  1. No trade clause is for years 2 & 3, he can be traded this first year to a handful of teams he has chosen. Not sure what the teams are. I still say do not trade him.
  2. I'd pass on Thor. We have enough #4's and #5's in the rotation. No need for another one who is expensive and short-term. Go for Months or Castillo but only if you plan on signing them long-term.
  3. Keep him for the stretch run, offer him a 5-6 year contract with 30+ AAV at the end of the year. No 10-year offer. Think Parise and Suter and look at the cap hell that the Wild is going through now. If he takes that offer great, if not then we go to Lewis next year after a fill-in at the beginning of the year. DO NOT trade him. For one the opt outs would exist for any team that trades for him so they would not offer much. Second, it sends a terrible signal to the clubhouse and to us fans. It also limits who would come here as a FA in the future. This should not be an option.
  4. The Twins lineup picks this year seem to mostly be contact hitters that know the strike zone. Is the FO finally starting to get sick of all the strikeouts? Maybe they are assuming that the dead ball era continues well into the future and they need to play more small ball instead of waiting for a walk and a bop?
  5. Rocco as much said so in the Strib article today. He will be in the pen if able to demonstrate that he can execute his pitches and get guys out. That'll also keep his innings down the rest of this year allowing him to ramp back up as a starter next season.
  6. Sounds like if we took him at 8 that it would be considered kind of a reach. Can we trade down and get other picks later on? I see this in other drafts (e.g. NFL, MLB) but never seem to see it in MLB. Why is that and is this a good case to move down and take him later on?
  7. Any idea what the Marlins have soured on him. It would be interesting to know if it is unique to their team makeup and whether their reason would also apply to the Twins.
  8. No big hitter w/o a position please. We have too many of those already.
  9. This is hoping that Sonny gets back to his old self. I know trades are supposed to work both ways but I sure hope we do not regret trading Chase. Make us win this trade Sonny!!!
  10. I would focus on prospects for a good reliever with remaining control years. I know it will be expensive, but I hate the idea of getting a rental and then having to plug that hole for next year or not plug it and be in the same state a year from now. Before the season I kept hearing we are working for 2023 and if we win this year that'd be great but the stars are not yet aligning for this year. The FO needs to decide on a plan and go for it. I just don't quite feel comfortable with pushing in all the chips given what I've seen so far this year. We are a good young team with lots of holes.
  11. Good framer of pitches but terrible at throwing out runners. If base stealing picks up more in this dead ball era, we are in real trouble. I think that the new positioning being taught to have one leg lay practically flat on the ground is impacting the ability to throw out runners. Better start teaching pitchers the slide step NOW. As for his hitting, he has shown a nice swing on his recent homers/doubles. He just needs consistency which I believe will come with more at-bats. I agree with other posters that he, nor Sanchez, should be DH'ing. Lastly, I think his value goes down if/when MLB implements the computerized ball-strike process since framing will not longer be needed.
  12. I agree with the theory of him selling out to hit bombs. Less taxing on his knee when he trots around the bases. He is giving us what he can with the bum knee and I give him credit for that. I think after off-season surgery, we will see the old line-drive-hitting Buck next season.
  13. I liked what I saw of Megill's stuff. He has a dynamite FB and a curve with a lot of break. I think hitters just sit on one of those and wait for it to come. It would be nice if he could mix in a change-up or slider once in awhile. I think he has BP potential, but needs some refinement.
  14. We've got hitting coming out of our ears with some waiting in the wings (E.g. Steer, Sano, Larnach when he returns, etc.). Focus on pitching, especially the bullpen.
  15. I agree that relief pitching is of higher priority. That said, this article is about starters so I vote for either of the Red's starters. Maybe get some feedback from Sonny on which one would fit better in our rotation.
  16. One other item to consider is where the team is at. If it is a playoff team like this year, you may not have the patience to wait for a player to come around. If it is a poor year like last year, you can afford to give players, especially rookies, more time to develop since this is little to nothing to lose.
  17. Wonderful run down and catch by Buck and a BIG play at the PERFECT time. What I question is... was he purposely throwing to Urshela for the triple play or was he off on his throw to second base? If it is the latter, then he was somewhat lucky in how it turned out and I give additional credit to Urshela.
  18. Surprised at how well Archer and Bundy are doing and Sanchez's defense. He is much better than I thought. I am also surprised at the inconsistency of the offense. We have all the tools in the lineup but lack consistency at producing runs. My prediction is that the Arraez wins the batting title, Correa and Buxton get a gold glove, the Twins win the division AND finally break that post season losing streak.
  19. I agree with this approach. Don’t sell the farm to get a long-term option, just get what we need to make it through this year.
  20. Arraez, Correa, Polanco, Buxton, Kiriloff. Like most on this post feel, this order is to get a key hit under pressure. If a HR is needed, Buck moves up the list obviously.
  21. I’d go with Sonny Gray. He is by far our best starter and although he was not available for all his June starts, he was excellent for those he pitched in. I alway look forward to his starts.
  22. Ober and Winder need to be in the rotation. A least one of the low-inning starters (Bundy/Archer) needs to go to the pen and piggy back the other. That allows the one in the pen to still be on a starter rotation and he can warm up just like he would for a start so as to not ruin his routine. I really hope Alcala gets back but doubt Maeda will have time to provide much.
  23. How far off is Maeda as a potential BP guy? He excelled in that role for the Dodgers.
