  1. Very polite, funny and hard working. shrimp make him go "POOF" but he could do a number on cookies and cream ice cream. After watching him eat 3 bowls of Fruit Loops for breakfast, I took away the cereal bowl and handed him a 2 quart serving bowl. His eyes lit up and he said "for me?"
  2. When he pitched in Elizabethton in 2012, he pitched at night, in the mountains and next to the Doe River. Many nights in August, by the 6th inning, I have my sweater on. BTW, it rains here too. He will be fine. I just hope Jannieliz and Valentina are there for his 1st game.
  3. As long as nobody feeds him shrimp and there is plenty of Fruit Loops and Cookies and Cream ice cream, he will be fine.
  4. Made it with 30 days to spare! His goal was to be in the majors when he was 21. I am so proud of him.
  5. The catching help is playing AAA for the Brewers. Pinto hit 2 doubles today and got a walk. I think it was a bad move to release him. I am wondering if Vavra is doing his job as hitting coach. My two (Eddie and Miguel) need to take as much blame as the rest of the team. Oswaldo is doing better than I expected.
  6. When Miguel was in Elizabethton in 2011, he was listed at 6'3" and 232#. The only thing he could say in English the 1st night was, "Will I get enough to eat here?" Not a problem! I had a houseful that year, which also included Eddie and Kennys. I would take 2 buggies through the grocery store every week.
  7. 3/5 from Casa Shell. This could be a good count down. 19 days until spring training...just saying!
  8. I've got to show mi hijos grandes some love. Kennys and Miguel are both great guys and I think (remember who this is coming from) very talented baseball players. Kennys has been working very hard between the Puerto Rican WInter League and his personal conditioning and I know Miguel is continuing to improve his work ethic. Keep Miguel at 3rd, I've never seen him in the OF and hopefully Kennys can move up when Mauer FINALLY retires.
  9. Ortiz was placed on the Elizabethton Roster December 29. Silva is very good and hard working. Had a bit of trouble during the start of his season in Elizabethton last year. He was not used to playing in the cool mountain evenings and his prescription goggles fogged up during games. Once he switched to contacts, he did great. Very nice kid - I wish him well.
  10. 1. I guess when I go to spring training every March and the "boys" yell mama's here! I receive some strange looks from the other fans. 2. I think when I make my 1st trip to Minnesota to see the kids play in a major league park. Just seeing them on TV is very exciting.
  11. I hope he gets every DIME. He's a wonderful kid who has had HUGE family responsibilities since he was 16 years old. I just called him a kid again . 6'4" and 270# - I guess he's not a kid anymore.
  12. when Miguel lived with me, he was 6'3" and 232#. He was massive for a barely 18 year old. He was SOLID. Imagine your grocery bill with him, Kennys, Eddie and Jairo at the same dining room table. Don't let him fool you, Eddie pound for pound has just as hearty of an appetite as Miguel or Kennys. BTW, 93 days until I head for Fort Myers....miss my kids.
  13. I can not see Miguel in the OF. He was finally getting a handle on 3rd. When he played in Elizabethton, his throws to 1st were terribly wild, My husband was taking pictures of him standing behind the 1st base dugout. Kennys was playing 1st base. He fielded the ball and in his attempt to throw the guy out at 1st, he hit my husband with the throw while he was standing behind the dugout. The poor kid was worried he wasn't going to get anything to eat after the game. Gotta love my kids.
  14. That is really odd that he did the interview in Spanish. His Engish was good when he lived here in 2013
  15. We have 8 on the 40 man roster for the Twins and Pinto was recently sent to the Padres. I started "watching" baseball with my Dad when I was 3 weeks old. He would prop me in the corner of the couch with pillows and we would watch baseball Saturday afternoons on TV. I use to cook for the team a couple of times a season. I lived in Miami for 13 years, so I am able to whip out Latin cuisine (except Kennys says that I am a "rookie" when I make rice.) We were short host families in 2008 and my insurance agent volunteered as housing coordinator for the Elizabethton Twins. I got a phone call "I know you have 4 bedrooms and no kids...I need your help!" We keep Latins because we are a 5 minute walk from the park and they obviously don't have cars. Over the last 8 years we have had around 50 boys either live here or clean out the refrigerator on a regular basis. They make a whopping $4.11/hour in the Appalachian League - so the refrigerator is open to all who are hungry. Currently, we are remodeling the upstairs bedrooms for the boys. It's only 203 days until "Baseball Time" in Elizabethton!
  16. When he was here in 2012 - he was very disciplined. 1st one asleep at night and usually up eating Fruit Loops when I left for work in the morning. Really nice kid with a beautiful wife and gorgeous baby girl. He is a very hard worker, I already have his major league placard printed for the wall upstairs when he makes it to Minnesota.
  17. Congratulations to Miguel for being a finalist for the AL Rookie of the year. Results to be announced on Friday.
  18. Kennys was a great help to me. He and Eddie spoke very good English, but he was the main translator for Miguel until Miguel got some English skills. Kennys has a great sense of humor and the BEST laugh. It's quite amusing to be at spring training and he yells "Mama is finally here".
