  1. Literally not a single person has slotted him in above 4th on the staff. We don’t like this deal because he solidifies the top of out rotation we like this deal because as your 4th/5th starter he’s a good combination of experience and upside. And the contract is super palatable. The only way this signing can be viewed negatively is if you project the assumption that this is our biggest pitching signing.
  2. You say “treading water” I say “keeping the best parts of a 101 win team with still plenty of money, time, and players available to make upgrades”
  3. From ESPN’s article: In 14 starts prior to the suspension, Pineda was 10-4 with a 2.96 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 82 innings.
  4. I don't believe there are adequate words in the English language to describe how much I disagree with this take. Usually the Germans have good words for extreme emotions. I'll see if Kepler can help me out.
  5. Seems to me that Keith Law changes his tune on Lewis's defense about twice a year.
  6. I'd trade Kirilloff and Lewis and not even blink. That's incredible value for Chapman. Chapman already is at 3rd base what we all dream of Buxton being in CF. Incredible defense with really good offense. I believe it was Baldelli that said Chapman is the best 3b defender he's ever seen.
  7. My thought from “Offseason Blueprint: Bet the Farm”..... Chapman for Buxton, Kirilloff, and Balazovic. It’s painful and seems like a little much, which probably means it’s just right
  8. This was a missed opportunity... “The CJ Cronundrum”
  9. Obviously Cole is the big stretch here. Wheeler (5/100) & Ryu (3/60) might be more realistic and cost close to the same as Cole in total AAV. You could still do the Boyd trade and he’d nudge Dobnak out of the lineup. Since were betting the farm here.... let’s do it. Wheeler Berrios Ryu Odorizzi Boyd Let’s play
  10. Since we are going for broke.... Do everything you said but Move Sano to 1st Trade Buxton, Kiriloff, Balazovich for Matt Chapman (who says no?) Sign a defense-first CF free agent That’s roughly payroll neutral to the original proposal
  11. Could be... but where is the point where the Twins (or any other team) would deem it an acceptable risk. I'm sure Dyson doesn't want to go an entire calendar year without getting paid. Sign him to: 2020 - $2M 2021 - $3M That's probably a little more than is necessary, but that probably gets it done on Dyson's side. At that point you're competing against all 29 other teams, so a little overpay (if you want him) will likely be required. You might get Dyson toward the tail end of 2020 and you'd have him for 2021. If Dyson gets fixed, then $5M is worth it. If he's not fixed, then you're lighting $5M on fire.
  12. Interesting thought experiment.... Would you rather have: Odo and Pineda - for $36M or Cole and Smeltzer - for $36M Feel free to replace Smeltzer with any of the other guys like him (Thorpe, Gonsalves, etc)
  13. Except he's had league average start duration, but above average start results.
  14. Here's a link to an MLB Trade Rumors article about potential QO Players. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/09/forecasting-the-qualifying-offer-market.html
  15. Seven QO in 2018. https://www.mlb.com/news/list-of-players-who-got-qualifying-offers-c300130990 Keuchel Corbin AJ Pollack Grandal Ryu Harper Kimbrel Ryu was the only one to accept it. Nobody else ended up with their original team
  16. Yep. This. If the Twins want him back, the best way to accomplish that would be to use the QO as leverage. Not in a mean way, but as a "Listen, Jake, we want you back, but we can't let you go for nothing, so if we can't come to agreeable extension, then we're going to have to QO you." Perhaps he calls their bluff and doesn't mind the 18M 1 year deal. I mean, that's obviously more than he'd get for AAV on the open market. And on a 1 year deal I doubt the Twins would be too worried about that $18M either. Not the ideal spend of $18M, but very little overall risk associated with it.
  17. Only ONE TIME has Ober given up more than 1 run in a game this year. Not even just earned runs.... any kind of runs. July 14th must haunt him. 3 whole earned runs
  18. I mean, I agree with you that it would be incredibly surprising to see him called up, but.... why not? Obviously we've got some 40-man implications, but for a second let's just ignore those. Ober has never not dominated. Never. The only thing is, he can't stay healthy. Maybe he's injury prone, maybe he's just been really unlucky, but right now, he's healthy. Once someone is making a joke of AA, then for me, it's time to try them out in the majors. Maybe the guy's body has 1000 good innings in it. Then let's get as many of those 1000 at the major league level as possible
  19. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhd Bleeeeessssssssssss Amerrrrrrrrrrrrricaaaaaaaa.....
  20. What is it about year 4 that makes you say that? Almost all of our top 10 prospects are at AA or higher. With a reasonable hit rate and the remaining players from our current roster, the window should be longer than 3 years. Not that I think that should preclude us from acting aggressively now, I’m just curious why you think the window is that short.
  21. Generally, I agree with you, but the existence of Ian Kennedy and his contract makes us relatively sure that if the Twins were willing to pony up money (and almost nothing in terms of prospects), they could make a significant improvement to the bullpen. For most other guys, I agree with you. You never know what other teams are asking for.
