  1. Luis Castillo's filter was brilliant. Burl Ives was a favorite of mine as well. But TROLPO? Damn I loved me some TROLPO. The wiki site, short lived as it was, also contained some absolute brilliance.
  2. I miss BYTO, there was a little bit more of an "unhinged" element to the conversations and I miss that. Things wheeled a bit more freely and as a result there was some pretty awesome stuff we came up with over the years. We were our own little whacky society of Twins fans with our own language, memes, etc. I miss the hell out of that. That said, I see the vision for Twins Daily and I've come to appreciate it's existence as well. Like Pseudo said, most of us have known each other for a huge portion of our adult lives so the sense of community from BYTO is still here. And the baseball content here is really, really good, so it's been fun to merge those elements.
  3. Huh, yeah, not sure where I pulled Grossman from. My bad. Park I understand misgivings about, he's 29.
  4. Well, I don't like Grossman much, but if we're going to heap praise on Mauer for his OBP it's worth pointing out that Grossman did provide that skill in droves. Even if he also was a butcher in the field. With Vargas, I see things to like. He's a player who looks willing to learn, adjust his approach, and try to get better. I try not to judge players who aren't given adequate, consistent playing time too harshly. And with young players I'm even more cautious. I know you feel good about Max Kepler (and so do I) but if you started watching Max about halfway through August through the end of the year you'd also wonder why anyone would be high on him. He was brutal in all phases. Those things happen to young players. I'm wiling to judge Vargas can't play or isn't a part of this team's future when I've seen a good, long stretch of playing time. And he's only had one of those two years ago.
  5. I would argue virtually anyone should've been starting over Plouffe. Yet another victim of that decision. So, yeah, he should have kept playing. And he damn sure should be playing over Adam Lind or the husk of Justin Morneau. The kid has hit in the minors, he's not even a fluke like Dozier. There is a history there of production.
  6. He was on a tear in July and then inexplicably stopped playing with any regularity for all of August.
  7. I'm not sure I care all that much about pedigree. All of your concerns, except for defense, are as much or more so issues with Buxton. I suggest the issue is unfairly holding limited initial results against a player. Especially one given limited consistent playing time. Vargas may well be a non-factor, but like all young hitters I don't measure them by the sum total of their early at bats but by the growth they show.
  8. Quite possible, but his playing time also became inexplicably sporadic.
  9. I get that you don't like Vargas, but this is far from even-handed analysis. Do you treat Buxton's production the same way? I see Vargas having changed his approach significantly last year, I'd love to see what he could do with a full season of ABs. If he can't produce, then we move on, but this team needs to invest in players like Vargas.
  10. As far as I know Legion (and his mother I suppose) are the only characters in the x-universe. Plaza was a brilliant casting choice also.
  11. I wouldn't call him injury prone, but we're close to that. Some bodies absorb impact and avoid injury better than others. So far, his track record isn't very good on that front. It's a major concern i have about him.
  12. Everything non-Punisher and non-Cottomouth stunk about those shows. And that was a sizable portion of both. I'll give it a shot, Marvel has earned that much, but the luster of this group of shows has worn off a bit for me personally. Now....bring Fisk back into a prominent role and you might turn me around 180.
  13. I'm not particularly convinced I'm going to like The Defenders either. I've liked some of the parts building up so far, but Luke Cage and DD Season 2 were both a bit of a let down for me personally. (Well, at least everything in the second half of those seasons.)
  14. Doctor Strange. And pretty much everything Chuck Norris ever did.
  15. Hmmm, I thought I recalled it failing Jack a few times too. Those seasons all sort of blur together now.
  16. Same. Not to mention sometimes things do start when I expect them to and other times they don't. Maybe I just haven't figured it out, but last night forced me to realize that the DVR must now be my best friend at all times. I can't just hope to remember at a given time and day.
  17. I missed it as well, damn west coast time zone.
  18. Plus it frequently portrayed right-wing thinking as flawed on torture and a host of other things.
  19. Yeah, I'm with Mike. I thought it was entertaining. If the show ends up having all those plot threads turn out the way you describe nick, then I'll be disappointed as well. But some of the appeal with me is I really did love the show way back when. I'm going to give it a shot and see if they can't surprise me. I can always bail if it doesn't continue to entertain me, but those are all valid criticisms/concerns.
  20. Westworld was great. Other than The OA I've enjoyed just about every show I've invested time into this year. So far the new 24 has promise too.
  21. I suspended disbelief for most of the first seven episodes. And I was ok with that, there was enough to like to do so, but the ending was so "WTF is even happening!", so out of tone with the rest of it, so unsatisfying I couldn't possibly endorse to anyone. (Unless, out of some desire to punish themselves, they really want to feel how blindsiding the last hour is.) There was just a real lack of narrative and tonal consistency overall and the last hour lit that problem on fire and danced on it. (Literally)
  22. Is he actually good at it though? Sure, it's his primary position, but from what I've read he's hardly shown wizardry there. If you've got a .600 OPS, you better be a wizard.
