Boras and Correa want the best deal period. I do think Correa would prefer being in a big market (Dior anyone?).  I also believe Cohen wants him, The issue is the years and insurance, and my belief that as rich as Cohen is, he is tapped out on Salary for the next couple years. If clauses have the potential to wipe out the last 4-5 years of the deal, this is really a 200 million offer.  At that point a higher AAV deal with shorter amount of years makes sense and I think the Twins would play in that playground.  Odds are both sides give a little and Correa officially becomes a Met, however I am ready for the next chapter of this Soap opera.  

I think this offseason has been embarrassing for our front office.  The Twins need to find success through development.  Even if we got Correa look at the AL East and big market players.  The strategy needs to be developing players and stocking the farm. Instead this front office has created a team that can't win an awful division while managing to deplete the farm system.  Sorry guys but it's time to rebuild, restock, and move on.  

I will say the team has a competitive rotation.  But there's still no ace to win a postseason game.  Correa doesn't solve it...just like he didn't last year.

I agree with your premise, bolded above.

However, when your top prospects are constantly on the DL, it's tough: Lewis, Kiriloff, Larnach, Canterino, along with the star, Buxton.

And when others under-perform, tougher still: Balazovic, Martin.

I think your strategy is shared by the front office, but what to do when nobody can play because of hurts?

Why do we need to move on?  If we can get back in and get Correa that will be a big win for 2023 Twins.  Sure we’re are likely a willing pawn in this but until he is a Met we still have a chance.  Also we provide an opportunity to stay at SS while he has to move to third with the Mets.  Anyways I can watch this play out through spring training if need be cause what else are the Twins gonna do?  A rebuild?

Of course, if the Twins get Correa is a big win for the Twins. But I am skeptical. Consider the source: Heyman, otherwise known as "The voice of Boras".

This is all a ploy by Boras to get the Mets deal finished. He's not coming back here.

That's why the team or teams aren't named directly.

To be clear, the NY Post article says that Boras has checked in with other teams.  Twins are one of the teams "in contact" with Boras.  The article doesn't say that the Twins "have contacted" Boras.  Boras seems to be reaching out to the Twins, not visa versa.

I am wondering at this point should we even want to sign him to the 10 year deal offered?  Two mega spending teams had basic terms and balked after seeing his physical.  The reports I have read are Mets want and injury opt out if his leg does act up down the road.  That is one of the main things being discussed.  I am also wondering if the insurance companies will not cover the contract if that is the injury that happens.  Contracts like these have insurance for the team generally, meaning if the player gets a career ending injury or several seasons, insurance will pay the contract and not the team.  However, the physical may raise enough of a red flag for insurance to say we will not take on the risk, and that is why teams are balking, because if the injury does act up, they are fully on the hook for a guy that is not playing. 

If he wanted to play here, he would already be here. After the excitement of joining the team last year has faded, along with the FO really having no plan on how to proceed after, this story is really getting old and not productive in any manner

Maybe this type of deal has already been discussed with the Mets. But it sure is looking like Carlos is either going to have

to accept a deal like this, or something like the deal he had in place with all kinds of protections, etc against his injury. 

Correa Rinse Cycle Story ... Nothing to see here, just Boras doing his job to leverage and push the Mets to get it done.  Please just move on

Let's hope Mets finally sign Correa.  Then hopefully we can move on from this fiasco.  IMO we need much more than Correa to be considered serious contenders.  If the Giants and Mets are concerned about his physical health shouldn't the Twins be as well?  No more deals with opt out clauses!!  It's a joke and hurts Twins, not help.  If you are going to invest millions on a player then the commitment shouldn't be one sided.  He never has wanted to make a commitment here at all unless it benefitted him only.  Don't get used again, Twins.  Forget Correa and make some real additions that improve your team.

Pretty sure I'd rather have him at 10/285. 5 years $60M for his ages 33-38 seasons is pretty cheap. $12M will barely get you a starting infielder in 2028.

I agree they need more than Correa, but can't Correa be part of it? It's not like they're spending free agent dollars anywhere else. They have enough free cash flow to pay Correa's entire 10 year contract over the next 3 seasons.

Yes, maybe. I just feel like he will be all but worthless those last 5 years. Maybe 5/200 would be better. My point is we have alot of young cheap guys right now, so spend it while we can. Later in that contract, maybe we will be giving that extra money to Lewis.?

It is sort of hilarious how we basically have Zombie Correa Free Agency: it never truly ends.

Would I take Correa, even with the potential risks that have started cropping up with the medicals from both the Giants & the Mets? yes, because with the Twins as a FA destination...you have to take some risks. Correa answers a lot of questions for the twins in the short term, even with the medicals. Hilariously, it would instantly take the Twins from a bad off-season to a pretty great one in one swing.

If you told everyone in early December the Twins were going to sign Correa, Vasquez, and Gallo the response would have been: "wow!" followed by "wait, how does Gallo fit on this roster?" and we'd be spending all our time trying to figure out if Kepler's being traded and for what...

I don't think it's going to happen. There's some noise, but in the end I think there's barely any chance that Correa ends up back here, so I'm viewing the whole thing with a sort of eye-rolling bemusement.

The Twins will run into the same issues as the Mets regarding insurance coverage.  It would have to be a different insurance  company than the Mets and have differing actuarial tables that would allow us to offer different years/amounts than the Mets.  Otherwise, this comes down to his choice of teams/locations.
