  1. According to Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press, Ricky Nolasco will be making a rehab start in Cedar Rapids on Saturday. http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_27945723/minnesota-twins-ricky-nolasco-set-rehab-assignment?source=rss If it is successful, he should be returning to the Twins. Will he take his place in the rotation or will they put Nolasco in the bullpen? After Pelfrey's 7 innings of shutout pitching last night, all 5 of the current starters have had a quality start. If Molitor puts Nolasco in the rotation, who should Nolasco replace ?
  2. Since Molitor has decided to make Santana his SS, he needs to give him more time to smooth out his defensive lapses. However, he should be removed from the leadoff spot. Let Dozier lead off and bat Plouffe 4th. The Twins could live with that for a while.
  3. I see Santana playing SS thru April. I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved to 8th or 9th in the batting order. If he doesn't start to hit and field better by May, I suspect the Twins will do something dramatic.
  4. Safe ? I believe the Twins should always put their best lineup on the field. Hicks has not shown the maturity to play in the majors. Whats wrong with letting Schafer hold center until Buxton is ready ? Meyer & May can throw a few games in Rochester while we see if Pelfrey, Nolasco and Milone really have recovered and are the Major league pitchers they were in the past. We should all take a breath and see how the year plays out.
  5. I hope the hitters hit when the pitchers falter and that the pitchers pitch when the hitting struggles. I hope that Perkins is healthy and has no blown saves and that they have a difficult time finding a spot for the players in the minors.
  6. Arcia is either going to improve, in which case he will be amongst the better LF. or Arcia won't hit enough to cover his defensive weakness, in which case Arcia will find himself playing fewer than 300 AB and we will bring up one or more of our OF prodigy's, or maybe they will bring up Sano and Plouffe will find himself playing LF.
  7. Pelfrey is said to be a good guy in the duggout and a mentor for younger pitchers. It is no surprise that he says that he will be professional and do his best as a reliever. Who knows. This could be the best thing to happen to him and the Twins.
  8. How many times did someone say "Spring Training stats don't mean anything." ???
  9. I watch the Twins a lot for their fielding. Pitcher in trouble - men on base - pitch to contact - ground balls >> Dozier & SS. Enjoyed Florimon and Dozier the most. Saw great improvement by Plouffe but mainly Dozier stands out. He may have more errors but he certainly has far more chances. 2nd most in AL. Tied for 5th most Put-Outs. The most assists and the 4th most DP. The eye test says that Dozier is one of the best.
  10. "Another note about 2014: I believe that part of the bad performance at the outfield was the on the manager." You always have to take a cheap shot at Gardy. You won. Gardy is gone. Move on already.
  11. Losing Gardy and Andy while having a rookie manager adds 5 losses. Bullpen success is based on starter success and, with the exception of Hughes, the starters sucked. This led to the bullpen collapse in the last 1/3 of the season. That collapse skewed the season numbers downward. As a result, your analysis of the bullpen is based on false numbers. Use the first 2/3 of the season and you will see a slightly above average bullpen. For 15, If Hughes stays an above average pitcher and the starters improve, by an average of 2 outs per outing, then the current bullpen will be fine. There is no need for trades and help is in the minors. Nothing can keep Molitor from making rookie mistakes and the Twins will be lucky to improve to 85 losses. But it won't be the fault of the bullpen.
  12. Don't you have anything better to comment on than their parents choice of Names ? You should be ashamed of yourselves.
  13. Not tryin to highjack the thread... but this is killing me, every time I log on "15 days and 19 hours remaining until Twins pitchers & catchers report to Ft. Myers" It moves so slow, it almost seems to be moving backwards
  14. With the Twins current starting pitchers (and no games played) I do not fear any matchups with Central division opponents (including KC). If the Twins equal their 2014 hitting, they have the ability to hit any pitcher. This means that the Twins are likely to have a winning record agains the AL Central. Of course, on May 1, I may wake up and see the reality...but I hope not
  15. The things I look for when searching for a better team: * Batters that hit in the clutch. * Starting pitchers that strand runners. * Infielders that can turn double plays. * A relief corps that holds the line after the 6th inning. * Wins at the end of the day.
  16. We seem to be having a bad case of, "If it didn't happen in Minnesota, it never happened..." with regards to Milone's effectiveness. Pitchers who used to be known as "crafty lefty's" are now known as "soft-tossing" pitchers. A left handed starter does several things: - They throw off the hitters after seeing mostly right handed pitching. - They set up the right handed relievers to be more effective, as the hitters have to adjust again. - They set up the next starter, because the hitters must adjust again. For all these reasons, the Twins will probably use Milone as their 5th starter. After all... Milone is "left-handed and breahing."
  17. I love the Twins, however, there is not a player on the team that does not carry doubt when he is on the field. Plouffe is no different. There are 2 ways to look at the Twins 2015 season. 1) Because of the upgrade in pitching and their Run scoring ability, they will be a .500+ team and in contention into September. 2) Because of the failure of some parts of the team, whether it is pitching, hitting, fielding or management, they will be at the bottom of the division for most of the season. We have a right to be skeptical. If Plouffe does not maintain his 2014 level of play, the Twins will certainly be a sub-.500 team.
  18. The comments that you have to wait 10 years to judge a draft made me curious. I went to baseball-reference.com to check out the numbers. http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?query_type=franch_year&team_ID=MIN&year_ID=2006&draft_type=junreg& It is very interesting to scroll up and down through the drafts and see the players that got a look by the Twins.
  19. I would like to see our Ace reliever come in whenever there are men on base and less than 2 outs* Stop the bleeding should be #1 priority. Setup and closing are important, but I want our best reliever to stop the rallys. *This can be any inning where the manager decides to pull a pitcher because of inefectiveness.
  20. Throwing gas is not the key to a closer. The ability to focus and perform when under pressure is the key. Look at all the relievers with good stuff when they start an inning, that blow up with men on base. I think we should relax until we have 3 or more superior relievers, before we worry about bullpen by committee
  21. I hope we only bring up rookies to open the season and in September. If it happens that way we will be having a terrific season. Starters are having Quality Starts. Relievers will be getting holds and saves. The fielders will be fielding and the hitters will be hitting. Most importantly, Molitor & Allen aren't screwing things up.
  22. 1 rotation spot and Meyer, May, Milone, Pelfrey & now Stauffer have an opportunity to fill it. If 2 or more of them a have good spring training, I wonder which ones get the priority ?
  23. Of coursem the Twins could be in contention in 2015. A happy Phil Hughes could be the key to the club. Of course, all the pitchers arms could fall off too. Thats why we watch the games
  24. If Pressley could give us meaningful outtings, then Graham should be able to contribute as well.
