  1. Those 4 would get you hung up on by the Nats, IMO. If Soto is traded, it is going to be a total blockbuster.
  2. I am not even sure I would trade Smeltzer for 2 months of Syndergaard straight up.
  3. I want the Twins to convert bat depth for controllable pitching. No rentals, please. And if someone wants ANY of our short-term players, even Correa, I am listening. Not shopping, but listening to offers that help cement our team's future.
  4. But relief pitchers are not valued as highly as starters. Still, Bednar will be quite costly. Interesting that Atlanta solved their 40-man crunch by trading 3 minor league prospects for KC's 35th overall comp pick. Seems like the type of move the Twins should be exploring, too.
  5. I don't think Martin gets you Bednar, who is also my first choice in relief pitcher trade targets. I am thinking you will need to pony up something like Miranda, and that may not be enough....but I really want him on the Twins, the sooner the better.
  6. That San Diego trade has turned out nasty for the home squad. Yuck!
  7. Gordon has been watching the White Sox run the bases the last couple days, apparently....
  8. I want to Twins to add relief help, and, being greedy, I want Bednar from the Pirates. The guys is a stud, controlled though 2027, and, best of all, can get the Yankees out at the end of the game. His stuff is electric. Will be costly, but he could pitch for the Twins for the next 6-8 years. Git'r Done Boys.
  9. Trying to avoid injury to key players on very wet field?
  10. If they asked the ChiSox, I don't think they want to stick around on the remote chance they can score 6 runs with only 5 ours remaining. Certainly the Twins want to dry out and get to sleep before the matinee tomorrow.....
  11. The Twins have lost 36 games to date. The Bullpen has lost 15 games where they inherited a lead and blew it, sometimes more than once. That is about 42% of the losses. Setting aside the demoralizing psychological impact of all these blown leads and games, this strikes me as an amazingly high percentage and number of blown games so far into a season. Is this inordinately high, or is it just recency bias because of the Cleveland debacle?
  12. First, what about substituting Celestino for Kepler? Second, I am not in any way suggesting this is the only move for the Twins. I still want them to add bullpen help. I just view this as an opportunity to upgrade the entire system for some short term financial pain (which I don't pay for!) Are the values way off?
  13. MLB Trade Rumors has a lengthy piece discussing the Padres situation. They have the 5th best record and run diff in baseball, but are right up against the luxury tax threshold and have next to no production from CF and DH. The general framework for the trade is to remove some cap from the Padres, get them help for CF and corner OF and focus on their win now approach. The approach for the Twins is to absorb some salary (short-term), balance their roster, drop some guys from the potential 40 man due to their impending crunch, and continue to build the pipeline for the future. Just spit-balling here, but: Padres send Will Myers, Luis Campusano, James Wood and Jarlin Susana. Twins send Max Kepler, Austin Martin, Spencer Steer and Aaron Sabato. Trying to be fair to both teams. Myers is a negative asset, the 3 young Padres include a stud AAA catcher and 2 younger, promising prospects. Padres get Kepler who can play both CF and corner OF, Martin who can play LF or utility, Steer who is tearing up the minors, and Sabato as a potential DH down the road. Thoughts?
  14. I love to watch this guy bat. First, watch his eyes. He is the only player I know that is looking at the 3rd baseman before every pitch, judging where he can drive the ball safely into left field, sometimes when the pitcher has already started his wind up. Plus, he is so joyful. Constantly talking to and hugging his teammates, other team's players, joking, etc. Who doesn't want to see that? Finally, he sees many pitches. He would be a perfect fit on the top of a Yankees order, driving pitchers crazy, working the count, and driving up pitch count. We are fortunate to have such a fun and talented player to enjoy watching play.
  15. Twins have SCALDED about a half dozen balls right at defenders. Literally, with the shift banned next year, they could have 4 or 5 runs. Massively snake bit tonight.
  16. Second-guessing the reliever sequence here. Why not Duran vs. the meat of the order, Pagan against the tail end of the order?
  17. I also would rather see Kiriloff at 1B against staunch right handers than Miranda. Like Miranda's potential, but he is a butcher at 1B and he has been chasing high fastballs for quite a while now---the book is out.
  18. Danchat, you bunt to take the double play off the table and move the second runner into scoring position, too. Then when Gio hit his ball you score a run and probably advance to 3rd where who knows what happens.....
  19. That is probably ball game the way the Twins are hitting tonight. Darnit! Should have been up in this game!
  20. 1st and 2nd, nobody out, very tough pitcher on the mound. Is it too "old school" to lay down a freakin' bunt these days? Cost them at least 1 run (assuming Kepler even remembers how to bunt). Kepler has been good this year with RISP, but this guy looks tough as nails out there and we needed to score.....
  21. My read on this is that they needed an infielder with Polanco and Gordon both dinged up. They want to temporarily promote a player they are not worried about losing when they move him back down, hence Soto. Hopefully Kiriloff is up in the Majors to stay once they bring him up, but they do have a roster crunch right now. Trading some hitting for pitching makes sense, and I mentioned on another thread that the Marlins would be a logical trade partner as they have lots of pitching and need hitting.
  22. DJL44, it was a check swing on a pitch called a ball. But the batter's check swing did slightly contact Sanchez's glove, so they awarded him 1st base after a Seattle challenge. Never seen that before.....
  23. I think they need to be on the phone with the Marlins to try and trade hitting for pitching. We have lots of the former, and they have lots of the latter.....
  24. Tony Oliva prior to knee injury was silky smooth. Puckett was a freak of nature. Buxton is certainly up there.
