As the second half of the minor league seasons got started for Minnesota Twins affiliates on Tuesday, a fun observation I made while perusing the games on MiLB.tv was that I have been to one at every stadium the full-season teams were playing at. The actual games were not that fun to observe however, as every team lost, including the Wind Surge who had a decent lead late. At least the Cedar Rapids Kernels were spared that fate due to rain (but they are currently winning!).

Despite some quality pitching performances, there was a farm-wide drought at the plate across the Twins Minor League System on Sunday. That didn't stop Jake Cave from another impressive performance and the Mighty Mussels from getting a shutout win!

The incoming July month marks two important dates: the Fourth of July and the trade deadline. The first is an American celebration of freedom and liberty, where all across the political spectrum eschew their governmental criticisms and appreciate the uniquely American pastime of blowing your hand off in a firework accident. The second is a time when contending teams acquire relievers. 

A lot of people hit homers today, like a lot; someone hit a walk-off, Chris Sale pitched against a team in the low minors, and someone else hit two homers. Read all about that and more in this edition of the minor league report.

Like the previous Gary Sánchez article, inspiration struck while I was writing the recent Minor League Week in Review piece. While skimming stats, I noticed that Matt Wallner had eight steals on the year. Wallner? Eight steals? Wasn’t he a big, lethargic slugger? Something seems afoot. I took a quick dive, and as it turns out, some interesting steal-related movements are occurring in the Twins’ minor league system.

There were close games that went both ways for Minnesota Twins affiliates in their series openers on Tuesday, but it was a slugger in double-A that stole the show with a pair of home runs. This continued a torrid stretch that you need to start paying attention to, if you haven’t been already.

Minor league divisions across the country are finishing up their first-half schedules.
