  1. I guess you didn’t see the part where I said “so far” I also didn’t realize that it’s not allowed to voice concern about an off-season until the offseason is 100% done. Yes, signing a darvish type would be awesome, but that still didn’t prevent the Twins from bringing in bullpen arms better than Zach Duke or Fernando Rodney thus far. If the plan was to not spend any money on RP and only spend it on Darvish and Davis, then I really hope we end up getting them, because if not this is a massive failure of an off season, since the current rotation and pen still as of today look pretty damn bad.
  2. Yankees bring in Cole and Stanton, Twins bring in rodney, Duke and maybe Napoli. Glad we are keeping pace with the other playoff teams. Failing to see how the Falvey off seasons are much different then the Ryan off seasons so far. Maybe it’s not a GM problem and an ownership problem?
  3. Since Mauer has been a Twin the value of the Twins franchise has gone up hundreds of millions of dollars (not saying it's due to him) but his answer to ownership should be 'why don't you just spend more money if you want to win a championship'? I'm getting pretty tired myself of this 'aww shucks, small market club' that some people gobble up hook line and sinker.
  4. The Twins don't need to worry about deferring money on ANY contracts, they make plenty of money and would make plenty of money even with signing Darvish, Mauer (in the future) and other Free Agents.
  5. If just think, if the Twins would have invested the $15 million in bitcoin instead of Park, then we could afford Darvish 30x over with the earnings!
  6. I meant more in terms of people getting all bummed with who they 'lose' But yes, keeping bad players with no future on 25 man rosters is certainly an issue, but for the Twins it hasn't been mutually exclusive to JUST rule 5 guys.
  7. While I'm not a fan of overpaying for pitchers, I personally would love to see the Twins bring in the first and only Persian major league baseball player.
  8. Every year people freak out about the rule 5 and every year we realize it was just a bunch of handringing for nothing.
  9. Will be nice when the Twins sign a good player for once. Rodney can’t be trusted to be a closer. I have PTSD from his time as Mariners closer
  10. Or maybe he wants somewhere with a decent Japanese community like Seattle? SF etc? Doubt it’s becuase an extra hour or two of flight time
  11. Yup, the new FO has been in place for 12+ months now, and the only moves they have made are the following: 1. Sign Jason Castro 2. Trade away our closer at the deadline in a panic move. 3. Resigned (eventually) the AL Manager of the year. Talk is talk. Results are better
  12. Ah yes the “what would you have done as GM” argument. The Twins don’t pay me to be GM, I’m a fan, I don’t gave all the info they do. But they came out a couple weeks ago putting Press out there they were gonna go hard after him, they ended getting cut early like I did from varsity basketball freshman year! Also Texas isn’t on the coast, yet they haven’t been eliminated..........
  13. I’m confident he can be a solid pen arm for us next year. If he turns into an 8th inning guy or a legit 4th starter I would be even more thrilled.
  14. And yet the Rangers still are in the mix, last map I saw had Dallas about exactly as far on the ‘west coast’ as Minnesota. Maybe the Twins never had a shot to begin with, but the FO sure was more than happy to push the news that they were going after him, they pushed that out, not the fans. So if everyone is gonna praise them for “going after/talking to” a guy, they can be criticized when they don’t land them.
  15. Have they done any of those yet? If they do color me excited. But like mentioned, IMO talk is talk. It’s cool we were “in” on Ohtani or whatever, but we didn’t get him. I’m not gonna celebrate the fact that we kind of “tried” Someone should have pointed out that MSP has several non stop flights to Japan everyday
  16. We have no idea who the twins were or were not interested in, TR and his FO notoriously played it close to the vest and didn’t leak much of anything. This FO decided to come out and say they were going hard after Ohtani, but didn’t even end up as a finalist. Basically the same result, just more bluster. I’m a results guy personally. Talk is talk.
  17. Sounds like the new FO could have done a better job then. All I hear is how great and ahead of the curve they are, yet they haven’t made one real move yet to make this team better now or in the future other then Jason castro, who ended up being about a 1.5 WAR guy anyways. All this “talk” about being in on good players is just talk until they actually make a move, color me skeptical for now.
  18. Seattle is the no brainer to get him. Good fit all around, at least he will end up with my #2 team!
  19. The good news is the twins are just as good as ever in being “interested” in great Free Agents. Hopefully one of these days we will sign one!
  20. Well to be fair, it's kinda silly to compare Puckett to Santana to begin with. Puckett was always a sure thing first ballot hall of famer, pretty sure even if he played from 2001-2015 and had the same career it would still be a complete no brainer. Santana is a borderline hall of famer. Hard for anyone to say he is a 'sure thing' one way or another.
  21. Yeah pretty much this. The idea that he would be under pressure because he was the 'best' pitcher on the Twins roster is a little silly. If they bring in Ohtani and no one else, I'm pretty 99.999% sure they give Santana opening day 'ace' start if he is healthy. There are a lot of reasons why Ohtani may not sign here, him being afraid of being the highest upside pitcher on the 2018 opening day roster seems like a stretch...
  22. It matters IMO. Sports is still about winning when it matters most. His fault or not, Santana's post season numbers just weren't very good. 1-3, 3.97 ERA 2004 was different, as he crushed it in his two starts, but unfortunately the Twins gonna Twins...
  23. Puckett had two world series titles and had one of the greatest world series single game performances ever. Santana was elite, but his career got cut short. If I ran the hall of fame, Santana would be in, no doubt about it. But I'm also not going to pretend like it's some crime against humanity when he fails to ever reach even 60% If Santana won a ring or two or had some elite post season run one year? He's probably in. Is it fair? Nah. But that's what sports are. Rings matter.
