  1. Well, to be fair Puckett was taken 3rd overall in the January phase of the draft, after going undrafted in the prior June phase. This means all the teams passed on him for some 40 or 50 rounds the prior summer. He was not considered any kind of serious prospect. So much for the accuracy of scouting.....
  2. Defense is better, and batting averages are suppressed, by the shift. It will be very interesting to see what happens next year when the shift is banned. Kepler might pick up 20-30 points in batting average. Another reason not to trade him now when his value is low.
  3. This team is circling the toilet again in April. I don't know if it is talent, coaching, motivation or what, but someone needs to light a fire under this squad or start tearing it all down. It is totally disheartening to be so non-competitive. The Dodgers made us look like a minor league squad. The Red Sox are clearly better, too. This is simply lousy baseball to watch. I would trade Sano to Colorado for a bag of balls, bring up players from AAA that want to play hard, and take our lumps getting some young players some big league experience.
  4. Brutal call on the slider from Ober. Gotta get that call. Cost them a run at a minimum. Correction, cost them 2 runs.
  5. Like I said on the Sano thread, he needs to go to AAA and, at a minimum, make himself hungry to play in the Big Leagues again. He was so complacent on that little soft liner it is not even funny. Killer error to lead off an inning in Fenway.
  6. Does Sano have an option left? Might not be the worst idea to send him down to AAA to, hopefully, get straightened out.
  7. Duran's stuff is frickin' electric. First batter just put his bat out there and punched it to right. That is probably the best approach. Meat of the order tried to hammer his pitches and were WAY tardy. Exciting young player!
  8. Soooo, the entire source for the rumor that Larnach may be dealt is that he sat out last night's AAA game. But according to the game report, Larnach was pulled due to "muscle tightness" and concerns over playing on a wet field with that condition. Unless the Manager outright lied to the reporter, it had nothing to do with a potential trade. So now we are circling back to what has actually been reported: The Twins like Paddack, and the Padres like Rogers. Whether a deal can be consummated based upon those general parameters is not clear, and it is reported that the "situation is fluid". Stay tuned.
  9. Boy, if they are going to have to send a King's Ransom for Montas, I would prefer to package Kepler and stuff for Meyer of one of the other young Marlin stud pitching prospects. That way at least you have a player for many years, instead of a 1 or 2 year control window. Marlins still looking for center field help, if not Kepler then Centerino and others?
  10. Very stunned with this move. Was gone out-state all day, and came home to learn of this signing. I surmised, like many of us, that they were shifting the Donaladson money to Story. Never dreamed that they would get Correa. Is it likely a one year rental? Sure. Is it still going to make them a much stronger team this year? Absolutely. Me, I would have preferred spending money on FA pitching help, but they have shown a strong reluctance to get tied into long term big money deals for pitchers. The cheating scandal stuff is tough. I hate that they cheated and tainted their accomplishments that season. I also can't stand the steroid era, either. It has been 5 years, so keep him away from trash cans and we should be good. Interesting piece of news to be sure!
  11. I remain completely bewildered as to what this FO is doing this off-season. 1 year $5.5M for Pineda? Seems a total no-brainer deal, much better than Bundy. Are they getting bonuses if they save the Pohlads money or something? Are they saving up for a big splash like Story? What the heck is going on????? This is really getting frustrating.
  12. Do the Twins have someone in the NL lined up to take Sanchez as a DH? What is going on?
  13. At this point I am bewildered, and I think maybe the best thing to do is to wait until the dust settles and the roster is actually finalized before passing judgment. The Twins now have Sanchez's payroll coming off the books next year so they basically have a Pirates-level payroll committed at this point. If the Twins blow our minds and sign Correa tomorrow, that would certainly change the team substantially. Not holding my breath, but they certainly can afford it now!
  14. I am very confused. Are we actually trying to compete this year or not? If we are, why the heck didn't we spend some money on front line FA starters? Those just cost us money, not prospects. Now we are mortgaging our future for good starters with only 2 years of team control. Bizarre. I would be down for a move like this if we had Gray for 4 or 5 years, but he is gone in 2023, if we don't flip him earlier. What is this front office doing?
  15. I like Kikuichi just because I still believe it is good to have a lefty starter to change up the rotation. Agree he is a 3 at best. Big Mike seems logical, and he has apparently enjoyed pitching here. No other pitchers remaining really move the needle, and if we are going that route we might as well see what the crop of younger pitchers in hand can offer. The move I really want is to swap a bat or bats to the Marlins for Meyer. He seems to have potential top of the rotation stuff, and he pitched at the U. Very wary of trading for the older arms from the A's, there is a reason they are recycling their talent at this point.
  16. 2 years, $44M with the Giants. I am not sure he would have taken anything similar with the Twins, not a powerhouse contender. Good deal for the GMen. At least he is gone from our half of the league....
  17. Reporting today indicates compromises on the International Draft/QO dispute, and pretty darn tiny gaps on the economic issues. If they can simply split the difference on those, a deal could get done today or tomorrow. I am really looking forward to some baseball this spring. so put this deal to bed folks.
  18. I thought I read a blurb somewhere that the Rays were considering releasing Glasnow when faced with paying his arbitration salary in 2022 (for nothing) and then a bigger arbitration salary in 2023 on spec. Total of nearly $9M for a limited number of innings in 2023 coming off TJS, with unknown results. And that number could go up higher with the new CBA. Heck, Glasnow might be a FA in 2023 under the new CBA, not arbitration eligible. I certainly would take a flyer for a nominal prospect, but nothing like the package listed by the OP. No. Way.
  19. MLB, can you explain what you mean by "they would also change the distribution of revenue sharing to include a component based on player payroll"? This sounds intriguing.
  20. Can you imagine Sano playing half his games in Coors Field or Fenway? He could hit 50 HR's. Part of this evaluation is also contingent on how the rest of the lineup is going. If the Twins are producing runs, it is easier to carry Sano during his down times and enjoy his hot streaks. If we are struggling, he is tougher to carry. Let him play out his contract this year, hope he does beautifully, and then exercise the option or even extend. If someone comes in with a strong offer, make a decision then. I certainly would not be shopping Sano at this point. Guys with his type of power do not grow on trees.
  21. Duffy is out until at least June, but he could be an option at a reduced cost and some possible mid-season insurance.
  22. Martin for Max Meyer, straight up. Who says no? Marlins need hitting, Twins need pitching.
  23. Suzuki is intriguing, but there is simply zero buzz that the Twins have even entered the fray for his services. It would make too much sense: reasonable contract, apparently good player, and no players lost in acquisition.
  24. How about trading Martin for Meyers from the Marlins? Both terrific prospects, bat for arm? We need pitching, they need hitting. Fair trade?
