    Very interesting, Cooper. I always like to read good stuff about Dobnak because, well, most of what we have heard the past couple years has been good, very good. I don't understand how WAR is calculated. But when I compare all the traditional stats between Dobnak and Sheffield there is no comparison. Yes, Sheffield has more strike outs but Dobber destroys him in the ERA, Walk and WHIP categories. Yet, their WAR is within a tenth of a point of each other. That raises a big question in my mind of the value of WAR, especially when considering the the role of a pitcher is to keep runners off base (WHIP) and from scoring (ERA).

    Thanks, Nick. Always a big fan of Hendriks. Agree there was no way the Twins could have hung on to him considering the rules for options, etc. Would be nice to have Anderson in their current pen.

    Looks like all of the really bad strikes were when the Twins were at bat. And the three on Kepler weren't even close. That was the inning the Twins just might have made hay and the damn ump took it away from us. Will agree however, that using Rogers in back-to-back games should be a no-no. Especially after pitching 20+ pitches the first night. Also, correct me if I am not remembering right, but wasn't one of the guys on base for the last two 2-run homers struck out before getting on base...by a missed strike by the ump.

    Last night was another example of why Eddie Rosario is so very important to this team. Yes, he came up again with another chance with lots of runners on base. But damn, he got it done again in big style. He really needs to remain part of this team until their opportunity to win is over. And speaking of his so-called misplay, my old eyes told me it would have been a hell of a play to get that one. But I got a feeling Eddie thought he should have had it and that may have been in the back of his mind when he stepped into the box with ducks on the pond.

    Expect Clippard to go 2 innings with Smeltzer following for the next 3. Next expect to see some combination of the guys who didn't pitch last night beginning with Stashak. Don't have a clue if we will see Thorpe tonight or again this summer. Huge fan of his, but this messed up summer hasn't been his best.

    Hill concerns me the most as he has the potential to make a real difference come the playoffs...assuming they exist and we make them. We are what, three weeks away from Pineda being eligible to return. Does anyone know what he is doing right now? I assume he is at St. Paul and throwing, but have no idea if that is in fact true.

    Also wondering how things have changed since the Saints are back in town. Is there a third locker room that the Twins can use or do they have to pack up every day and take their stuff with them? Will second the wish for minor league ball to return ASAP. Unfortunately, that ain't gonna happen until April 2021 at the earliest.

    As you mentioned, Cody, we will know in a few more years. Although this trade could pay dividends for the Twins for another six to ten years, so may be a bit longer. So far, I am satisfied with the trade and happy with the general philosophy of the new FO.

    Question, is it possible Rogers hasn't been getting enough work and isn't as sharp as he could be? Curious if anyone who knows more about pitching has an opinion.

    The only prospects I see having a chance of playing this year are those who would be Rule 5 eligible come November. If they aren't, they aren't going to be activated this year. Considering Balazovic isn't with the group in St. Paul, it is highly unlikely we will see him.

    Always look forward to watching games Dobnak is starting. Continue to believe he will be a major part of the Twins staff this year and expect another very solid start tonight.

    What a great interview, Ted. Thanks. Sounds like a sharp young woman with a very interesting profession. Another example of the type of organization the Twins are. Makes one proud to be a fan.

    The Twins have another older reliever who throws a ton of sliders. While reading this, was wondering if perhaps he has been working with Sergio?

    Have always believed that Thorpe could become a very good starting pitcher. What I have seen from his few stints this year has been too many deep counts. There have been lots of stories over the years where some player got an opportunity and ran with it. Maybe tonight that will be Lewis. I know I will be rooting for him to pitch into the fifth inning of shutout baseball.

    Did they have an open spot on the 40-man, Seth? Or was someone taken off the 40?

    Gotta love this bullpen, Seth. Looking at the 10 you listed above, five were drafted and developed by the Twins. The other five include one free agent and four acquired via trades with most in the minors when they arrived. Great job by the new guys in the FO.

    Didn't see much of the game out here in Colorado as the tv went to a fixed message every time the Twins came to bat....weird. Saw the last couple innings and will only say that Bieber looks like he may be as good as anyone in the game. Did see the problems with Sano and will give the big man a break as it is unfortunate that the year he makes the move to first baseball didn't have much of a spring training. Expect he will be fine come opening day 2021 and believe it is unreasonable for any of us to complain before then. Was glad to see Littell back on the hill. Thought he pitched well and circumstances beyond his control got him into the jam. Also was on edge with Thorpe who seems to go too deep into counts way more than I would like. But his results were ok, which is most important. Time for the Dobber to step up and give us five shutout innings today. Other than Ramirez and Lindor, the Cleveland lineup isn't all that tough...well maybe add Santana to that pair.

    You close by asking if Eddie will end up being "the same ole Eddie?" Well, if that is the downside I'll take it and be damn happy. If he closes out the 2020 season with the prorated equivalent of last year's 100+ RBI and 30+ home runs, I will be more than happy. More important, I suspect Rocco and the Twins FO will also be more than happy. If he gets a bit more disciplined, fantastic. If he doesn't and continues to be the Eddie I love, also fantastic. Let's let Eddie be Eddie!

    A week ago I was a bit concerned that the St. Louis series with Bailey and Hill starting could be a real challenge. Sure was, for the Cards! And kudos to the FO for their plan this winter. While all the big names chose elsewhere, they quietly went out and got three veterans to give this rotation unbelievable depth. Yes, its only five games and once thru the rotation, but the three guys they brought in had the three best games and we are 4-1. Is it possible Berrios is going to prove to be the weakest link? Can't say too much about that bullpen. After so many years of promise combined with struggles, can not imagine how pleased Mr. Duffey must be with himself.

    Just as the Twins haven't gone all in to sign a top notch free agent starter, I am not certain they are going to try to get one in a trade. Whether its dollars or assets, the Twins may be adverse to putting too much into one top line pitcher. The reason I think this could be true is the risk associated with all those top arms. Rather see them building a pitching staff like last winter, assemble a group of good starters so they have depth to overcome injuries to any one or two starters. Then work the system to develop several starters who have the potential to be above average.

    All three will be key contributors to whatever success the Twins have in 2020. What I am interested in is whether any or all will return in 2021 when we hopefully have a regular baseball season. With the talent coming up from the minors, which may be delayed due to inactivity this year, I see Gonzalez as the least likely to return in part due to his higher cost. I see and hope the Twins resign Adrianza to a reasonable one or two year contract to return as their main infield utility man. Not certain what the future holds for Cave. His biggest value to the team may be the return he would bring in a trade. As stated above, yes, he is better than many current starters on other teams including some who consider themselves contenders. Will Cave continue to play like he started this year and continue to get opportunities? If so, the return could be very high. But the Twins may also see his value to them for this short season and wait to pull the string on a trade until the off season.
