916 OPS in a half season of work as a 22 year old, and it looked like superstardom was in the cards. All Star at 24, with 2 20+ homer seasons under his belt. A monster 26 year old season in 2019 with career high 34 homers, and a .923 OPS. Since then, bupkis. His whiffs create a breeze like the storied blower fans at the Metrodome. I watched this guy's career play out - I couldn't have been higher on a prospect in 2015. Let's just say, it hasn't worked out as expected.
  9. Division titles have some small merit, as do playoff appearances. So hell no. CC has been a treat to watch as a Twin. Why throw the chance at the post season away, or months of watching this guy as our shortstop? Assets are great, but all CC cost was money. I hope he decides to stay another year. They could be a hot streak away from a World Series.
  10. Sounds like a student of the game, and willing to dive into data on opposing pitchers. I hope that approach continues to serve him well.
  11. Buxton is one of the most photogenic guys when playing the game. He has a classic natural, joyful look. Even when he whiffs, he heads back to the dugout with a "how about that" look on his face.
  12. Somewhat toolsy HS outfielder coming in at 20, and the draft is complete.
  13. For those wanting a catcher, Nate Baez of Arizona State is still available.
  14. MLB is a money grubbing business. Win win win. Unfortunately, even the bottom of the chain, Little League, is hyper competitive, mainly due to butthead parents living off future dreams of their poor kids. Minor league ball and summer leagues like Northwoods are where it's at. Love my forays to Cedar Rapids to watch the Kernels. It's casual family fun at its best, and easy on the pocketbook. Entertainment is the name of the game.
  15. Good hitting SS and high level LHP are usually near the top of my wants, along with the toolsy CF. Much more exciting than slow 1B power hitter types, or utility 2b guys that are well-rounded but masters of nothing. We've seen our share.
  16. Would someone kindly explain what the heck a competitive balance pick is and how they are awarded?
  17. So a slow old shortstop and a pitcher who blew his arm out. Keep em coming Twins.
  18. The Twins got a near consensus top 5 guy at 8: gotta like that, even for an old guy. ?
  19. Not a knowitall with WAR, but Jeffers is the same as Garver, 0.4. Sanchez is 0.3. Rorvedt is -0.1. Could be worse.
  20. His ship has sailed for me - he was an exciting prospect as Miggy Jr., but from 2020 on, his inability to hit for average, whiff a lot, age(29), and overall lack of athleticism, buh bye., I like Miranda at 3rd and Kiriloff at 1st better.
  21. Wallner is awesome - I shared this story a year ago but I sat next to his grandma at a game in Cedar Rapids. Her expectations were that he would succeed, and dang it grandma, you got it right. Nice lady.
