  1. Interesting exercise. Some interesting names. Kiriloff aside, a guy I'm really curious about is Ober. To see if he can continue to have success as he climbs the ladder. On a side note, just how stinking cool is it that we can head to St.Paul and watch Twins prospects in a fun environment the Saints provide?!
  2. If Buxton is healthy....he might be the best CF in all of baseball.
  3. I honestly don't see why their "window" can't stay open. The core is still pretty young in baseball years and reinforcements seem to be on the way in guys like Kiriloff, Larnach, Lewis, Duran, Balezovic, etc.. Berrios is only 26. The FO has shown an ability to build a bullpen and make shrewd moves (Maeda trade, signing PIneda while he was recovering from TJ, etc.). The Pohlads have shown a willingness to allow the FO to spend when they see fit (Donaldson, Cruz, Simmons, Colome, Berrios extension?). I think the next several years are going to be a lot of fun.
  4. You don't need analytics to tell you Jeffers is solid behind the plate....the eye ball test is sufficient. Since he and Garver will split duties, I'm very comfortable with his offense. The throwing should improve with MLB coaching. He seems to on an upward arc both offensively and defensively.
  5. As a pair, Garver/Jeffers put the Twins at the top in the division. But certainly can't argue that Salvy and Grandal are the top two catchers individually.
  6. Jeffress on a 1yr/$2mil deal and let Dobnak start in St.Paul seems like a good combo of moves to me.
  7. Essentially the 2021 version of Homer Bailey. So if Shoemaker wins 5th spot out of ST, so Dobnak and Smeltzer go to St.Paul as depth for when injuries hit? I believe Thorpe is out of options?
  8. I LOVE the Simmons move and how that should improve the defense. Now, if we could only get 130 games in CF for Buxton and the same from Donaldson at 3B. As for the offensive dip last year, the soap box I've been on for more than a year was how much they would/have missed James Rowson. There. I'm done now.
  9. -40 wind chill outside and we're talking Spring Training!! Can't friggin wait!!
  10. If an addition is someone like Shoemaker, I think they may as well go with the combo of Dobnak/Thorpe/Smeltzer....maybe Duran later in the season. I just don't think Shoemaker improves the rotation as it stands now other than making it a little deeper....and that's using the term "deeper" pretty liberally. I am 100% in the Odorizzi camp...he actually makes the rotation better b/c you push Happ to the #5 slot.
  11. Meh. Was kind of hoping they would bring in Foltynewicz on a minor league deal.
  12. If they were willing to take Waddell of the roster, I thought it might be for a reliever like Greene or Jeffress. I think this moves tells us the FO is content with the collection of relievers they have on the 40-man. So Hamilton or Anderson get the final bullpen spot? Or might they keep Smeltzer or Thorpe as a long man/opener?
  13. Holy Cow I like this idea. At the very least, could possibly turn Kuhl into a solid reliever if he fails as a starter. And I even like the idea of floating Rooker, Thorpe, Smeltzer, etc., to get it done. I loved how Rooker looked last year, but he's at the age where he needs to be in the majors and I just don't see a spot for him here. In 2022, we could very easily see Sano as a DH, Kiriloff at 1B and Larnach in LF.
  14. Javier and Severino are names I'm keeping an eye on. If either or both of them "figure it out", that just deepens the farm system with either a player they can use in 2022 or 2023 and beyond, or provides them with another trade chip to help the big league club.
  15. A few thoughts. I think this is really close. 1) Interesting to not see Smeltzer or Thorpe in the pen. I can go either way on them. If they still have options, could see them on the St.Paul Shuttle until they had to clear waivers. 2) Rotation is one injury away from disaster...unless Duran or Balezovic are able to fill in. Would rather see one of them than Smeltzer or Thorpe over a long stretch. Suspect we'd see one of the lefties if it were for a start or two. 3) Listing Astudillo as a catcher may be off. With Garver and Jeffers, Tortuga should never be behind the plate. I can't imagine Polanco or Arraez wouldn't be better than him at 3B. I think I'd start him in St.Paul. 4) Sad reality is that with the current CBA on service time, Kiriloff starts in St.Paul. 5) Man, I can't wait for baseball!!!
  16. If I had to bet money, Dobnak is the fifth starter. Thorpe sticks in the 'pen to start the year. Smeltzer heads to AAA if he has options left? Recent moves look to simply be in preparation for the Target Field-to-St.Paul-and-back train. We know from past history that the organization is going to use at least a dozen different relievers over the course of the season.
  17. Another guy who should greatly benefit from the Twins' improvement defensively.
  18. If we're hoping for another starter, think we're looking at something like a Foltynewicz on a minor league deal.
  19. Twins are in win-now mode. Cruz needs to be brought back. We need to see Rooker in a bigger sample size than 2020 to see if he could handle the larger role. Don't love the idea of mixing and matching at DH either. Cruz is a presence in the middle of the lineup that can't be replicated by a mixture of guys. If the money doesn't go to Cruz, it'd better go to pitching.
  20. I'm kinda glad Eddie stays in Central. He had a lot of fans here and now they'll get to see him again. Have no doubt the Eddie Rosario fan club out in the LF bleachers will be happy to see him
  21. "The Twins didn’t trade for Blake Snell. Or Yu Darvish. Or Joe Musgrove....or Sonny Gray. Or Luis Castillo...."
  22. I love this move. Have loved Simmons for years. This is gonna help the pitching without much, if any, sacrifice offensively. Two of Simmons, Polanco and Arraez starts in the middle infield. I also love the ide'a of having Arraez available as a pinch hitter when he doesn't start.
