  1. Thanks for doing it! Much appreciated. Kind of a ho-hum day, but promising start for Sands. "Like Sands through the hourglass, so are the K's in his lines..."
  2. Hopefully, in a couple of years, Enlow will be at Rochester, and when the wheels are almost off, he pulls a "Stewart," and gets it back together. Fun to watch the phenoms, but also fun to watch others overcome struggles. Blankenhorn, Diaz, Stewart, and a others overcoming that post-prospect hype phase is neat to see.
  3. The Turtle crossing the crossing the finish line is a key motif to this season's storyline. Had we inserted a speedy pinch runner, a la Terrence Gore, he would have been still standing on base as the inning ended. As Gore was. This is basic narrative logic. In my humble reading, anyhow.
  4. I like that I don't feel like the season is ruined because Buxton got hurt (and struck out a few times.). I like that I don't feel that way because Sano is out.I LOVE Astudillo. He may well make the All-Star game if he keeps garnering the attention of national writers. There he is again in the thick of things. That is not luck.I like that every time the Royals scored, the Twins countered.I like the idea that Astudillo will be available to pinch hit for Castro in every close game this year.I like that Astudillo is going to get the start at third base today, at least according to CarnacI like bullet points.
  5. You could have passed it off as some hip new lingo; I wouldn't have known the difference. This team has mojo oozing off of them, traveling through the airways, and into the speaker of my phone. And Astudillo didn't even play. Just wait until La Tortuga is Unleashed!
  6. Although "this" has become overused, if it is possible for an article (?) to get overused,..THIS. Also this--The only thing that has stood out to me in national coverage of the Twins this spring is the widespread love for Astudillo. Falvey's twenty and thirtsomething peers over at the Ringer would lambast him if he sent him to Rochester. While few of us can aspire to be an athlete like Buxton, there can't be a beer leaguer in America who can't see themselves in El Tortugo.
  7. And, right on cue: https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2019/3/20/18272417/red-sox-opening-day-lineup-bullpen-projections-world-series-winner Skip down to get to the bullpen part...they mention Joe Nathan!
  8. Yeah, I feel like May is the closer. He's that "big, bad bull." He's got tenure (on the team at least.). Certainly has the stuff. They're gamboling,(thanks autocorrect) and they are gambling as well. But short of the Yankees approach, it seems almost every bullpen is a gamble. The World Champion's bullpen seems awful to me right now. Presumably, the Twins can turn around and trade Alcala for this year's Pressly when the time comes. If it comes. In the meantime, they aren't doling out contracts to Addison Reed, or Greg Holland, or [insert cherry-picked flamed-out high-dollar reliever here].
  9. So the Twins shouldn't sign Dallas Keuchel this weeK? I wonder the the "pitch" to Perez and his agents went from the various interested teams. "What can I do to get better?" "Take these monies from us, and we'll tell you." The size of the monies indicated the degree of confidence all parties could take in the analysis of the information?
  10. A seemingly not-major injury that didn't "heel" right. Maybe made worse because Sano was too eager to get back at? Murphy's law--he's finally ready to go, and a freak injury at a VICTORY celebration derails him. I'm more worried about Buxton's 3 strikeouts today...
  11. It's the little things that make these so great. It says so much the Twins' management wouldn't pony up for anything stronger than "soapy water" to clean the headgear of cat birthing matter.
  12. Apparently Stu's severance package from SBN has run out already. Should've hired Falvey to manage his money. But I'm glad. It's almost as good as if I somehow found that Tatooeine Luke Skywalker action figure I lost in 1980. Not sure how it would've ever gotten behind the furnace in the first place, but looking there was one of the scariest things I've ever done.
  13. The Twins are on 3 of those lists???? How's this for a thought experiment--shift the Darvish money from the Cubs to the Twins. I'll assume the wins total doesn't shift much or at all, since he was basically out for the year. Cubs look much better though, and the Twins would have spent a lot of money for nothing. Still, it seems to be fair you'd have to get more, um, granular? Like if Darvish wins the Cy Young this year but his contract isn't counted against the Cubs spending this offseason, which is close to nil, right? What then? They look like super-thrifty value shoppers for this year. Nonetheless, in an instant gratification, who-won-the-offseason type of world, this is a fun way to look at things.
  14. Thanks Seth. My mind had wandered and I forgot which thread I was in. And I say that knowing I was one who helped dump gasoline on the Pressley angle.
  15. Pressley may not be in the Santana category of Rule V picks, and there is a long way to go before these guys help, if they ever do--but it does make you realize the Rule V has its value. Four of these guys seem to have some tremendous upside, and the fifth, Wade, seems to have a pretty high floor.
  16. Yeah, this is one of those "they were in on Kimbrel and made an offer but he just didn't accept it" type scenarios. Or they get him on a short bargain deal and he's grumpy and sucks.
  17. Wow. I feel like this list is better than the Top Ten was in the Blackburn years. Nice tidbit on Balazovic--I would say he's the guy to break out into national attention, but I guess Law is way ahead of me.
  18. Boy, you guys are (mostly) a bunch of Red's. I'll be waiting for you on the beach. Falvey is Andy Dufresne, and he's been hollowing out his bible and chipping away at the prison walls for a while now. If it was obvious what he was doing, he would've got caught already. When this happens I want all of you to go outside shirtless in a rainstorm and spin around in circles.
  19. It sounds best when you say it with a Latin infused accent, ala the character from Princess Bride: "I keeled him. Then, I ate him. The ribeye (roll your r) was deelicious." Cold blooded rally snuffing groundout machine. A Colblorsnagram. Some Twins employee must have a dossier on this guy ten inches thick. While it might be a former blogger-come analytics intern, I suspect it just might be Thad Levine. I'm going to choose to believe they have identified their Kluber/Kuechel, and in addition to a few minor mechanical tweaks, they broke his arm and rebuilt it with bionics, using the bull story, as, well--a bull story. Unfortunately, apparently they broke the wrong arm. go twins.
  20. Well, they have a good track record with reclaiming hard-throwing but wild pitchers from the Twins. See: Alex Meyer. We're just a bunch of old farmers sitting around the coffee shop in the cold of winter, arguing about the price of combine parts. The Lukewarm Folgers League.
  21. They've probably got a good idea which guys on the fringe of the 40 man are worth something in a trade, and those that are not. Chances are high that none of those fringe guys will be on the roster when camp opens, let alone by mid-season. When they sign Machado (right!) someone else will get DFA'd, but probably not traded. Ozoria is much more intriguing than nothing. Again, they got Parker and Ozoria for Curtiss.
  22. Great contribution, and excellent user name. I think I've embraced the "middle" this year, with the caveat that I see it as a very much 'half-full' middle that promises plenty of upside coupled with much lower expectations than I had last year--expectations that were so cruelly dashed. I envision a low-stress season full of pleasant surprises.
