  1. The pitching staff sure looks like a rebuild to me. I see Berrios (hopefully) and a bunch of guys.
  2. Well, I guess we'll find out about JDL won't we? He's one of the ten(ish) best pitching prospects in all of baseball, we may very well have just turned down a #2. Or a bust. Time will tell. But he was a top ten(ish) pitching prospect by many accounts. Good luck finding another offer with that on the table.
  3. It was not a 1:1 swap. "junk" doesn't tell me much other than, with 100% certainty, 1:1 was never being discussed. So, please, let's stop ever saying this was 1:1. We don't know what the "junk" was or the rest of the package, all we can say is there was a package headlined by JDL that the Twins didn't feel was enough. But that is a wide range of possibilities.
  4. Denied? No, I don't think so. Dramatically underappreciated the need? God yes. And I would argue we could retain Dozier and still end up "wasting" him. In fact, I'd argue retaining him is most likely to end in us wasting that asset. (And we've been over the fact that I wouldn't just give him away, but I'd have found a way to make that deal happen with DeLeon)
  5. This team needs a #2 starter more than it needs two Brian Doziers. Has the off-season caused us to forget that you also have to stop the other team from scoring too?
  6. Which would be a good bet. When gunnathor tried to offer examples of top 40 prospects moved for hitters only one was straight up (Lucroy) and both of the other deals included a valuable arm in the deal as well. If we're going to exceed an offer with DeLeon, you can almost bet it won't be with Dozier by himself. If it happens at all.
  7. What do you mean by "more highly regarded". I would characterize the love/hate swings on Berrios and DeLeon as pretty similar.
  8. I don't know what else was offered with DeLeon but I'm 100% sure it wasn't a 1:1 swap.
  9. Understanding prospect bust rates is exactly why i wanted Dozier dealt! We simply don't have enough upside young pitching in our organization.
  10. I genuinely hope this doesn't blow up in our face. I'm also going to be far from shocked if it does.
  11. Dude. We're going to lead the league in 9-8 losses. Probably in 10-7 losses as well. C'mon....chin up!
  12. He's improved his agility and reflexes dodging legos strewn on the floor? It really should be an olympic event.
  13. I came in with low expectations and still managed to get surprised by how bad the list is.
  14. Yeah, really bothersome. And toss in some of the Benny Hill-like defense we saw the last few years and people are really going to dismiss the value of defense? That Polanco can out-hit his defensive performance? It's when you hear stuff like that, that I start to wonder how people are forming their opinions. It's ok to admit your favorite team is making a mistake. And this infield could be a major mistake.
  15. We should start a thread trying to predict what miracle elixir will be written about for Mauer this spring. I'm going with Pilates.
  16. True, in this case (especially with this position), I don't think that's happening. And I'd rather not learn that lesson the hard way again. I've learned that lesson enough for a lifetime the last few years.
  17. Enough that my brain started to hurt. The only thing more painful was seeing how wrong it was come to life in RF.
  18. Yeah, Nick's a pretty sharp guy. He'll occasionally latch on to one of the smarter ideas guys like us are trotting out there. Good for him.....
  19. We blame the pitching but it's only part of run prevention. Bad defense has a domino effect and getting bad defense from short is especially critical. I would think the last few years would have taught us how crippling that can be. I mean, we heard last year that Sano's D wasn't going to hurt us and we saw ample evidence to trounce that notion right? So why are we trotting that same line of reasoning out again?
  20. Unless we have blocked it from our memories due to PTSD we all remember how much the Nishioka disaster at SS destroyed our team. A left side of Polanco and Sano is inviting serious run prevention issues. I'm all about giving Sano run at third, i think he can improve greatly with reps. But you need a SS next to him that you can rely on and Polanco isn't it.
  21. This is like the third article in a row I feel you are trolling points I make to turn into articles Nick. I demand co-authorship credit........ (And good article!)
  22. I'm not convinced merit will even matter with Santiago. But I fully agree with your second sentence, hence why I phrased that rotation as my worst nightmare,
  23. Let's be honest, how often does anyone "win" a spot? I get that this sort of thing sounds good to toss around, but the reality is that teams don't make decisions that way.
  24. Absolutely and I feel the same about Jones. But greatness has different echelons, my beef with Jones is that I often think he gets elevated beyond what he's due. I've heard much more glowing talk over the years about him than I have about Beltre. And I consider the two on the same level.
