  1. I don't look at this as a rebuild. This is a chance to find out who has the ability and temperament to be a Big League pitcher. If this is the way the Twins do it,, this should be a fascinating year.
  2. If someone could find a way to teach players to NOT strike out, they would become millionaires.
  3. This was an interesting read. Personally, I have given up on Larnach. It would be nice to be wrong about him. 2022 will say alot.
  4. Forget Larnach. If he is brought up by the Twins again, I expect he will prove he cannot hit Major League pitching and will be gone forever. Don't give up on Kepler. If he hits well in 2022, he'll probably be a Twin in 2025.
  5. I like that he is only 29 (If he stays healthy). Will he be healthy enough to have a full Spring Training?
  6. Who says Cave is unpopular? Granted, last year was not his best, but a lot of players had bad seasons for a lot of reasons. When Cave is mentioned I think of his many good catches, accurate throws and timely hits that have helped the Twins to victory. Just because you don't like Cave, don't assume that feeling is universally shared.
  7. Too Old. No better hitter than Simmons. Not a better fielder than Simmons. Too expensive. I'd rather use Gordon or Palacios.
  8. I'm thinking Palacios will be added to the 40-man roster and start at SS for the Twins, with Miranda at 3b, Polanco @ 2b and Kiriloff at 1b. What happens to Donaldson & Sano? Stay tuned for further updates.
  9. Yes. Use DH to get players off their feet and their bats in the lineup. I want to see Garver to get around 200 DH at bats, Too bad Sano, Garver and Donaldson are all right hand hitters.
  10. Of the players listed above I would rank Tony Oliva first, then Richie Allen and finally Maury Wills. I would not rank Kaat as one of the top players. Oliva was robbed by his injuries. At the end he would come to bat with his knee wrapped and you could see the bulge from the bleachers, where I sat. He practically had to hit a double to make it to first base. It was sad to see, yet magnificent at the same time. Tony Oliva definitely deserves to be in the HoF.
  11. This occurred to me after I wrote my response: "I wouldn't want to join any Club that would have me for a member." - Groucho Marx
  12. Bah Humbug. A pitcher calculating the advantages of joining the Twins wants: -A ballpark which makes it difficult to get extra base hits and/or home runs, -A defensive team that a pitcher can reasonably expect to prevent excess run scoring, -A relief corps that can be expected to hold a lead. Looking at last year, we have a pitcher favorable ballpark, but we had a terrible defense and for the most part of the season, a terrible bullpen. This leaves the Twins a less than desirable landing place for a quality starter, looking for a home, even if the Twins offer the most money. I would be suspicious of any "top" pitcher that wants to join the Twins. Bah Humbug.
  13. I hope the NL adds the DH. This means we can trade (or give away) Donaldson and make room for Garver/Sano to be our DH. This means that the Twins will NOT bring back Cruz (even though he is my wife's favorite player). Oh well. Sometimes wives need to be disappointed for the good of the team.
  14. I found little to complain about when he was in the field. He obviously adjusted well to better pitching in St. Paul. Lets hope the Twins don't trade Buxton. Lets hope they don't have to rely on Celestino in '22. Lets hope they can stay with Celestino until he matures as a hitter. (lets hope Celestino doesn't turn out like the typical Cleveland center fielder.)
  15. I think the Twins have 3 chances for a good result in '22. Ober, Ober & Ober.
  16. Larnach was terrible for the Twins and no better for the Saints. If he doesn't show sharp improvements in 2022 he is out of the picture. The last game Ryan pitched should be a warning sign to all of us. He isn't going to be a major league starter until he proves he can consistently pitch 3 times through a batting order and allow 3 runs or less doing it. His mediocre fast ball will not fool major league hitters for long unless he has complete command of it. I agree that Alcala should be on the list. He could end up as next years closer.
  17. I think it all depends on their decision on Buxton. Buxton clearly is not ready to sign anything other than a high contract. If the Twins decide to keep him for one more season, then I wouldn't expect any of our key players to be traded. If they deal Buxton in the off-season then I expect Kepler, Sano, Donaldson & perhaps even Polanco to be traded. Miranda, Celestino and perhaps Austin Martin can be brought up to fill the gaps.
  18. I hate the way Rocco handles his pitchers. He put unproven pitchers into high leverage situations and too often this proved to be a bad idea. If the Twins were behind when he put a weak/unproven pitcher in, he left them in to run up the score. Too often the Twins offense was so far behind it was almost impossible for them to think about catching up. It is to the players credit, that they stayed focused and kept scoring runs. I grade Rocco a D.
  19. I still have my number 33 shirt from back in the day. I still occasionally we & ar it and think fondly of how he would drive doubles to left-center & right-center.
  20. Saturdays game shows why we do need to resign Big Mike for 2022. He throws this kind of game again and again. Perhaps this years injury will persuade him to come into camp next year in better shape. Perhaps being in better shape will make him less prone to injury. I can picture him consistantly pitching this kind of game for several years to come.
  21. 2 games does not a season make. I hope that next year I am writing: 1 season does not a career make.
  22. This is all very interesting, however, it completely ignores the fact that most of these pitchers did not want to relocate to Minnesota. Their reasons may or may not have been valid, but it is my understanding that Minnesota wasn't even on the radar as a desirable place to play. Perhaps if the Twins had a better defense. I had hopes that Donaldson-Simmons on the left side would tighten up our defense, but alas, it was not to be so. Since the top pitchers would not move here, even if we matched their top-dollar offers, what strategy do we have left?
  23. and in his last outting he thru lots of ground balls. Thats what I wanted to see.
  24. I always have to remind myself, that I don't know what is really happening with these guys. We only see the results of their day to day efforts. It is easy to mistake a lucky outting for a good outing & an unlucky outting for a bad outting.
