Article: Official Trade Deadline Day Thread

A top 100 guy will be fine with me.

Top 100 guys don't really do anything for me. The majority of them don't pan out anyway and I have zero faith in this organization's ability to develop anyone.

Edit: By top 100 I clearly do not mean top 25 but fringe top 100 guys don't excite me.

yeah, no real complaints about Abad for light. If that's the going rate for relievers, I'm fine with it. Now let's get Kintzler out the door so we have an open spot for Chargois.

10+K/9 is pretty nice.  Walk rate is too high at over 4.  Not a standout prospect, but 5 years of control and potential to be a back of the pen option is nice.  Can never have enough of those.

Then it sounds like this trade deadline isn't going to excite you at all. They're not in the market for established MLB players...

The offense really isn't that far away.  (And I think they'd be closer if they had better coaching).

Yeah, I mean they are 14th in BaseRuns scored per game. Not amazing or anything, but all things considered it's not bad.

Of course, 28th in BaseRuns allowed per game . . .

If Santana is on the move and it is to the Jays I would be asking for Reid-Foley, Greene, AND Pentecost. Or say no deal

Funny... I had tabbed Reid-Foley and Pentecost and was trying to figure out my 3rd piece.

Was thinking Perdomo

It depends on if you're asking how many players are traded or actual trades occur. I think there is a good chance Suzuki and either Kinzler or Abad are packaged in the same deal.

That's my hope as well. If the Twins' minor league system is as strong as we've been hearing, one B+ prospect is better than two B- 's.

It would bring us over 2 quality pitching prospects and Pentecost, who I believe was a top 15 draft pick, at a position of EXTREME need

Unfortunately, I don't think the Twins have much in terms of capital to get something more than bottom end of top 100.  Dozier would be the only exception in my mind.  I'm just glad that Antony does appear to be moving pieces.  Not sure I'm thrilled about Santana (depending on the return)...

I like the Abad trade. Getting Pat Light is a nice return. He's got a 10.5 K/9 in AAA with a 2.32 ERA. If the Twins can figure out how to get his pitches under control, then he could be a very good major league reliever.

Hopefully Chargois will be going up and somebody like Duffey or Boshers will be going down. It's time to give J. T. a fair shake.

Also, if Santana gets traded, it sounds like it'll be the Blue Jays. I wouldn't trade him unless I got a very good offer, so I'm interested to see what might happen.

I guess Molitor said yesterday that Duffey is going to the bullpen.

I hope it is Danny.  I don't want to watch Rochester 2.0 play.  Need MLB ready pitchers.  Tommy Millone in two years at Rochester has an ERA 1.50 in 12 starts with a WHIP under 1.  We don't have any of those stats from pitchers at Rochester with maybe Berrios, but he is not going to win 15+ games for a couple of years. They need to keep at one quality starter.  Twins can compete next year.  I also hope i am wrong about Berrios.  Better defense and less strikeouts and Twins are close.  But starting pitching has been a disaster.

I'd be even more happy with that than Ervin actually.....

Agreed, I'm just not sure that the return featuring a bucket of already chewed Double Bubble and a bag of baseballs with the covers knocked off of them is the HUGE deal that we have in mind.

Duffey is headed to the pen, so unless Boshers is sent down or Kintzler is traded, Chargois is still in AAA :(

If they are currently a consensus top 100, it generally means something is going right for them.  You pretty much have to be playing well, with a bonus for top picks/signings who don't have much experience yet.  It's no sure thing, of course, but it's way better than a project (or even a bunch of them) like Pat Light.

Nick Gordon was perhaps a "fringe" top 100 guy after 2014, Tyler Jay after 2015... Alex Meyer after 2011 (his draft year), etc.

Agreed on your skepticism about this org's ability to develop that talent, but I don't want us to stop acquiring talent either.  Hopefully those issues get addressed this winter too.

Plan can change especially pending the returns they get and the pieces they move at the deadline. I wouldn't be surprised if they back off of the Duffey to the pen bit in favor of Chargois.
