  1. Great article that I agree with in its entirety. As I read, kept thinking that every starting position player on the Twins is amongst the top half at his position in MLB. The more I thought about that, may even top third...Top 10. Here's to a summer, albeit short, of both Buxton and Kepler becoming top three. As I have often said, we could be watching a future Hall of Famer in Kepler.
  2. I am most excited about being able to sit down after dinner and watch a ballgame. Yup, want them to win the World Series. But if they go 20-40 I will still be happy, just having baseball back so I don't have to watch reruns for a second time of programs I didn't care for when the program was first played.
  3. Great read, Seth. Expect like others, I would like to see Garver start about 42 games with a little heavier use early and more rest towards the end when the championship is locked up. On a side note, saw that Dobnak pitched four great innings in the scrimmage last night. Have a feeling he is going to pitch himself into one of the five starting spots in their opening day rotation. Gotta love the depth the FO developed over the winter.
  4. It is so much fun watching Buxton stretch a normal single to one of his many doubles. That burst is the most exciting thing he does for me. I really believe he can set records for the most doubles in a season. Does anyone know what that would be? If he continues to improve and can stay on the field, Byron could someday be an MVP.
  5. Trevor May is one of two Twins I want to see the Twins extend before the end of the season. I want him remaining in the Twins bullpen in 2021, 2022 and beyond. The other Twin is Jake Odorizzi. Also want to see them bring back both Cruz and Hill, assuming they have good years and don't retire. But those both should be one year contracts that can be worked out after the Series.
  6. Great read, Parker. Now I just want to see him on the mound again, soon!
  7. Thanks for the update, Seth. Interesting mix of veteran AAAA guys and young prospects. Surprised that a couple of the older pitchers aren't at Target Field as I have seen talk they could make the opening day 30 man roster...guys like Chacin, Thielbar and Coulombe. If this group of 23 is at St. Paul, they have only 35 at Target Field. Means almost all of them will open in Chicago in two weeks. I know Pineda has to sit out the first 36 games. Is he with the group at Target Field? Or is he not here yet?
  8. Granted, Kepler hasn't played much first base in the majors. But I believe he played a fair amount in the minors, whereas, I suspect that Garver played very little. With that said, I don't want to see possibly the best right fielder in the game playing first base.
  9. I like Kirilloff this year, next year and beyond when Sano has moved to DH. Lets all remember when talking about his "less impressive" 2019 stats that he played much of the year with a wrist injury. When healthy, he will become one of the Twins better hitters...hopefully, for a long, long time.
  10. Thanks, Seth, and Happy July 4th. Really odd reading about the start of ST-2 this weekend. Hopefully, all will go well and we will have some real baseball in a few weeks.
  11. I am going to assume that Dobnak wins one of the starting spots out of spring training. Add in Hill, who now should be ready from opening day, and Berrios, Odorizzi, Maeda and Bailey gives the Twins six starters, not including Chacin, Thorpe, Smeltzer and Pineda, when he is eligible. Is it possible that the Twins could trade one of them, say Bailey, to a contender who is short one solid starter? Perhaps someone in the National League who wouldn't be in direct competition with the Twins. I know there are some limitations on who can be traded this year, but maybe they could pick up a nice prospect who is close.
  12. Not disagreeing, Cody, that Javier is one of the Twins minor leaguers who will be hurt by not having this season. I question, however, whether he is or should still be considered a top prospect. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Javier left unprotected in last year's Rule 5 draft? I understand there are restraints related to selecting anyone in the Rule 5. However, no one selecting Javier would indicate that the other 29 teams no longer consider him a top prospect.
  13. I will go on record and make a prediction about Kirilloff. He will be added to the active roster by mid-season at the latest. When added, he will be playing in most games and by the end of the season will, 1) be playing on a regular basis; and 2) hitting very well. As for what his role will be, not a clue. He could be playing a lot of first base if Sano were to get injured or share 1B/DH with Sano should Cruz need some time off. He also could become a regular corner outfielder should Rosario or Kepler go on the IL or be in right should Kepler be needed in center if Buxton gets hurt again. In any case, I see him playing a lot and doing very well, kind of like the pre-injury Jason Kubel.
  14. It sure is going to be an interesting summer. Gotta believe that there will be instructional camps for most of the other minor league players at some point, perhaps later this fall. Bring in groups of 30-40 for a month, then the next group the following month, etc. Expect you are right, Seth, that there will be a few more top prospects brought in once players from this group either go onto the IL, COVID list, or are released. Will be both surprised and disappointed if Balazovic isn't one of them.
  15. I am of the opinion that Kirilloff will see some time with the Twins this year as he just might be the eighth or ninth best hitter in the organization. Could happen under several scenarios, won't speculate which will occur. To even be considered, Romero is going to have to find a way to get into the country. Does anyone have any information why his VISA problem is still keeping him out?
  16. The Ft. Myers facility was shut down, wasn't it? Will it re-open, Seth? So players like Balazovic, Rortvedt and others can continue to get some work in this summer? Are you aware of the Twins scheduling formal instructional camps later this summer and fall? Like the FIL they used to run every October/November? Or are they winging it and will think about that after they get the season started?
  17. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I understand the Twins notify the League of their roster and the League releases it. After what all fans have been thru the past three months, wouldn't you expect the league to tax your patience a bit more?
  18. Saw in this morning's Strib that the Twins have signed an 18-year old Canadian shortstop from Alberta. Was born in the same Dominican town Sano is from. Said he was signed for $20,000.
  19. Have a couple questions. Will Pineda be included in the 60 man list? Or because of his suspension will he be added when he is available? Will teams have the opportunity to add players to the 60-man list if/when someone goes on the long-term IL and out for the season, ie, Tommy John or other major injuries?
  20. Thanks, Seth. Had probably seen that in some comment section. Obviously, it wasn't accurate and the Twins are fortunate they got him. Sure seems like a good fit for this current squad and the organization was somewhat weak at the corner infield spots.
  21. Has there been any information regarding Smeltzer? Considering his medical history, he could be one who would opt out of the season. Any word on the status of Romero's VISA? Also, is there any chance Sano will be restricted from leaving the D.R?
  22. Thanks for this information about Sabato, Seth. When drafted I had read that the Twins took him earlier than most had him slotted for. Based on that, I expected he would be signed well under slot. So I was surprised when the rumors surfaced that they would need to go over slot. Are you aware of those early stories that the Twins took him earlier than most expected? When reading what you and others have written the past few days, he sure looks like another good pick by the Twins. You mentioned several sluggers drafted early by the Twins above. You didn't include Larnach. Do you not consider him a slugger like Rooker, et. al?
  23. Are you of the opinion, Seth, that Sharpe would not have been available to the Twins when they drafted in the sixth round? If likely, the Twins draft is looking much better. Gotta like the three very nice pitching prospects added to the four draft picks. Heck, Seth, the more I think about it I like this kid more than any player from the draft other than the 17-year old pitcher from Laredo. And I want to apologize to Mr. Sharpe for calling him and others a kid, but when you get to my age almost everybody is a kid. I still call my daughter a kid and she will be 57 on Friday.
  24. Like Doc, I was in the camp that Stankiewicz was their top signing. After reading this, gotta put Sharpe into that top spot. Sounds like a sharp young man and one hell of a prospect. Looks like Sharpe was close to being a top 5 round pick. Although the Twins don't have a lot of FA signings, looks like they got a couple really good ones. Considering how much money is thrown at some of the high draft picks, to bad someone like this young man couldn't have gotten more than $20k...assuming he got that. Hopefully, eight or ten years from now he cashes in with a big contract from the Twins. Add me to the list of those who really appreciate this piece, Seth.
