  1. So Charlie Barnes learned the classis lesson on how to pitch to the Yankees--walk a bunch of hitters and then give up a hit. It is true that the data are miserable against the Yankees over the years. One stat I am quite interested in is the number of walks issued by the Twins in comparison to the number issued by the Yankees during that stretch. I would be willing to bet that the difference is ghastly.
  2. Nice summary :-). Kepler only produces in one game out of five, so it is still baffling why he continues to lead off.
  3. I can't figure out why Kepler remains in the leadoff spot. It's starting to irritate me to see his name at the top of the box score. He's a great defender, but a .300 OBP leading off? That's worse than Sano! (Maybe he agreed to wash Baldelli's car on the weekends?) How about calling up Jimmy Kerrigan? He couldn't be worse at the plate than Kepler who has been woeful against lefties and simply mediocre against righties. Kerrigan is also a competent fielder.
  4. I still cannot understand why Kepler over Arraez as the the leadoff hitter. Arraez has an outside chance at the batting title, but (as was so astutely pointed out by others on TD) he may not get enough PAs. That's just one reason. He also has the highest OBP on the team and he doesn't strike out much (unlike Kepler).
  5. I'd rather see someone whiff with the bases loaded than commit an error. The Twins have committed the most errors!! That must be corrected.
  6. I'm still somewhat be baffled by having Kepler lead off. Why not switch Kepler with Arraez? We have a player whose OBP is approaching .400 and he is hitting five?
  7. Jack Morris was awesome in that Game 7, but lest we forget, he owes an assist to Greg Gagne and Chuck Knoblauch for pulling that Little League stunt of pretending to start a double play on the drive that Pendleton hit to left field for a double. Just for a half second, Lonnie Smith stopped and looked at the infielders and ended up at 3rd instead of scoring. It was just one more reason the game was a true classic and that team had something special.
  8. We need to sign Cruz again next year as a DH or even as a counselor or maybe as a sleep consultant for the napping room. Otherwise, he'll continue to terrorize the Twins.
  9. As I grow tired of waiting for Kepler to blossom, why don't we call up JImmie Kerrigan? His eye at the plate seems to be much improved from past seasons, and I'm sure he can hit lefties better than Kepler at the moment--considering Kepler seems to make little or NO contact against lefties.
  10. The problem with moving Polanco over to SS is then we are returned to a very poor defense up the middle. Polanco has seemed to regain his skills as a decent hitter but he is still a subpar fielder--especially bad at SS and extremely bad in the late innings of tight games. His late inning flubs have cost the Twins plenty including the loss to the Astros in Game 1 of last year. Moving Sano over to 3rd is even a less attractive idea. He moves around like a sofa without casters. I can accept that at 1st base (somewhat), but not at 3rd. I know there has been a lot of carping about Simmons at SS, but none from me. I knew he was a bad hitter--maybe not as bad as he has been, but I never advocated getting him for his bat. I wanted his glove. (Think Mark Belanger. One of the reasons the bygone Orioles were so good was their defense was stellar both on the infield and in the outfield.) Personally, I want to keep Sano. If he can get his head screwed on straight, he can be a devastating asset. If he can't, we can eat his 12 million dollars as Bean5302 has mentioned, it won't break the bank.
  11. Thanks for this. BTW, is Hackimer on the IR or something? I know he wasn't effective when he first arrived in St. Paul, but I haven't heard a word about him for a long while.
  12. As my brother-in-law likes to say whenever he's asked if he likes the food: "I'll let you know later."
  13. This kind of play is abysmal. How did we sink this low so fast? You can blame the bullpen, the starting pitchers, hitting with runners in scoring position, fielding and ghastly running mistakes on the bases...something has to give. It is unfathomable to me that this team can be this bad in one season. They do very little right. This isn't the Wednesday night beer league or is it?
  14. Are we still looking for an acronym/nickname for the bullpen? How about DEA (Don't Expect Anything!)?
  15. Indeed! You can't believe a word you hear from either camp because there are the politics for show and below the surface lies the realities, which are oft times 180 degrees different.
  16. The home plate umpire made the case for robot umpires. Hey they could do a little dance after called third strikes or say, "Good eye!" when batters drew a walk. It doesn't have to be boring...In any case, whoever was behind the plate today could use a robot or two to help out. (Sano was called out on a pitch that was at least two inches outside--the previous strike was about one inch outside--and Rogers got the called third strike on a pitch that was about four inches above the strike zone.) (I got to watch the game and everyone was sad because Ohtani was given the day off. )
  17. I've liked the Rays for many years, so I am happy he went there. I imagine he will be terrorizing the Twins soon enough.
  18. Bad teams (and the Yankees) usually have these kinds of 'incidents.'
  19. Love to see minor leaguers with strike zone awareness. I never complain about players taking too many walks. Thanks Seth for pointing out that Julien and Sabato are league leaders in walks. ...and thank you Matt for your take on the games.
  20. Was this game as unexciting as the box score would indicate?
