2022 MLB Draft Day 3 Thread

Honestly I am not expecting much from day three.  If the Twins can find some more guys like last year: Fedko, Festa, Nowlin, Parades, Perez and Ohl then that would be pretty darn good.

If I had my wish it would be to find some younger guys at the high school level or JC and develop them in the system.  They get a chance to mold them that way and they have the equipment to help them develop faster IMO.  Still finding a few guys that might make difference in those rounds would be good enough for me. 

We all know that unfortunately about 90% of these picks are not going to make it.  Some will get very, very close and more than half will wipe out fairly early.  It is a hard long road to become the best of the best and then get privilege of playing Major league Baseball.  I hope they all make it but will be happy to get two or three good player out of this draft.

Very interested in seeing the bonus $ the top 2 picks require to sign.

 

We either had to save a bunch of money for them, or we're going to make a splash today.  Either way, I love the approach and draft so far.

Yeah, we're kind of in the dark here since we don't know if the Twins needed to save all the money for the top of their draft, or if they saved money for today. I'd imagine we'll know after the next pick.

Agree the draft ultimately comes down to the first couple of picks, and with that in mind, I doubt anyone selected on day 2...or the impending day 3....has been or will be selected for much of an over-sign.

But let's not forget day 2 the past 4 years, (can't really count 2020 draft), has brought in Sands, Winder, Gipson-Long, Hebdrick, Holland, Encarnacion-Strand, just to name a few.

Day 3 has brought in Ober, Helman, Mooney, Julien, Isola, and Festa. Again, just to name a few. Hard to believe that Isola, probably the top catching prospect at the moment,  was selected in a round that doesn't even exist any longer.

So even day 3 can be very important. It's not like the Twins are just drawing names out of a hat to just take their turn and move on.

I think you'll see college seniors, smaller school kids with athletic talent that just didn't attend a major conference for whatever reason, and very likely a couple guys who's last year was hurt or wiped out due to injury.

Well there are still plenty of 'ranked' prep players but most of them wouldn't take any reasonable bonus at this point; college is their landing spot with the hope of getting the big bucks in a couple of years. Most will probably still get drafted just in case they change their minds, and some even may sign, but that seems to be knowledge that's kept between the teams and the players themselves.

I just hope that the Twins get their guy.

I think we take a prep player in 11. We saved money on day 2, two sign our top two of one of them doesn't sign then while we lose that bonus money we can take our day 2 savings and use it for prep player. 

If I were the Twins, I would pick the good players and not pick the bad players.

And we all can be happy as they finally picked a catcher.  Another player with a good eye at the plate and good power.  Looks like a smaller school though.  Still I like the hitters they have been selecting.  They all seem to have a good eye to start with so that should help them early on.  Just not sure how well those small school players translate though.

Not only a catcher but he sounds pretty good.  Looks like a good hit tool, decent power.  Best Player in the A10.  

Senior sign, so it seems they are still in the mode of taking guys they definitely expect to sign.

I do think it's pretty likely that at some point they will take someone who will likely demand above slot, maybe a couple hundred thousand dollars.  Jaylen Nowlin was sort of that guy last year in the 19th round out of Junior College.

I think the money saved yesterday was pretty much just to sign their top two picks, but it makes sense to take a shot at one or two slightly tougher signs on day 3 in case they do end up with a little extra money saved up.

Pretty good numbers for Nate Baez.  12 picks and every single one an up the middle defender or pitcher.

The Twins doubling down on catchers.  When are they gonna pick some toolsy outfielders?  Baez looks like a good pick here as well.  Has some power but might need some work on the eye at the plate.  Still a very nice pick at 12 if you ask me.  Keep'em coming Draft team.

I'm glad to see they got catchers.  Otherwise there would be a lot of passed balls at Ft Myers this season.

I'm just glad that we're not going to have to wait a month to find out which picks they sign anymore. 

Culpepper - currently SP FB 90-92,  high spin rate on pitches nice sweeping curveball   6'3"  good body type to add some velocity.  Most likely a RP down the road.
