What the Recent Number Changes can Tell Us
h2oface commented on Greggory Masterson's blog entry in Brewed in the Trough
It was just a joke. A bad one, I guess. From an even to an odd number....... 17,,,,, that's odd. -
A lot of discussion about Arraez not being a lock to stay on the field. Seriously? It seems to be a FO trait to ignore that. Lopez is of the same ilk. He has missed significant time in his career with a pair of right shoulder strains and a rotator cuff strain. But he finally pitched a full season in 2022, throwing 180 innings across 32 starts. Many of the pitchers that they have signed or traded for came with known questions about health, and several are out for significant time as the bet was lost. Do I have to name them all? And our Twins were the team that ignored and bet on Correa to the tune of at least $200 million that he will not be a problem when even a guy like Steven Cohen, who throws money around with seemingly reckless abandon, bailed on him. Arraez hit .316/.375/.420 in a career-best 144 games in 2022. He was out only 18 games. I bet they sat Correa about that just to let him rest. Who is a "lock" to miss no games? Not many. Maybe none. I hope Lopez can stay healthly for at least 2 years, as that is a year less control than Arraez had left. And we need him to excel and not blow up immediately like the other Lopez..... and Mahle and Paddack. At least Maeda lasted the short 2 month season before his known instability in his arm started giving him trouble in 2021 and then gave out and we lost a good year and a half, leaving only 2023 left. Yep. We always hope the players will stay on the field.

Another right handed #3 to pull in the 4th or 5th inning. 2 more redundant prospects that can't replace any of the hits for years, if ever. But hey.... we have a nearly 40 million dollar (with his salary and bonus share for the year) shortstop with a scandalous cheating resume, a 10 million dollar strikeout king instead. You gotta love that. Another Lopez to blow up on the Twins. Lopez squared. I can't wait. Falvey is just so desparate to make his mark. The pitching experts are still treading water with a team of #3s after 6 years.

Assessing the Luis Arraez for Pablo López Trade
h2oface replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
“As the trade details came in, though, the trade was much more favorable to the Twins than anyone imagined, with the Twins not throwing in prospects of their own, but instead receiving multiple prospects.” Really? Anyone? Some, like me, don’t drink the Kool-aid. A batting champ for a number 3 starter, right handed starter at that, who had a number 5 second half, and a couple totally redundant hope and dreams? And a fan fav! And that is a good deal? I didn’t even drink and I have to get rid of what just came up out of my mouth. The pic is what it is like to comment on this site on my iphone -

Folks are being very optimistic about how long Correa will be able to or be the best option at short. 2022 already started the decline, perhaps, if 2021 was considered his peak.........

Luis Arraez’s Value Goes Beyond Excellent On-Field Performance
h2oface commented on Adam Friedman's blog entry in Adam Friedman
Twins and other teams can be soooooo cheap about an extra million, or half million, or couple hundred thousand to the controllable players, even when they deserve a lot more.... just because they can. I mean, look what they will pay Pagan!!! Just pay Arraez his little bit more that he wants, already. It's not like they have to pony up 30 million or so...... -

Have the Twins Improved the Roster this Winter?

If the players stay on the field and play, then we improve just because of that. It wouldn't be hard to improve the performance of Mahle and Paddack (and Maeda) from nothing to something. Can Pagan get worse? Three years running as one of the worst relievers in MLB says yes. "Tell me about the rabbits stuff again, George......" And don't forget the long term core contract - Randy Dobnak will finally be ready again, right?. I don't see a big improvement. The FO is going on hope and potential, and hoping for health. If Buxton stays on the field, Kepler isn't traded and benefits from the no shift rules, Correa actually plays well all year..... it could be great. Gallo for Kepler? I don't see it. Gallo has replaced Sano at the plate. Not too exciting- 30 replies

Since when are offers with contingencies not real offers? Most people buy houses with real offers that have at least one contingency - the financing contingency. And the majority also have a home inspection, and then find items that get negotiated before closing. If they don't get financing, or find something that can't get worked out in the home inspection, and the agreed upon contingencies can't be met, it was still a REAL offer. So were the Giants and Mets offers. Legal and binding, if all contingencies had been met.

“Robo Umps” Coming to all AAA Ballparks in 2023
h2oface replied to Melissa Berman's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
10 years overdue. The challenge option is just cowardly. Use the best option, and it is not humans guessing, and catchers moving their glove. -
Doubling down on both Pagan and Paddack. P and P more. Paddack pretty cheap. He can room with Dobnak.

Past MO is that all pitchers, especially our best pitchers, have to be traded with 1 1/2 years to 1/2 year left on their contract. This means all of our pitchers pretty much. Yet, they trade the ones we have homegrown, and trade for pitchers in the same boat. Correct me if I am wrong.......

All good info. Thank you. Certainly an assumption to attach defending patriarchy to stating facts about acquittal and its proper use. Your prerogative. You certainly don’t know me. But it appears we are in agreement that the Twins will be passing on Bauer.

Bauer becomes a thread were name calling and suppositions are allowed outside of commenting policy, it seems, and brings out hate. Opinions laced with disparaging name calling, especially when directed at the subject. Hard to separate the two. No way can the Twins go down that road, even with Correa, complete with his scandal history and baggage, as a long term clubhouse leader. I don’t see that any team can.
