  1. It’s the new analytics. It’s “potentially “ under .500! You boomers and your useless “counting” categories. Don’t you understand that keeping track of objective outcomes is useless????
  2. The only way the Twins don’t finish 3rd is if CLE continues to choke.
  3. It’s very possible, even likely that he can get that same contract in 2 years. $70m birds in the hand.
  4. I literally couldn’t care less what the media thinks. Unfortunately, all that hype has made it a runaway train that front offices and managers care about, and that affects what I like about baseball in the sense that I see less and less of it.
  5. This exemplifies everything I hate about analytics. Most of the metrics measure “potential “ outcomes. Apparently, the “counting” categories (you know, counting things that actually happen) are meaningless in today’s game. If we’re only putting value on potential outcomes, why not just have a pro day and hand out the trophies?
  6. Rocco went to the mound briefly after the kerfluffle. The Umps got together, and the home plate umpire very clearly signaled to the scorer that a mound visit had taken place. Not sure what the actual requirements are, but it was noted.
  7. If Larnach hitting .232 and Garlick career .237 are the upgrades…I look forward to next year.
  8. Why not alternate starts by Bundy/Archer with the other pitching second?
  9. Correa would be a fool to not opt back in with the Twins. No way he gets $35M anywhere else. A 7-10 year deal probably isn’t in the cards either. Gordon, Palacios and Kepler for top of rotation arms? You couldn’t get one for all three. Gordon has a short period of offensive competence. Kepler has become a defensive specialist and Palacios hasn’t proven anything.
  10. Maybe the complainants about Rocco’s handling of the staff are getting old because he’s been mismanaging the staff for so long? If he’s the manager next year, the Twins need to get 2-4 guys who can pitch 2-3 middle innings.
  11. This sure seems like a team in disarray. I think a fair question is: Has Rocco lost the clubhouse?
  12. The Angels might be terrible, but the Twins are 2.5 games behind the best of the worst.
  13. My top 3: Buxton, Correa and Polanco. All have been terrible since AS break. They MUST be hurt? Kepler doesn’t have a hit since returning from IL. 0-23 I think.
  14. Welcome to End-Stage Capitalism. It pervades every aspect of US culture. Why should baseball be an exception?
  15. Last I heard, Ober and Winder were just starting to throw off the mound this week. That puts them at least 2-3 weeks out barring set backs. Maeda is the closest, but is coming off TJ, so how much can we expect? Larnach: “Baldelli didn't give out many specifics, so it's not clear if Larnach has resumed baseball activities or will go on a rehab assignment soon. Before being placed on the IL, Larnach had been serving as a regular starter in left field and was slashing .231/.306/.406 with five home runs “. That does not sound like due back… anytime? I know that .231 BA and .406 OPS can probably carry us to the playoffs all by itself, but it is not at all clear we can count on him saving the stretch run.
  16. Irrelevant question. There’s only one way they make it-win the division. VERY likely Maeda, Ober, Winder and Larnach don’t contribute at all the rest of the year. It’s looking more likely Buxton may be heading towards a season ending IL stint than more production. Correa is trending the wrong way. Is he hurt? Let’s see how they do against the Angels this weekend. They’ve been described as “a terrible team” by several on these pages. That still may be significantly better than the best of the worst. (A title the Twins have yet to secure).
  17. If it is “bias”, it isn’t mine. The OP pointed out the marked digression citing metrics. Even if Palacios is a below average replacement, it would come with a $35M savings give or take. As far as professional athletes being pimped out for money, are you even paying attention? It’s a business. The players are the product. No happy ending without the players.
  18. I’m thinking 1-4 and 2nd place after these two series.
  19. Well researched. I hope it works. Without him, we have huge holes at 1st, LF and arguably C. RF is a bit of a ? Too. Max has been a little fragile…
  20. Because they can no longer play the position at an elite level. Not saying Carlos is at that point, but his defense this year, (according to metrics cited in OP) is average. His offense isn’t much better. That begs the question of how much of a drop off is Palacios vs 2022 Correa +35M? Also, based on last years free agent class, ($8.5M when 2+ WAR) Twin’s are over paying Correa about $10M this year give or take. He’d be foolish to opt out.
  21. He is this year. Below average in some defensive metrics. Is it worth $35M to gamble that this year is an aberration? Doesn’t matter as I was wrong about team option.
